Lecce President Saverio Sticchi Damiani: “I’m Proud Because We Played Against Inter As Equals”

Lecce president Saverio Sticchi Damiani discussed his side’s 1-1 draw against Inter on Sunday in an interview with Italian media outlet Calciolecce.it.

“I’m satisfied. During the week I was lucid and balanced when I spoke about our poor form. Even in difficult times you have to keep calm. We’re putting a difficult period behind us.”

Sticchi Damiani then discussed the return of Lecce’s form.

“Between market acquisitions and a few recovered players we’ve gone back to being the Lecce we’ve always admired on other occasions.

“But keeping perspective is fundamental because we didn’t become a world class team today. So now we all have to go back to work, the team on the field and us on the market.”

The Lecce president then praised his squad for their performance against the Nerazzurri.

“We played a tough and determined game, the performance you have to put in as a team fighting to avoid relegation. We were tactically more cautious, but it exalted some players like Christian Dell’Orco. We certainly showed great balance.”

Finally, Sticchi Damiani was positive about the team’s reaction after conceding the first goal of the game.

“We also saw the reaction after conceding. I’m proud because we played against Inter as equals.

“These are points that are worth a lot, both for the league table and for morale. Now the guys have regained some certainties that we risked losing.”

Lecce Fans Display Banner Insulting Inter Coach Antonio Conte: “A Man Without Dignity”

Inter coach Antonio Conte was not positively welcomed by the Lecce fans in yesterday’s 1-1 draw against the Puglian club.

The 50-year-old Italian coach spent the first six years of his professional career with Lecce before leaving for Juventus in 1991. The Lecce born coach returned to the city for a game for the first time in eight years, with his last game coming against the club in his native city when he was coach of Juventus.

The Giallorossi displayed a banner that said: “Conte man without dignity, you are the s**t of our city.”

Newcastle Facing Competition From RB Leipzig For Inter Wingback Valentino Lazaro

Newcastle are facing competition from German side RB Leipzig for Inter midfielder Valentino Lazaro, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the German newspaper Bild.

The report details how the 23-year-old Austrian, who joined the Nerazzurri from Hertha Berlin in the summer, has struggled to adapt to the tactical system of coach Antonio Conte.

Due to his unconvincing performances so far this season, the player seems destined to be sold by Inter this month.

Newcastle met with Lazaro’s agent yesterday in England to discuss a possible deal, the report continues. However, the English club are now facing competition from RB Leipzig for his signature.

The German club have contracted Inter to register their interest, which is not a surprise considering they were also one of the club’s chasing Lazaro’s signature last summer.

Lazaro has made 11 appearances across all competitions for the Nerazzurri so far this season for a total of 513 minutes. In that time he has provided two assists.

Roma Sporting Director Gianluca Petrachi: “If Inter Want To Loan Matteo Politano To Us We’ll Listen”

Roma sporting director Gianluca Petrachi suggested in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia that the Giallorossi could still sign Inter forward Matteo Politano, but without including Leonardo Spinazzola in the deal.

“I believe that common sense must always prevail.” Petrachi said before the 3-1 win at Genoa.

“Those in the transfer market know that certain things can happen. When people give their word, the operation is considered to be closed. We needed Politano and Fonseca’s words testify to that.”

Petrachi revealed that the Roman club would still be happy to sign Politano from the Nerazzurri.

“We’ll look for a forward and if Inter want to loan Politano to Roma and allow Politano to play, we’ll listen.

“The player is owned by Inter, he could become a Roma player if we redeem him and we have to remember that we always talk about human beings and we have to do their good too.

“We’re sorry Politano had a promise broken, but these disputes happen in the transfer market.”

Di Marzio: “Inter Will Complete Christian Eriksen & Victor Moses Signings Soon”

Italian journalist and transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio discussed Inter’s transfer market moves in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia today, after the Nerazzurri’s 1-1 draw against Lecce.

“The deals for Christian Eriksen and Victor Moses are to be finalised in these coming weeks,” he said.

“The only uncertain situation for Inter at the moment is with signing Olivier Giroud, because they need to wait for Matteo Politano to find a new club first.”

Di Marzio then spoke about the current situation of the 26-year-old Italian forward.

“Politano wants to go to Roma and has also publicly shown himself at the airport,” he confirmed.

“The relationship is not good between the clubs, but by making the tension cool down they can try again to find a deal involving only the Inter forward.”

Politano was close to joining the Giallorossi earlier this week, in a deal that would have seen the 26-year-old Italian forward be sent down to Rome in exchange for full back Leonardo Spinazzola.

However, the deal ultimately collapsed and now the Nerazzurri must find a new home for the player or convince Roma to sign him.

Lecce Coach Fabio Liverani: “The Difference Between Juventus & Inter Is The Squad”

Lecce coach Fabio Liverani discussed his side’s 1-1 draw against Inter earlier today in an interview with Italian broadcaster RAI.

“It is normal that our motivations are very high, we tried to give serenity by putting a third central defender to avoid physical duels with Lukaku and Lautaro. With this system we have given less space,” Liverani explained.

The Lecce coach then touched on the difference between Juventus and Inter.

“The squad is the difference,” he said.

“Inter closed a very big gap six months ago with major investments and a blank cheque to the coach who has made a huge impact. Juventus has a continuity of management choices and has been doing this for ten years.”

The Nerazzurri are currently second in the league table after 20 games, one point behind rivals and reigning champions Juventus and one point ahead of Lazio in third.

If the Biancocelesti win their game in hand then Inter could fall to third in the league table.

Inter Defender Alessandro Bastoni: “In The Week We’ll Try To Figure Out Why We Didn’t Win”

Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni spoke to gathered reporters in the mixed zone today after the Nerazzurri’s disappointing 1-1 draw against Lecce, where the Italian scored his first Inter goal. His words were reported by Italian media outlet TuttoMercatoWeb.

“Inter play every match to win, there’s no win so there’s something wrong, in the week we’ll try to figure out what,” Bastoni said.

“The goal? It was very nice, but when the three points don’t arrive there’s always a bit of bitterness.”

The 20-year-old Italian then touched on the competition for a starting spot.

“I arrived with the knowledge that I’m playing alongside at strong players. When the coach calls upon me, I always try to answer his call as best I can. As I’ve always said, I’m happy to steal secrets from my teammates.”

Bastoni made his 11th appearance of the season at the Stadio Via del Mare, coming on in the second half in place of veteran defender Diego Godin.

Roma Full-Back Leonardo Spinazzola On Failed Move To Inter: It’s Crazy To Say I’m Injured”

Roma full back Leonardo Spinazzola spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia after the Giallorossi’s league clash against Genoa yesterday. The Italian was close to joining Inter in exchange for Matteo Politano, but the deal ultimately collapsed.

He said: “It’s been a busy week. I wanted to have a great game, I wanted to win, and I did both, that’s good. Now we’re thinking about Juve, then there’s the derby and it’s an important week for everyone.”

The 26-year-old Italian suggested that the failed transfer hasn’t impacted his feelings towards the Giallorossi.

“Every player wants the best for themselves and gives their best both for themselves and the team. Every player wants to be at one hundred percent to help the team and I am satisfied.”

The Italian full back was surprised about the fears relating to his physical condition.

“I’m fine. It’s crazy, I’m a national team player who’s been around a lot of teams. I’m at Roma now. I think it’s crazy to say I’m injured, it was an important game today and I ran a lot. I also trained alone in Milan in the gym and as soon as I came back, I didn’t want to miss training.”

He suggested that he would be available for Roma in the upcoming Derby della Capitale.

“Yes, I’m here now and I’m staying here and I’m just thinking about this crucial week for us.”

Finally, Spinazzola highlighted that he wasn’t upset by the failed transfer away.

“No, I think the director has already spoken as I’ve been told, and I don’t want to talk more about it. Now I’m thinking about Roma and myself. They’re not big problems, we have everything in life and we just have to say thank you.”
