Italian Journalist Luca Marchetti: “Inter CEO Marotta Has To Sell Icardi Or Else Be Forced To Sell An Import ant Player”

Italian football journalist and football transfer market expert Luca Marchetti has confirmed that there are negotiations between Inter and Barcelona over Lautaro Martinez but there is currently an obstacle to negotiations.

Barcelona have seemingly identified the highly rated 22-year-old striker as one of their number one transfer targets ahead of the upcoming Summer transfer window.

Lautaro has a €111 million release clause in his current contract with Inter but Barcelona would prefer to do a player(s) plus cash deal with the Nerazzurri and this transfer formula is proving problematic at the moment.

“The evaluations of the individual players that Barcelona would like to insert is an obstacle but there are negotiations taking place and they are very strong,” Marchetti remarked in an interview with Italian radio station TMW Radio earlier on today.

He then went on to discuss something that Inter chief executive Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta may be forced into doing if unable to offload Mauro Icardi in the event that Paris Saint Germain do not take up their option to sign him for €70 million.

“If Marotta does not manage to sell Icardi in good time, then he may be forced to give up an important piece of his squad.”

He concluded by downplaying reports that have seen Inter target Dries Mertens linked to city rivals AC Milan: “His signing wouldn’t conform to the line that they have taken.”

Inter Manager Conte To Rely On Usual Suspects Lautaro, Lukaku & Brozovic If Serie A Season Resumes

Inter manager Antonio Conte will continue to rely upon Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku to deliver the goods if the 2019/20 season resumes according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Argentine and Belgian have struck up a lethal partnership this term and have combined for 39 goals and nine assists between them this season across all competitions.

Lukaku has 23 goals and five assists whilst Lautaro has 16 goals and four assists and they have become one of the most menacing strike forces in Europe.

Marcelo Brozovic will also be a player former Italian national team manager Conte will rely heavily on. The Croatian midfielder keeps things ticking in the centre of the park and has been absolutely pivotal for Inter since Luciano Spalletti deployed him as a regista.

The report goes on to add that Christian Eriksen and Stefano Sensi could both also give Inter that little extra something. Eriksen has struggled since his arrival whilst Sensi has spent a considerable time out injured but it is no secret what both players can do when on their game.

Inter & Juventus Go Head To Head Over Bulgarian Starlet Kostov

Inter and Juventus are both interested in signing Septemvri Sofia prospect Kaloyan Kostov and have submitted official offers for him as per the Bulgarian club’s president Rumen Chander.

“In the last year and a half we have received numerous certificates of esteem for the boy and not only from Juventus and Benfica,” Chander remarked in an interview with Bulgarian news outlet KotaSport.com.

“He has excellent qualities and it is no coincidence that he is almost always part of national team squads above his age group. We have received official offers for him from Juventus and Inter Milan. ”

The centre back, who turned 16-years-old yesterday, is a Bulgarian youth national team player at under 17 level and has already made the bench for Septemvri Sofia’s first team earlier on this season.

Kostov is one of several young prospects that Inter are seemingly interested in at the moment with reports elsewhere in the media stating that they are also keen on signing the likes of Brescia midfielder Sandro Tonali and PSV Eindhoven attacker Mohamed Ihattaren.

Tonali is widely regarded as one of the top prospects worldwide at the moment and has also drawn links to Juventus and Barcelona as of late. Ihattaren has meanwhile received many rave reviews since bursting onto the scene at PSV.

Sporting defender Marcos Acuna’s agent Pablo Del Rio has confirmed that there are several clubs interested in signing his client who is keen on a move to Italy ahead of the upcoming Summer transfer window.

“There are many clubs interested in Acuna that we are talking to at the moment,” Del Rio remarked in an interview with Italian news outlet romanews.eu.

“I prefer not to name names right now, though. I will admit that Italy and Serie A is a priority for him. We’ll see how the negotiations unfold once the COVID-19 crisis has been resolved.”

Inter and Roma among other clubs have been linked with making a move for the Argentine national team full back who could cost in the region of €10 million.

One report has even suggested that Sporting could try and use Acuna in a deal to sign Joao Mario from Inter given Inter’s interest in the 28-year-old, who has been with his current employers since 2017.

Acuna, who has a contract with the Liga NOS outfit until the end of the 2022/23 season, has made 30 appearances across all competitions to date this term.

In just over 2500 minutes Acuna has scored two goals and has also provided a total of four assists to his teammates.

Man Utd’s Alexis Sanchez & Chelsea’s Victor Moses Among 4 Players To Leave Inter This Summer

Alexis Sanchez, Victor Moses, Tommaso Berni and Borja Valero are all set to leave Inter at the end of the season according to a report from Italian news outlet PassioneInter.com.

Sanchez and Moses are both currently out on loan at Inter from Manchester United and Chelsea respectively and Inter are unlikely to pursue permanent moves for either player.

Berni and Valero’s contracts with the club are meanwhile set to expire. Berni will likely retire and take up a coaching role within the Inter set-up whilst Valero’s deal will not be extended and he will therefore become a free agent.

The report goes on to add that Daniele Padelli, whose contract is also due to expire in a matter of weeks, is likely to sign a new contract and stay with the club but he will be downgraded to third choice goalkeeper.

Stefano Sensi, Ashley Young and Cristiano Biraghi are all expected to remain with the club past the end of this season.

Inter will buy Sensi outright from Sassuolo, extend Young’s contract and will likely loan Biraghi again for another season.

Napoli President De Laurentiis Issues Ultimatum To Inter & Chelsea Target Dries Mertens

Napoli president and owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has issued Dries Mertens with an ultimatum regarding his future with the club according to a report from Italian newspaper Il Mattino.

In the event that he does not accept the €4 million a year offer, he could well land at a number of clubs who are ready to sign him on a free transfer.

Inter, Chelsea, Roma, Newcastle United, AS Monaco and most recently AC Milan have all been linked with making a move for the former PSV Eindhoven player, if he lets his contract runs out with the Stadio San Paolo club.

Italy’s Sporting Minister Spadafora: “I Hope The Serie A Resumes But The Final Decision Rests With The Government”

Italian government minister for sport and youth policies Vincenzo Spadafora has dismissed claims that he is against the idea of the 2019/20 Serie A season resuming and insisted that he wants the season to resume.

“The majority of Italians do not welcome the resumption of the championship. Football is important to this country and I know it well unlike those who want to pass on a different message,” he explained in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, which appeared in today’s print edition of the Milan based newspaper.

“I oppose the restart? It would be surreal for a sports minister to demonise football. I hope the season resumes but the government will decide.”

Spadafora proceeded to discuss training and was asked when the season, which has been on hold for just a few days shy of two months, could possibly start up again.

“Team training will resume from May 18 and as for when the season can start again we will rely on scientific elements which are not available today.

Spadafora, who has been in his current position since 2018, then went on to reveal that the Italian government are to invest a significant sum of money into the sporting sector to help out.

“There will be equal dignity with other sports and grassroots sports. There will soon be a definitive clarification on the protocol and in the event of another stop, my effort will be twofold to limit the economic damage to clubs and supporting the whole world of sport. Between ordinary and extraordinary resources, we will invest about €1 billion into sport as a whole.”

He was then asked about the ongoing issue in relation to promotions and relegation’s in football but insisted that it is not up to him what happens.

“That is a concern of FIGC and CONI. I hope to resume and not have to face problems. I want to end the season but for now we are unable to say when we can start again.”

He concluded the interview by adding: “On May 4 individual training resumed, from May 18 teams can train as a collective in compliance with the protocol and by the end of May it will be possible to say whether or not Serie A will resume.”
