Italy’s Sporting Minister Spadafora: “I Hope The Serie A Resumes But The Final Decision Rests With The Government”

Italian government minister for sport and youth policies Vincenzo Spadafora has dismissed claims that he is against the idea of the 2019/20 Serie A season resuming and insisted that he wants the season to resume.

“The majority of Italians do not welcome the resumption of the championship. Football is important to this country and I know it well unlike those who want to pass on a different message,” he explained in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, which appeared in today’s print edition of the Milan based newspaper.

“I oppose the restart? It would be surreal for a sports minister to demonise football. I hope the season resumes but the government will decide.”

Spadafora proceeded to discuss training and was asked when the season, which has been on hold for just a few days shy of two months, could possibly start up again.

“Team training will resume from May 18 and as for when the season can start again we will rely on scientific elements which are not available today.

Spadafora, who has been in his current position since 2018, then went on to reveal that the Italian government are to invest a significant sum of money into the sporting sector to help out.

“There will be equal dignity with other sports and grassroots sports. There will soon be a definitive clarification on the protocol and in the event of another stop, my effort will be twofold to limit the economic damage to clubs and supporting the whole world of sport. Between ordinary and extraordinary resources, we will invest about €1 billion into sport as a whole.”

He was then asked about the ongoing issue in relation to promotions and relegation’s in football but insisted that it is not up to him what happens.

“That is a concern of FIGC and CONI. I hope to resume and not have to face problems. I want to end the season but for now we are unable to say when we can start again.”

He concluded the interview by adding: “On May 4 individual training resumed, from May 18 teams can train as a collective in compliance with the protocol and by the end of May it will be possible to say whether or not Serie A will resume.”

Inter Cool Interest In Udinese’s Argentinian Duo Rodrigo De Paul & Juan Musso

Inter have cooled their interest in signing Udinese duo Rodrigo de Paul and Juan Musso according to a report in today’s print edition of Tuttosport.

Inter have been linked with a move for de Paul several times recently and in the past whilst reports have stated that Inter have identified Musso as a goalkeeper who could come in and initially serve as back up to Samir Handanovic before eventually taking over from him.

The report explains that Inter have also cooled their interest in signing Sporting’s Marcos Acuna due to favouring moves for the likes of Marcos Alonso, Emerson and Filip Kostic instead.

It goes on to add that a 25-year streak could well be broken this Summer at Inter if Lautaro Martinez is to depart. Since Javier Zanetti and Sebastian Rambert joined Inter back in 1995, Inter have always had at least one Argentine player in the first team squad.

Inter & AC Milan Set For More New Stadium Talks With Milan City Council Today

Officials from both Inter and AC Milan are set to meet with the Milan city council today to hold further talks over the new stadium project according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

Talks between the parties are now at an advanced stage and one of the main points on the agenda of today’s meeting concerns what will be built in addition to the state of the art stadium itself.

When the clubs unveiled their plans at the end of last year, they made it clear that they would like to build hotels, offices, shops and restaurants. Not only would this help them re-coup some of their joint investment, which is expected to be in the region of €1 billion but it would also breathe new life into that area of the city.

However, the amount of additional buildings which the two clubs wanted is too much for the Milan city council.

Christian Eriksen: “Some Tottenham Fans Were Upset But Joining Inter Was The Right Thing To Do”

In an interview with Danish media outlet Jyllands-Posten, Inter midfielder Christian Eriksen has shared his belief that he made the right decision to join Inter in the most recent January transfer window.

The former Ajax midfielder swapped Tottenham Hotspur for Inter in a circa €20 million deal and joined Inter on a four and a half year contract.

“It seemed the right thing to do. They were very eager to sign me, and for someone like me it means a lot that a club show how much they want me. They would have done anything to sign me,” the 28-year-old began the interview.

Eriksen proceeded to reflect on Tottenham fans’ reaction to his transfer to Inter and revealed he wished he could have bid farewell in a different manner than he did.

“Some Tottenham fans got angry because in an interview with the BBC I said there was a greater chance of winning something here, but the high number of strong English teams only makes it more difficult to win in England whilst at Inter there is more of a possibility.

“There will always be people at Tottenham who will be mad at me, but most of the fans have been positive. I really enjoyed playing there: I met many good people, I have many good memories. I wanted to say goodbye in a different way, but that’s not the way it is in football.”

He then went on to discuss how he feels he has adapted to life in Italy just over four months on from his move to Milan.

“In Italy I feel like I have been very well received both by the club and by my team mates and fans. Of course, everything is different. I had to join an already formed group, learn a new language and a new style of play.”

Since his arrival at Inter, he has went on to make eight appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored a single goal and provided a single assist too for his new teammates.

Barcelona Fear Bidding War For Inter’s €111M Rated Striker Lautaro Martinez As Real Madrid, PSG & Man Utd Monitor Situation

Barcelona are fearful that interest from elsewhere in Inter striker Lautaro Martinez could drive his price up according to a report from ESPN.

The Blaugrana club have identified the 22-year-old striker as one of their top transfer targets ahead of the upcoming Summer transfer window but they are not the only club to have shown an interest in signing the highly rated forward, who has a €111 million release clause in his current contract.

Manchester United, Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain could all seemingly make moves for him in the coming months and Barcelona want to avoid being caught up in a bidding war as they fear other clubs could offer better packages for Lautaro.

Barcelona have held negotiations with Inter on a players plus cash basis and the report goes on to explain that Inter have shown an interest in obtaining Arturo Vidal and Nelson Semedo as part of a deal for Lautaro.
