Italian Players Association To Examine Medical Protocol Today Ahead Of Possible Resumption Of Season

The Italian players association (AIC) will today examine the medical protocol developed by the Federal Scientific Scientific Commission according to a report in today’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport.

Professor Walter Della Frera will be present at a specially convened AIC board of directors meeting to discuss the protocol in great detail.

The report however warns that meeting all of the conditions will be far from easy and certainly challenging, especially the one relating to the prospect of players having to spend two to three weeks locked down in club training centres away from their families.

Teams may be allowed to make a return to training starting on May 4 with a view to then resuming the season at the end of the month or start of the following month but given the great uncertainty at the moment, it remains to be seen if this will all be able to take place.

Italian Health Minister Speranza: “Football Is The Last Of Our Problem”

Italian minister for health Roberto Speranza has admitted that solving when football can return is the least of his worries at the moment given the severity of the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic.

Italy has been one of the worst impacted nations worldwide by the virus with the death toll being significantly added to each day.

Football and all sports in the country have been on hold for little over a month now due to the crisis situation and it remains to be seen if the seasons will be able to resume again.

Serie A are looking to allow their teams to return to training from the beginning of next month with a view to then resuming the season at the end of the month, failing that, the start of the following month.

“I am a big football fan but with more than 400 deaths a day, football is the last problem we can deal with,” Speranza, who has been the health minister since September 2019, explained in an interview with Italian radio station Radio Rai 1 earlier on today.

“People’s lives come first. The country’s priorities today are different. We will work so that at some point normal life can be resumed.”

American Credit Rating Agency Standard & Poor’s Reduce Inter’s Bond Rating Due To Coronavirus Pandemic

Financial services company Standard and Poor’s (S&P) have reduced Inter’s financial bond rating down to a B+ as highlighted by Italian news outlet Calcioefinanza.it.

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, S&P have revised Inter’s €300 million bond rating downwards and also assigned a negative CreditWatch rating to it. The bond could even be further revised downward given the current crisis situation.

As a result of the pandemic, Inter are missing out on a lot of revenue, especially when it comes to match day revenue from tickets and hospitality.

S&P state that they do not expect the loss of revenue to pose a threat to Inter’s ability to honour its main interests and payments however the loss of revenue will result in reduced liquidity.

They also warn that there is a risk that Inter could lose out on sponsorship revenue when it comes to agreements being renewed as sponsors may cut back on spending as a result of the pandemic.

Ivan Zamorano: “Everyone Remembers The 1+8 Shirt I Wore At Inter”

Legendary former Inter attacker Ivan Zamorano has recalled the battles he had with former AC Milan and Argentina national team defender Roberto Fabian Ayala during Milan derbies.

“We were two warriors, on the field we challenged each other hard but in the end we met to eat asado in the home of Javier Zanetti or Andres Guglielminpietro,” the Chilean remarked in an interview with Argentine broadcaster TNT Sports earlier on today.

Zamorano also touched upon how it felt to receive praise from current AC Milan and former Inter striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic prior to a recent Milan derby match.

“He made me very happy, Zlatan is not a guy who always talks about other players. He surprised me but at the same time he made me happy with his words. He is one of the greatest goalscorers in the world.”

He also reflected briefly on the famous shirt number he wore for part of his time with Inter, 1 + 8, which he adopted upon the arrival of Il Fenomeno Ronaldo, who Zamorano gave the number nine jersey to.

“At Inter I had the 1 + 8 shirt which represented an important stage in history, everyone remembers it.”

Zamorano joined Inter in the Summer of 1996 from Spanish powerhouses Real Madrid and would spend five years with the Nerazzurri before departing to join Mexican outfit Club America.

The now 53-year-old made a total of 150 appearances for Inter during his spell with the club, in which he tscored 41 goals.

Ex-Inter Midfielder Sulley Muntari: “I Still Have A Very Good Relationship With Mourinho”

In an interview with Italian news outlet derbyderbyderby.it, former Inter midfielder Sulley Muntari has reminisced about Inter’s history making treble winning side from the 2009/10 season.

The Ghanaian midfielder, who is currently without a club having left Spanish outfit Albacete, made a total of 97 appearances across all competitions for Inter during a four year spell with the club.

Muntari wasn’t far from being ever present in Jose Mourinho’s side in the year the treble was won with him making no less than 42 appearances across all competitions, with him appearing in all barring four games of Inter’s run to the Champions League final, which he made an 11 minute cameo in.

“We were a great team, built by two great people in Massimo Moratti and José Mourinho. We won everything. The relationship with Mourinho is still very good today,” he explained.

“We are always in touch. We speak to each other almost every day, we have a chat consisting of the treble winners. Almost every morning someone writes something. Apart from the four who always tease me, Orlandoni, Materazzi, Chivu and Sneijder, everyone else is a good guy [laughs].”

Muntari also spoke on Mario Balotelli who was just a teenager whilst he was with the club and how the striker, who is now at Brescia, had changed when the duo played alongside each other later on in their respective careers.

“He was just a child in that Inter team. Marco Materazzi and Dejan Stankovic loved him. When me and him played together at AC Milan, I didn’t feel that he had changed. He never changes but he had matured.”

David Suazo: “I’ve Always Been An Inter Fan, Even After I Left”

In an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, former Inter striker David Suazo has reminisced about his time with Inter and started by speaking about what he realised upon joining the Nerazzurri in 2007.

“I spent eight years at Cagliari and I got used to understanding Italian football, as well as learning the language and culture,” he remarked in the interview which took place earlier on today.

“When you arrive at Inter Milan, then, you know that the competition is much higher and you cannot afford to make as much mistakes as at Cagliari.

“There was a very important group of attackers at Inter at the time and I was lacking consistency in my performances.”

The former Honduran national team striker then reflected on the managers he worked under at the club, Roberto Mancini and Jose Mourinho.

“Both of them are winners, in their own way. They are managers who have won wherever they went. Mourinho could have played me more whilst Mancini got angry with me and would tell me ‘you must understand that you are no longer at Cagliari’.”

He then spoke on what it felt like to win the Serie A title in 2008.

“It is a something that I will carry with me forever. We won it on the last day of the season and it was a fantastic party. I put it on a par with winning promotion with Cagliari in 2004.”

Next he discussed which player he felt he learned most from during his time at Inter.

“I learned from them all, I can say that Zlatan Ibrahimovic impressed me very much, he is someone capable of deciding games alone. I met so many champions like Diego Milito and Luis Figo.”

He was then asked if he feels part of Inter’s treble winning team in the 2009/10 season despite only played in one game that season.

“Yes I do. I was part of it for six intense months and I always followed and supported the team. I have always been an Inter fan, even after I left the club.”

He was then asked about the competition he faced for a place up front that season which included Diego Milito, Samuel Eto’o and Goran Pandev.

“Only with a positive attitude can certain goals be achieved. That team was aware of being part of a new story, Mourinho was good at making us believe that it was possible. We were all ready to help each other and the final result is proof of that.”

In conclusion he revealed why he preferred a move to Inter in 2007 over a move to their city rivals AC Milan.

“Inter were the first to look for me and I said yes, then there was a night when I was destined to go to AC Milan. It was a somewhat bizarre situation, the president called me telling me about this opportunity, I didn’t sleep because I had chosen Inter anyway.”

Francesco Moriero: “I Think Atletico Madrid Coach Diego Simeone Dreams Of Coaching Inter One Day”

In an interview with Italian news outlet FCInterNews.it, which took place via Instagram, former Inter attacker Francesco Moriero spoke on a series of Inter related topics.

He began the interview by discussing Inter’s season so far which is the first under the management of former Italian national team manager Antonio Conte.

“Inter were having an excellent championship, then there was a moment of decline but Inter are trying to build something important but it takes time and in Italy it is not easy to win,” he remarked.

“Conte is one of the smartest managers who is building a certain type of mentality, we could have fought for the Scudetto but Inter are lacking a little.”

Next he spoke on whether he thinks former Inter teammate Diego Simeone, currently in charge of Atletico Madrid, could one day take the reigns of Inter.

“I think it’s his dream, he has remained tied to these colours. I think that he and Conte are very similar, they are perfectionists and very serious, like they were as players.”

Moriero, who spent three years with Inter between 1997 and 2000, then reflected on his first season with the club which ended with the club winning the UEFA Cup but a season that was nevertheless filled with controversy, especially in a match against Juventus.

“It was difficult to accept the result of that match, strange things happaned. Maybe Juventus would have won anyway but there was incredible mistake in the match [when a blatant penalty was not given to Inter for a foul on Ronaldo]. I felt we could have won the title or at least had the chance of fighting for it until the end. I wouldn’t just blame that game though there were others too.

“We as a team had fun, there were great players and great men and the stadium was always full. Winning the UEFA Cup brought immense joy as we beat a very strong Lazio side.

“We were convinced that we would win that match. We had Zamorano, Ronaldo, Zanetti and Bergomi.”

Next he was asked whether Inter can realistically fight to win the title should the 2019/20 season resume.

“Inter have to fight, Lazio are having a fantastic season, they are a team who are enjoying themselves, but Inter have matured a lot, they have to play for the title.”

He was then asked who he would like to see Inter sign in the upcoming Summer transfer window.

“I like Dries Mertens and Allan. I think they would do very well at Inter or at any team.”

He was then asked what he thinks Inter should do if a big offer is tabled for striker Lautaro Martinez.

“I would keep him, Inter is Inter and Inter must keep strong players. He is part of a great club that wants to win in Italy and Europe.”

He concluded the interview by reminiscing about former Inter president and owner Massimo Moratti.

“Moratti made important sacrifices, I remember him fondly, he was like a father to all of us. If he had not sacked Simoni perhaps he would have won more, in time even Moratti, who is an intelligent man, admitted he was wrong to sack him.”

Inter Legend Ruben Sosa: “Winning The UEFA Cup In 1994 Was Like Winning The Champions League To Me”

Legendary Inter attacker Ruben Sosa has reminisced about his time on the club’s books in an interview with Turin based newspaper Tuttosport, which appeared in today’s print edition.

“Inter was certainly the strongest team I played for. All three seasons I spent in Milan were extraordinary. What struck me most was seeing all those people at the Meazza. Playing in such a setting was extraordinary,” Sosa began the interview.

Sosa then went on to reflect on winning the UEFA Cup with Inter in 1994, a season where Inter very nearly saw themselves relegated to Serie B.

“We almost ended up in Serie B but in the end we won the UEFA Cup. For me, that cup is like a Champions League. Winning the UEFA Cup was the crowning glory of my Nerazzurri adventure. It is my best memory because I wanted to win something as an Inter player.

He then spoke on his departure from the club: “I think I left at the right time because I could not have given anything more. The knee that had already undergone three operations hurt me. It was also an act of respect towards the club and the fans.”

The 53-year-old concluded the interview by admitting he may bring his son to play in Italy in the coming years.

“My son Nicolas is 15-years-old and now plays in the Danube . He is the same as me and has the same left foot. When he is 18, maybe I will take him to Italy.”

The former Uruguayan national team player joined Inter in the Summer of 1992 from fellow Serie A side Lazio and in his three years with Inter he made 104 appearances across all competitions. He was able to boast a stellar scoring record which fell just shy of a goal every other game as he netted 50 goals and he also contributed 10 assists.

He left Inter for Borussia Dortmund and also played in Spain and China before returning to Uruguay where he finished his career with Racing Club.

Italian Report Claims Inter & Bayern Munich Consider Ivan Perisic – Corentin Tolisso Swap Deal

Inter and Bayern Munich are thinking about a possible swap deal that would see Ivan Perisic and Corentin Tolisso exchanged according to a report in today’s print edition of Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

Perisic is currently out on loan at the Bundesliga outfit, who have an option to sign him up on a permanent for €20 million.

However due to the currently ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic, which has caused great financial damage to football clubs, Bayern Munich could ask for Inter to grant them a discount on the Croatian national team winger, who they are keen to keep a hold of.

Alternatively, Bayern Munich could acquire him in a swap deal with Inter, who are interested in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Corentin Tolisso.

Due to the difference in their values, Bayern Munich would expect Inter to add some cash on top of 31-year-old Perisic for a swap deal to take place.
