José Oscar Herrera: “I Told Diego Godin To Stay With Inter, It’s Difficult To Be A Defender In Italy”

Former Atalanta and Cagliari defender José Oscar Herrera, who is also the father-in-law of Inter defender Diego Godin, discussed the future of the player and his time in Italy in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

First, he discussed a conversation he had with Godin recently about his first season in Serie A.

“We’re all here in the house together. In Uruguay we’re in lockdown but it’s not compulsory. With Diego we talked about how Serie A has changed and he told me that he didn’t play all the minutes and have the performances that he expected. Anyway, I think that after the years in Madrid and the national team he has amply demonstrated who he is.”

Herrera then revealed some advice he gave to the 34-year-old Uruguayan defender.

“But I told him not to listen to the voices and to grit his teeth. Being a defender in Italy is complicated for everyone, even if you’re an expert you can’t think you don’t have at least a minimum of ambition. I believe that if he finds confidence, he’s still one of the best central players in the league.”

The 54-year-old confirmed that he told Godin to stay with Inter and not look for a move away.

“I told him to stay, absolutely. For me, if he stays, he can be a key element in the fight for the title and it will make everyone believe in him again.”

Finally, Herrera spoke about Godin’s thoughts and feelings about Milan.

“He is very happy with the choice he made despite some initial difficulties. He told me that he loves the city and then he likes that in football in Italy there is an even stronger passion than in Spain, it’s very similar to what you feel when you play in Uruguay. Logically this also turns into more pressure.”

Godin has made 25 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1901 minutes. In that time, he has provided one assist and helped the side keep seven clean sheets. Rumours suggest that the Nerazzurri will look to sell the former Atletico defender in the summer in order to sign a younger replacement.

Inter & Bayern Munich Close To Reaching An Agreement Regarding Ivan Perisic

Inter and Bayern Munich are likely to reach an agreement in the deal for Croatian forward Ivan Perisic, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The report details how the Nerazzurri are set to earn around €15-20 million for the 31-year-old Croatian, who has impressed on loan with the Bavarian club this season. Inter are happy to sell the player in the summer as it will lower their wage bill by €4.6 million per season, in a contract that won’t expire until 2022.

Inter’s keenness to sell Perisic means that they are moving towards giving Bayern a discount on the previously agreed upon price, the report continues. The 2018 World Cup finalist has made 22 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1200 minutes. In that time, he has scored five goals and provided eight assists, impressing with his tactical flexibility.

Ex-Inter Forward Julio Ricardo Cruz: “Lautaro Martinez Is Extraordinary But People Were Skeptical At First”

Former Inter forward Julio Ricardo Cruz discussed the ongoing Coronavirus emergency, star striker Lautaro Martinez and the chances of Lionel Messi joining the Milanese club in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

“I’m having a hard time watching the news, it’s painful. But not even the coronavirus will change my mind, my intention is to return to live in Italy from next year.”

He then discussed Bologna coach Sinisa Mihajlovic.

“If he demanded that one of his teammates always take responsibility, it’s easy to imagine that he demands even more from one of his players now. Write that Sinisa is great.”

Cruz spoke about other coaches as well.

“No coach is the same as the other, it’s just great. As for me, Guidolin is really great. If I’ve become an important forward also in Italy, the merit is above all his. I’ll tell you this.”

The 45-year-old Argentinian told a story about Guidolin.

“You should know that Hector Cuper lives in the same building as me. Some time ago he told me, during a barbecue, he praised my performance against Arsenal when he asked me to mark Campbell. We won 3-0 at Highbury and for him the secret of that feat was my great work on the English defender. Do you want to know what I said to him? That the credit went to Guidolin, who from day one taught me how to make life difficult for the defenders.”

He touched on his slow adaption to Italian football.

“When you change the reality, the league, the way you train, it’s never easy. Then there’s a lot of tactics in Italy and it takes time to digest them. I’ll tell you another story.”

Cruz then told a story about Inter star Lautaro Martinez.

“Two years ago, I came to Milan and many people asked my opinion about Lautaro. I told them that he was an extraordinary attacker and that we just had to wait for him. It may have been my impression, but I noticed a bit of skepticism. Anyone who wants a player to come to Italy and make a statement immediately understands little about football. I remind you that a certain Thierry Henry has failed in your country.”

The 45-year-old didn’t think that Barcelona star Lionel Messi would be joining Inter, despite his wishes.

“I’d like him to play for Inter one day, I’d like it also for my friend Massimo Moratti who never hid his desire to take him to Milan. But I tell you the truth, I have a hard time seeing Messi away from Barcelona.”

He spoke about how difficult it is to pass this period without football.

“As a football man, I’m in trouble. With this damn coronavirus it’s like time has stopped and at this point it has to start running again only from the next day.”

Finally, Cruz explained what he meant by ‘the next day’.

“The day after the contagions are gone. The league can resume, I’m rooting for it to resume, but it must do so in total safety, with all possible and imaginable precautions, because health must always be put in front of everything and everyone. It’s true, the football system can go into crisis if the leagues are not finished but football will never die.”

Cruz spent six years of his career with the Nerazzurri. In that time, he made 197 appearances, scoring 75 goals and providing 19 assists. He left the club before the 2009/10 season, missing the Treble winning campaign.

The report details how the clubs may look to return to training on 4th May, the date indicated by Italian Minister of Sport Vincenzo Spadafora. FIGC president Gabriele Gravina is in contact with the Minister, trying to obtain a waiver so that the clubs can recall their players a week earlier in order to carry out the necessary medical examinations.

A presumed restart date is the 27th May, the report continues, although it is necessary to fully check that all the facilitates are safe and have the proper precautions in place. Some clubs will be able to use their sporting centres, although it depends on the size of the facilities. Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge On Signing Inter Owned Ivan Perisic: “We Haven’t Talked About It Yet, We Have Until May”

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge discussed Inter owned forward Ivan Perisic and whether the club will sign him permanently in the summer in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

“We haven’t talked about it yet, we have a clause to consider, I believe, until the end of May.”

Perisic has made 22 appearances across all competitions so far this season for Bayern, for a total of 1200 minutes. In that time, he has scored five goals and provided eight assists, impressing coach Hans-Dieter Flick with his tactical flexibility.

The Nerazzurri are hoping to sell the 31-year-old Croatian forward to the German side in the summer, for a fee of around €20 million. Inter have decided that the player is no longer in their future plans and would prefer to cash in on him, in order to reinvest those funds back into the squad. Another player that Inter are looking to sell in the summer is Argentine striker Mauro Icardi, who is currently on loan at PSG.

Italian Report Suggests Inter Coach Antonio Conte Won’t Adapt His System To Accommodate Christian Eriksen

Inter coach Antonio Conte will not change his tactical system to accommodate Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The report details how the 28-year-old former Spurs midfielder has struggled to adapt to Conte’s system after arriving in January. Some have suggested that Conte will change from his preferred formation or tinker with the tactics, but the coach has made it clear that it will be up to Eriksen to adapt to his system, rather than adapting his system for him.

Eriksen has a lot of competition in the position, the report continues. Other options for Conte include Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic, Italian midfielders Nicolo Barella and Stefano Sensi, as well as Uruguayan midfielder Matias Vecino. The Dane will have to work hard to impress his coach before the end of the season.

Eriksen has made eight appearances for the Nerazzurri so far this season, scoring one goal and providing one assist in that time.

Inter Prepared To Make A Move To Sign Dries Mertens

Inter are prepared to make a move to sign Belgian striker Dries Mertens, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The report details how the 32-year-old Belgian forward’s contract is set to expire with Napoli at the end of the season. Mertens met with club president Aurelio De Laurentiis at the start of March and signs suggested that a new deal was likely on the way, but since the Coronavirus pandemic has put a stop to football, discussions have been stopped.

Mertens is now considering every possible option open to him, the report continues. Inter are ahead of Monaco in his mind because his choice will be about his quality of life, rather than any particular football goals.

The 32-year-old has made 29 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1787 minutes. In that time, he has scored 12 goals and provided six assists.

Inter Legend Beppe Bergomi: “Federico Chiesa Is Good But Where Would He Fit In The Nerazzurri’s 3-5-2?”

Inter legend Beppe Bergomi discussed the ongoing Coronavirus emergency, multiple Inter transfer targets and the future of Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez in an interview in today’s print edition of the Italian magazine Gq Italia.

First, he discussed if Serie A would resume or be called off like other sports have been.

“Football is different from basketball, for example, which has playoffs. I think we should continue, I still don’t know what will happen. I spoke to Dr. Volpi who told me how careful we have to be, we have to go with lead feet especially because the problem is the rebound virus. I’m to resume the league, with all the security in the world if there are the right measures, but without going too far because it would compromise the following season. June, mid-July should be finished, to go too far would be a problem. We need to protect all the teams by completing the season but I think we need to make a distinction between Serie A and Serie B and Serie C because they are different categories. In B and C there are some teams that have the promotion practically in their pockets and it’s right that they can finish, in Serie A the situation is still all in question and uncertain, for the Scudetto and for the other positions.”

The 56-year-old Italian then discussed Inter midfielder Christian Eriksen, who joined the club from Tottenham in the January transfer window for €20 million.

“I was one of the first to question him and I got a lot of criticism. In the Cup game against Fiorentina, I heard people complaining that the man didn’t jump or that he wasn’t fast. Eriksen is a player different from the midfielders who Inter have, with good feet, who protects the ball well, who finds the goal. But he is not the kind of player who goes on the ball recovery with intensity, so from the beginning I wondered in a 3-5-2 where Conte would place him. I was partially right because Antonio has never played him as a starter in certain important games. He’s a player who has a lot of potential and quality but he needs to be put in a position to get them out and in this system of play I think that’s difficult. Conte should change something, an evolution of the module and the game system. English football is different, there was more freedom to space, our games don’t unlock easily. I knew he could go against this kind of problem, I would wait for him. He has to adapt to our football and we have to put him in a position to bring out his qualities.”

Bergomi spoke about Inter coach Antonio Conte and what is missing in the fight for the league title.

“Conte, of course he’s convincing me. You see his teams from the beginning. Clear ideas and simple concepts all the way to the end. This team works well for inside players looking for the strikers but the problem remains the outside players. Inter did better on the outside than inside because they are waiting. There you have to make a difference. The outsiders are doing well but you have to improve there by putting people who jump your man because when the teams press you suffer. Of course, Conte is convincing me, he’s doing very well without taking anything away from Spalletti who has achieved his goal for two years, but he still has to improve these little things.”

He then discussed which wing backs the Nerazzurri should look to sign, as well as highlighting players that would have suited Inter.

“Finding wingers who are good at passing and dribbling is hard. Today one of the best dribblers is Boga, who starts on the wing. But there may be an evolution of the game, I’d keep an eye on him. The Inter in January wanted Alonso of Chelsea, I like him very much, he guarantees you goals and has a good foot but this is a job that the great observers have Inter do. Of course, it wasn’t Lazaro, it was more Lazzari who went to Lazio. You have to find people who do that role well.”

Bergomi also discussed another transfer target of Inter, Fiorentina talisman Federico Chiesa.

“Chiesa, in what role? This year we saw him with Montella who put him in a 3-5-2 alongside Ribery, same thing Iachini. You can’t make him do the whole thing because you’re distorting him. He’s a striker, for me he’s on the national team, using his characteristics well because Mancini knows how to pull out all the characteristics well. Of course, I like Chiesa, he would be fine, but if I had to think about the 3-5-2 of Inter, I wouldn’t know where to put him. I’d take him if they took Lautaro away from me, I hope not because I like him so much. Players must always understand the context in which they should be placed, it’s not enough just to like them.”

Finally, Bergomi spoke about Inter striker Lautaro Martinez and whether he will join Barcelona in the summer or not.

“It’s hard to say. As an ex-Inter player I hope he can stay because when he was playing with Icardi he was struggling, now with Lukaku he’s found the right partner who opens up the space for him. Lukaku is a player who has physicality and plays for the team, he has that bit of healthy selfishness as a forward but he puts himself at his partner’s disposal and has exalted Lautaro’s qualities, to split this couple would be sad.”

Gabonese Football Federation President Mounguengui: “Aubameyang Should Go To A More Ambitious Club”

President of the Gabonese Football Federation, Pierre Alain Mounguengui, suggested that Inter target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang should leave Arsenal in the summer to look for a bigger club in an interview with International media outlet ESPN yesterday.

“I don’t want to say that Arsenal are not ambitious, but Arsenal doesn’t have ambitions as high as those of other clubs as far as Europe is concerned.”

Mounguengui then pointed out how it important it is for the 30-year-old Gabonese striker to find a move away to a bigger club.

“So, if Pierre could get a contract with a more ambitious club, he would certainly find his place there. On an individual level, we all consider him one of the best players in the world, but my advice to him is to keep working and attract the attention of the bigger and more ambitious clubs. “

Finally, he highlighted how Inter are one of the many clubs interested in signing the player.

“Aubameyang is a world-class player. And that’s why there are so many clubs at the window, including Inter.”

Aubameyang, who is contracted to the Gunners until 2021, is expected to leave North London in the summer in order to play in the Champions League. The player has made 32 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2711 minutes. In that time, he has scored 20 goals and provided one assist, consistently performing well for the club. The Nerazzurri are looking to strengthen the squad in every department in the summer in order to fight for both the league title and the Champions League.
