Roma are currently ahead of Inter in the race to sign Atalanta midfielder Bryan Cristante, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Cristante enjoyed a spectacular 2017-18 season in Bergamo that saw him score 12 goals and produce 4 assists in all competitions, and has now had his initial loan deal turned into a permanent signing for €5 million.

Atalanta are unlikely to keep hold of the 23 year-old, however, as Cristante has plenty of suitors in Italy and would guarantee the club a healthy sum of money that they could then reinvest in the transfer market.

“The Percassi family’s asking price for Cristante is superior to €25 million,” the Milanese publication writes, “with Roma currently in pole position.

“Inter and Juventus are also interested, fully aware that Roma are following the player because they want to protect themselves in case either Lorenzo Pellegrini or Radja Nainggolan really were to leave this summer.”

Cristante currently has three caps for the Italian national team and featured as a second-half substitute in the Azzurri’s 2-1 win over Saudi Arabia on Monday.

Inter are hoping to secure the signing of Sassuolo forward Matteo Politano in relatively short order, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Politano has been strongly linked with a move to the Nerazzurri as they look to reinforce their attack after securing qualification for next year’s UEFA Champions League, and Monday’s Lega Serie A assembly saw a deal move closer as the two clubs met in Milan.

“It certainly wasn’t a scheduled meeting,” the Milanese publication wrote on Tuesday, “but during the assembly Ausilio had the chance to catch up with representatives from Sassuolo.

“Inter could include players such as [Andrea] Pinamonti and [Federico] Dimarco, whom they will soon buy back from Sion, in the deal for Politano, who would be happy to sign for the Nerazzurri.

“Other players they could offer to Sassuolo are [Zinho] Vanheusden, who has finished his loan spell with Standard Liege after extending his contract until 2022, [Samuele] Longo and goalkeeper [Francesco] Bardi.

“Inter are hoping they can secure the winger without having talks drag on too much.”

Marcelo Brozovic’s agent has praised his client’s ‘winning mentality’ following Inter’s qualification for the Champions League and says the Croatian midfielder ‘feels at home’ in Milan.

Brozovic was reborn under Luciano Spalletti during the final two months of the 2017-18 season and became a key figure as they chased a return to Europe’s top club competition, reinventing himself as a deep-lying play-maker after beginning the campaign as an attacking midfielder.

Speaking to FcInterNews on Tuesday, the player’s agent Miroslav Bicanic suggested that the 25 year-old’s drastic upturn in form could be down to recent changes that have taken place in his personal life, but also insisted that Brozovic has always given his all when playing for the Nerazzurri.

“Getting married and having a child has made him a more responsible person,” he said. “He has understood the importance of becoming a father. He draws real strength from his wife and his daughter.

“The Inter fans used to boo him. Now he’s an idol for them. He’s always played with his heart at Inter, but only in this season have all the pieces of the puzzle come together.”

Brozovic came very close to joining Sevilla on the final day of the January transfer window, but Inter’s inability to secure a replacement ensured that he ended up staying in Milan.

“Thankfully the club couldn’t find a replacement and he has been able to play consistently since then,” Bicanic said.

“He has a winning mentality. I’m glad he’s kept his promise [of taking Inter into the Champions League].”

Brozovic has three years left on his current deal at Inter but the €50 million release clause written into his contract means that his future remains uncertain. Bicanic however believes the player is happy in Italy.

“Marcelo likes being an important player at Inter, and now they’ll play in the Champions League. He’s bought an apartment in Milan and considers the city to be his home.

“It’s true that there’s a release clause in his contract, and so if any clubs wanted pay it then he could leave. We would be willing to sign a new deal though, even if no one at the club has spoken to us about this.”

L’Inter ha firmato un accordo da 10,5 milioni di euro nel 2018 con le società cinesi FullShare (attiva nei settori dei servizi per il turismo e per l’educazione dell’infanzia) e Donkey Mother (agenzia di viaggio online), mentre l’accordo con iMedia, agenzia cinese di marketing sportivo, per la stagione attuale vale 27,2 milioni di euro. Pavel Nedved has refused to rule out the possibility that Gonzalo Higuain could leave Juventus this summer, adding that players ‘must be happy’ to play for the Bianconeri.

Higuain has scored 55 goals in 105 appearances since signing from Napoli in 2016, helping the club to two Serie A and two Coppa Italia titles, but he only found the net once in his final 10 games of the 2017-18 season and was left on the bench by Massimiliano Allegri for the Coppa Italia final against Milan on 9 May.

The striker is no longer thought to be untouchable in Turin and has been linked with a move away from Juventus this summer, with some sources even talking of a sensational swap deal involving Inter forward Mauro Icardi.

Speaking to Sky Sport on Monday, Juventus vice-chairman Nedved offered a noncommittal response when asked about Higuain’s future.

“We’re not worried at the thought of Higuain leaving,” he said. “Let’s see what happens after the World Cup.

“Clubs need to satisfy their players, they shouldn’t keep them against their will. Players should be happy to play for Juventus. We’ll need to take a decision [on Higuain’s future] together.”
