Italian Minister For Sport Spadafora: “Stopping All Sporting Activity For Another 10 Days Is A Sacrifice Worth Doing”

Vincenzo Spadafora, the Italian government minister for sport and youth policies, has confirmed that the hope is for football and other sports in Italy to return in May.

All sporting activity in the country was initially put on hold in the country until tomorrow due to the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic but the measures have been extended until April 13.

Serie A has been on hold since around the middle of March and it remains a complete mystery as to whether or not the season will even resume given the unprecedented circumstances.

Some clubs, like Lazio, are all for resuming the season but there are a number of clubs who hold the view that the season will not resume.

In a video which he posted to his official Facebook profile, Spadafora firstly explained the importance of the days between now and April 13.

“We have ten important days ahead of which will be complicated and days in which we can see difference. After Easter we will see clearer signs of change.

“This is why all sports competitions at all levels will still be banned for the next 10 days. We must ask our athletes to make a further sacrifice.

“We have also banned all types of training in sporting facilities. It is a sacrifice that serves to protect them and all of us.

“There are still lots of people dying every day and due to this data there is no sacrifice that cannot be done to try and reverse things.

“These are ten important days, after which there will be time to resume training and allow our athletes to compete at their best. This sacrifice is worth doing. We don’t make light-hearted decisions, we do it by listening to the technical and scientific committee and evaluating all the repercussions.”

He also touched upon sport and what is needed for them to resume.

“We are thinking of an extraordinary plan for things to start up again from May as we hope to be able to be out of the Coronavirus emergency and able to think about the future by then. To be able to start again in May though, there must be the necessary resources.”

Barcelona Wanting To Sign Inter’s Lautaro Martinez & PSG’s Neymar This Summer

Barcelona want to sign both Inter’s Lautaro Martinez and Paris Saint Germain’s Neymar in the upcoming Summer transfer window according to a report from Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo.

Barcelona wish to play the duo alongside star man and multi-time world player of the year Lionel Messi in what would be one of the fiercest attacking trios modern day football has ever seen.

Lautaro has a €111 million release clause in his contract with Inter but Barcelona do not want to pay that and want to do a player plus cash deal for him instead with Arturo Vidal seemingly the favourite to be included in any deal for the 22-year-old.

As for Neymar, he could cost Barcelona as much as €180 million but Barcelona will try to convince PSG to drop their demands for the former Santos player.

The report goes on to state that there is a slight problem when it comes to being able to register players. Barcelona already have their three non-EU player slots filled by Vidal, Arthur and Araujo.

If Vidal ends up at Inter as part of a deal for Lautaro, the Blaugrana will still have to free up another spot in order to register Neymar.

FIGC Considering Awarding Serie A Teams 3 Points Per Game They Have Left To Play

The Italian football federation (FIGC) are considering ways in which the season could be decided if play does not resume according to a report in today’s print edition of Corriere della Sera.

The league has been on hold for a few weeks now due to the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic and it remains a mystery as to whether or not the season will even resume given the unprecedented circumstances.

One idea that FIGC are mulling over as per the report is the idea of awarding every team three points per game they still have to play.

Some clubs have 12 games still to play whilst others, including Inter have 13 left meaning some clubs will have an additional 36 points added to their tally whilst those with 13 will have 39 added.

If FIGC follow through with this it would mean Juventus would be champions, Lazio would be second, Inter third and Atalanta fourth.

Roma and Napoli would finish fifth and sixth and make it into the Europa League group stages whilst Hellas Verona would finish seventh and make it into the Europa League preliminaries.

The report goes on to add that there will also only be two clubs relegated as the playoffs that would determine the third Serie B team to be promoted will not take place. Going off of FIGC’s idea of three points per game left to play, SPAL and Brescia would be relegated.

Barcelona Won’t Let Inter Linked Arthur Leave The Club This Summer

Barcelona will not let Arthur leave the club in the coming months and will not include him in any deal for Inter striker Lautaro Martinez according to a report from Spanish news outlet Sport.

Reports in the media in recent weeks have suggested that Inter have taken a liking to the Brazilian midfielder and would like to acquire him as part of a deal that would send Martinez to Barcelona but this report insists that this will not happen with Barcelona management deeming Arthur as a nontransferable asset.

The player himself is happy at Barcelona, who he is under contract with until 2024, and is not considering a departure of any kind from the Nou Camp.

The former Gremio player has a €400 million release clause in his contract with the club and the report goes on to state that Barcelona are convinced that he will get even better as time goes on.

Italian PFA President Tommasi: “There Is A Lack Of Perspective At The Moment”

Damiano Tommasi, the president of the Italian players association (AIC), has shared his belief that there is a lack of perspective at the moment when it comes to people suggesting when the season could possibly resume.

Serie A, like almost every other league on the planet, is currently on hold due to the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic and it remains completely unknown whether it will even be possible for the season to resume but it has not stopped speculation in the media and from people making suggestions.

Lots of dates have been thrown out there with most of them being around the end of May or start of June time now.

“First of all, there must be a sense of perspective that is missing today. At the moment, people have to limit travel and we first have to get out of our houses,” Tommasi remarked in an interview with Italian newspaper Libero, which appeared in today’s print edition.

“We also need to understand the effects of the infection on sports fitness. Pepe Reina confessed that he felt he lacked oxygen for 25 minutes.”

Tommasi, who is perhaps best known from his playing days at Roma, then went on to outline three things he believes are required before the season can actually resume.

“The first thing is that the emergency is over. The second thing is that it must be possible to play on beyond June 30 because there are still lots of matches to be played. Choosing promoted and relegated sides now is complicated.”

“Thirdly, you must be able to travel safely because it is not only a matter of training but also moving around 50 people twice a week in what is currently the red zone.”

Ex-Inter & AC Milan Director Massimilano Mirabelli: “Christian Eriksen Is Formidable”

Former Inter chief scout Massimilano Mirabelli has revealed that he recommended Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur to Inter management whilst he was at Boca Juniors.

The Uruguayan national team midfielder joined Inter’s arch rivals in the Summer of 2017 but things could have worked out differently for Bentancur had it not been for Inter being hampered by Financial Fair Play.

“I watched a youth team game between Boca Juniors and River Plate at La Bombonera and there was something special on the pitch,” he began an interview with Italian news outlet CalcioMercato.com.

“There was a boy [Bentancur] who dominated the midfield and really stood out. He made everything seem so simple and at one point in the game he dropped back to centre back and did very well there too.

“I got back to Italy and told everything to Mancini and Ausilio.

“It was a very complicated time for the club though. It was in the midst of the Thohir era and there was the very strong hold of Financial Fair Play too. Even small investments seemed like mountains to climb. From that game I actually came back with two recommendations, the other player was Exequiel Palacios.”

He then spoke on what it meant to go to a club like Inter having spent the rest of his scouting career in the lower leagues.

“Inter gave me the chance I had been waiting on for some time. I knew everything about the lower leagues but I felt the need to study new players and I wanted to break the banks and Ausilio gave me a way to do that.”

He then spoke on his relationship with current Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio.

“Ausilio never took my move to AC Milan well and it is something that still displeases me. Piero is a person that I love a lot. I owe a lot to him. He is a man with values that I share and he is a serious professional.

“Things have never been clarified as I would have liked them to be. We met at some Milan derbies and said we’d go to dinner but its never taken place for a thousand different reasons. Sooner or later it will happen though, maybe at the end of this bad period that we are experiencing.”

Next he discussed his relationship with former Inter and current Italian national team manager Roberto Mancini.

“Mancini is a man of an incredible class, from all points of view. The way Mancini sets up his work is incredible. He was born to win and is not afraid of failure.

“He is different from the rest. Mancini cares and will be wanting to win the European Championship’s.

“Mancini listens, he is open to dialogue and appreciates those who humbly present their points of view without thinking about the risk that the exposure of different ideas could entail. We talked a lot about football, about footballers, about ideas.”

He went on to discuss Inter’s January transfer market acquisition, Christian Eriksen, who has so far struggled to perform as expected for the club: “For me he is a formidable footballer, there are few midfielders like him around.

He also touched upon current Inter manager Antonio Conte.

“I consider Conte to be one of the most intelligent and prepared managers in the world. They say he is a fundamentalist but I still remember his 4-2-4 and I also remember him modifying Juventus to get the best out of Pirlo. I would not be surprised to see him change system at Inter too.”

Mirabelli first joined Inter in a scouting capacity in the Summer of 2011 and would spend three years with the club. He spent a year with Sunderland before returning to Inter to become the chief scout and would leave his role at Inter in September 2016.
