Mahrez & Thauvin Amongst Potential Inter Targets On Right Wing

Inter have identified a new right winger as their priority ahead of this summer’s transfer window, according to Tuttosport.

The Nerazzuri are keen to make an important signing in central midfield while they could also be required to find replacements for both Joao Cancelo and Rafinha, were they unable to keep hold of them, but they are likely to dedicate the biggest portion of their budget to a wide man.

Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez and Marseille’s Florian Thauvin are among the names the club are considering, according to the Turin-based publication, but there are several other ideas beyond that.

“Initially Inter will try to go big and their dream targets would be Mahrez (although Manchester City would be willing to offer €70 million for him) and Thauvin (who could even be worth more than the Algerian), who isn’t happy about Marseille’s failure to qualify for the Champions League.

“One player that could work both from a technical and an economical point of view is Marlos, fresh from a great 2017-18 season in which he scored 22 goals for Shakhtar Donetsk.

“Luciano Spalletti wants players who are ready and he would fit that profile, as would Tottenham’s Erik Lamela.”

Tuttosport write that Inter could potentially sign two right wingers, though, with Sassuolo’s Matteo Politano and Bologna’s Simone Verdi both in the running. Argentinos Juniors forward Nicolas Gonzalez is also being monitored.

Inter Still Hopeful For Cancelo Despite Juventus & United Interest

Inter have not given up on signing Joao Cancelo permanently despite interest from Juventus and Manchester United, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Nerazzurri cannot guarantee Valencia the €35 million they would need to pay in order to redeem the full-back after his season-long loan, which leaves the door open for other clubs to make offers.

“Cancelo is a possible coup for the Bianconeri”, the Milan-based paper write, “someone they could pounce for considering that Inter won’t be able to sign him before the end of May.

In spite of this, Inter are said to be hopeful they will get a second chance to sign the 23 year-old later in the summer.

“Piero Ausilio believes another opportunity could present itself later on in the mercato, and should that be the case he will be ready for it.

“Inter would like to return to the scene once Valencia have lowered their asking price and once they will have more room for manoeuvre, thanks to the Champions League revenue they will receive in July (around €40 million).

“The will of the player, who enjoyed working with Spalletti, could be used to the Nerazzurri’s advantage.”

Inter Will Not Sacrifice Key Players Despite Financial Fair Play Requirements

Inter will not sacrifice any of their key players in order to meet their Financial Fair Play requirements with UEFA, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The Nerazzurri secured qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League on Sunday but are unable to move freely in the transfer market to reinforce their squad, as the agreement they signed with European football’s governing body in 2015 requires them to meet various financial targets for the current season.

Before 30 June they are obliged to raise approximately €40 million in capital gains from player sales, and the easiest route to take would be to sacrifice one of their key players in exchange for a large transfer fee.

However the Rome-based publication reports that neither the club nor Luciano Spalletti wish to do that, as they believe they can recoup the €40 million by selling fringe players and youngsters from the Primavera.

“While protecting those players with release clauses is impossible (Icardi’s is worth €110 million, whereas Brozovic’s is €50 million),” they write, “they are determined not to sacrifice those who do not have clauses in their contracts (Skriniar and Perisic).”

Both players are expected to have offers this summer but neither will leave as Inter are counting on them for the following season.

Corriere dello Sport also adds that Wanda Nara and Piero Ausilio do not currently have any meetings scheduled to discuss Mauro Icardi’s contract extension, which the player’s agent would like to secure sooner rather than later.

Italian Football Did Not Suit Kondogbia According To Entourage

Geoffrey Kondogbia’s entourage believe Italian football’s peculiar style of play was to blame for the Frenchman’s unsuccessful time at Inter.

Kondogbia secured a permanent move to Valencia on Thursday after the Spanish club exercised their €25 million buy-out option for the midfielder, who spent the 2017-18 season on loan from the Nerazzurri.

Inter signed Kondogbia from AS Monaco in a deal worth approximately €40m back in 2015, but despite the player making 56 appearances in two seasons they failed to see a return on their investment.

Daniel Perez, a member of Kondogbia’s entourage, told VCF Radio on Friday that the Frenchman’s struggles at San Siro were down to him not being suited to Italian football.

“La Liga suits him perfectly, whereas in Italy he encountered a lot of problems due to the style of play,” he said.

“A player like him, who has strength and technique and loves dribbling with the ball at his feet, was very limited there.

“This year we’ve seen the best of Kondogbia, and he can still give much more because he has a big potential.”

Perez also praised Valencia for the way they had treated Kondogbia upon his return to La Liga and added that signing him for €25 million is an excellent deal for them.

“We’re very happy. From the moment Valencia first showed an interest in him we had no doubts about coming here. Geoffrey pushed hard to come here and he wanted to stay.

“We have to applaud the club for the way they’ve handled him; the empathy between Kondogbia, Marcelino and [sporting director] Mateu Alemany has been the key.

“We all pulled in the same direction and we reached an agreement that was positive for everyone, albeit not without difficulty. Italian clubs are tough to negotiate with and Inter in particular are very tough. I think Valencia have got a great deal.”

Bellinazzo: “No Settlement Milan? Inter 2015 più grave! UEFA stavolta…”

Marco Bellinazzo
