Italian Minister of Sport Spadafora: “Positive Cases In The Teams Doesn’t Bode Well For A Restart Of The Season”

Italian Minister of Sport Vincenzo Spadafora discussed the restart of the Serie A season in an interview on the TV Show ‘Twelfth on the field 2019/2020 – Second half’, hosted by Italian broadcaster Seilatv Bergamo earlier today.

“The news of these contagious cases in some football teams does not bode well. Until we understand what the health reports will say, we cannot give a certain answer. The keyword, also used in the recent meeting with the CTS, was ‘caution’. Obviously, what has happened in the last few hours does not help.”

He then discussed the fans who were against restarting this season, with some claiming that their opposition is out of respect for those who have been affected by Coronavirus.

“I’m a romantic, this sport lives thanks to the passion of the fans. Imagining a match without fans is bad, if the season were to restart it would certainly be behind closed doors and it would be strange. We have to understand how to organise ourselves for next autumn and how to manage this passion of the Italians with the times, which have changed.”

Spadafora touched on whether season ticket holders should be compensated.

“I know that several teams have already made a move. I don’t know what the clubs will want to do, it’s something that concerns them and not the government. The reimbursement would certainly be a nice gesture on the part of the clubs.”

The Minister of Sport spoke about the controversy of restarting the season and how important it is financially for Italy.

“In our country football moves a lot of money compared to other sports and this becomes the decisive factor. It is a great economic industry, and this is very important. These are the two sides of the coin that have led to the many controversies of the last period. This is an opportunity to change football, to regenerate it and to review a list of priorities and lifestyles.”

He touched on how football and other sports could be reformed as a result of the Coronavirus and its effects.

“There are those who delude themselves into thinking that that after this emergency, which I hope will pass as soon as possible, we can go back to doing the same things as before, having not understood the seriousness of the situation throughout the world. I hope this could be the right opportunity to see reform in football and sport. I will do everything I can to make this happen.”

Finally, Spadafora spoke about a possible date for a restart of the season and what discussions are currently ongoing.

“Next week, before May 18th, we will be able to understand, always on the basis of the analysis of the curve, the trend of contagions after this first period. Soon we will receive the response of the Technical-Scientific Committee on the health protocol adopted by the FIGC and we will understand if the doubts expressed by the CTS have been overcome or unfortunately remain. These two things will allow us to make a decision.”

Serie A is hoping to follow in the footsteps of the German Bundesliga, which has already been given a restart date of the 16th May.

Gianluca Di Marzio: “Inter Coach Conte Considering Changing Formation To Get The Best Out Of Christian Eriksen”

Italian journalist and transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio discussed Inter midfielder Christian Eriksen and his adaption to coach Antonio Conte’s tactical system in an interview on ‘Speciale Calciomercato l’Originale’, hosted by Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia earlier today.

“There is the idea of trying to change the system just to allow Eriksen to get the most out of his game, to move to a 3-4-1-2 formation to give him the opportunity to play in his real role and not as a midfielder with speed and intensity like he has done prior. These are just ideas that Conte is debating and then he’ll see with the club if it’s possible move market ideas to look for players who can play in a 3-4-1-2 formation rather than the 3-5-2 formation.”

Inter signed the 28-year-old Danish midfielder from Premier League side Tottenham in the January transfer window, in a deal worth around €20 million, despite the fact that his contract with the North London club would have expired at the end of this season.

Eriksen has made eight appearances across all competitions so far this season for the Nerazzurri, scoring one goal and providing one assist in that time.

The former Spurs talisman has been criticised by many in Italy since his arrival in January, with some claiming that he is not a good fit for Conte’s tactical system. Others have defended the player, saying that it takes time to adapt, especially considering the language barrier and new culture.

Spanish Media Claim Inter Tracking €50M Rated Athletic Bilbao Goalkeeper Unai Simon

Inter are interested in Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Unai Simon, according to reports in the Spanish media this morning.

The reports detail how the Nerazzurri are considering the 22-year-old Spaniard as the heir to captain Samir Handanovic, who is likely to be replaced as the club’s starting shot stopper for the 2021/22 season. Simon has a €50 million release clause, and Bilbao have no intention to negotiate about the price, settling for the release clause or no deal at all.

Inter, however, will discuss Simon’s economic demands during negotiations with Athletic Bilbao, the report continues. Talks have already started, although they have been slowed down by the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. Real Madrid and Valencia are both interested in the 22-year-old Spaniard, which is why Bilbao want to extend his contract past 2023 and increase his release clause to €70 million.

Simon has made 27 appearances across all competitions so far this season, keeping 12 clean sheets in that time.

French Media Report That Barcelona Pull Out Of Race To Sign PSG Kurzawa Amidst Concrete Interest From Inter

Barcelona have decided to pull out from the race to sign French full back Layvin Kurzawa, amidst interest from Inter, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the French newspaper L’Equipe.

The report details how the 27-year-old Frenchman’s contract expires with Paris Saint Germain at the end of the season, and it won’t be renewed, meaning that he is available to sign on a free transfer in the summer. This has pushed the Blaugrana to focus on other options.

Inter are particularly interested in signing Kurzawa, the report continues, as the club are looking to strengthen their full back department ahead of next season. Inter To Sign Sensi Permanently Whilst Victor Moses Depends On Chelsea Lowering €12M Option

Inter are prepared to sign Italian midfielder Stefano Sensi but are still considering whether to sign Chelsea’s Victor Moses, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The report details how the Nerazzurri have already returned to Appiano Gentile after 58 days at home. All the squad tested negative for Coronavirus, and coach Antonio Conte is happy to learn that all the injured players, especially Sensi and Moses, have recovered from their various injuries, giving Conte a full-strength squad.

Sensi, despite his repeated injuries this season, will be redeemed by Inter, the report continues. There is a moral commitment to sign the Italian, after the Nerazzurri reached a gentleman’s agreement with Sassuolo, but Conte is already convinced of the player’s value regardless. In regard to Moses, the Nerazzurri would only sign the player permanently should Chelsea lower the price from €12 million, although a new loan deal is also acceptable.

French Media Claim Inter Linked Cavani Could Stay At PSG But Only If They Don’t Sign Icardi

Inter linked forward Edinson Cavani could stay at Paris Saint Germain if they decide not to sign Argentine forward Mauro Icardi, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the French newspaper L’Equipe.

The report details how the 27-year-old Inter owned forward’s future in Paris is unclear. Despite recent reports that the Parisian club are looking to sign Icardi, although with a discount, a new opportunity has arisen. Cavani’s dreams have changed, the report continues, and has been earning more play time since January at the expense of Icardi. The player would be happy to stay in the French capital, giving PSG more options. Renewing the forward’s contract would be significantly cheaper than signing Icardi, considering his €70 million price tag.

The 33-year-old has made 22 appearances across all competitions so far this season, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in that time.

Spanish Media Claim Barcelona Want Inter’s €111M Rated Striker Lautaro Martinez At All Costs

Barcelona are looking to sign Inter striker Lautaro Martinez at any cost, despite the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Spanish newspaper AS.

The report details how the Catalan club have their financial situation under control, due to the Spanish system of Expediente de Regulación Temporal de Empleo or ERTE, which allows the club to temporarily suspend the contracts of their employees or even dismiss them due to a serious emergency, like the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

Whilst this could pose an issue in the deal for Lautaro, as the Spanish government would closely examine those who use ERTE, the report continues, Barcelona are ready to explain that it has been used elsewhere in the club, but not on the first team, who instead have already reached a separate salary cut agreement.

Barcelona know that using ERTE will incur a higher tax burden from the Spanish government, the report highlights, but the club aren’t worried as there is no intention of making any crazy moves on the transfer market, apart from the deal for Lautaro. The Blaugrana are hoping to offer €60 million plus two players in exchange for the Argentine striker.
