Spanish Media Report Man City’s Joao Will Have To Accept Paycut To Join Barcelona Before Joining Inter

Joao Cancelo will have to agree to a pay cut in order for a swap deal between Manchester City and Barcelona to take place according to a report from the online edition of Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo.

The two clubs are in talks over a swap deal that would see Cancelo and compatriot Nelson Semedo exchanged but Cancelo’s current wage is holding things up.

Should he agree to take the pay cut, it will help the swap deal take place and will also help Barcelona in their pursuit of Inter striker Lautaro Martinez.

Although Inter have made it clear they do not want to sell the 22-year-old Argentine and will only let him go if his €111 million release clause is met, recent reports have suggested that Barcelona will try and strike a player plus cash deal for him, with that player being Cancelo.

The full back is no stranger to Inter having previously had a loan spell with the club, during which he made 28 appearances. He scored one goal and tallied four assists in his time on the park.

Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio has shared his belief that anything can still happen with Inter striker Lautaro Martinez despite Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio’s recent comments.

The highly rated 22-year-old Argentine national team forward has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona ahead of the upcoming Summer transfer window and Ausilio has recently made it clear that Inter are in no rush to sell him and the only way he will leave the club is if his €111 million release clause is triggered.

“The game is very open, despite the Ausilio’s statement. Until Inter has found a replacement, they will not give the definitive OK to Lautaro’s transfer, who will also have to expose himself, to make it clear that he wants to go to Barcelona,” Di Marzio explained whilst present in the Sky Sport Italia studios yesterday evening.

This season Lautaro, who has a contract with Inter until the end of the 2022/23 season, has made 31 appearances across all competitions to date. In his time on the park, the former Racing Club player has scored a total of 16 goals and has also provided four assists for his teammates,

Barcelona could pay Lautaro Martinez’s €111 million release clause with thanks to a financial fund according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper La Repubblica.

The report continues that La Liga restarting has helped Barcelona’s financial situation a great deal and that they now don’t need to raise cash first buy selling off players to afford signing Lautaro Martinez.

Therefore, according to the report, the Blaugrana are considering acquiring capital from a fund consisting of sponsors and partners to activate Lautaro Martinez €111 million release clause, funds which will be repaid from offloading players deemed surplus to requirements.

Inter CEO Beppe Marotta: “Playoff? We’re Against All Solutions That Don’t Look At The Serie A League Table”

Inter chief executive Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta has revealed that he is against the idea of the remainder of the 2019/20 Serie A season being decided by play-offs at both ends of the table.

Last week it was announced that the Serie A season would get back underway on June 20, which will be little over three months since the last Serie A game was played.

Fears that the season may need to be brought to a halt again in the event of a second wave of Coronavirus in Italy remain and it has been suggested that if the season needs to be stopped, things could be decided by play-offs.

“We are absolutely against any alternative solution that is not finishing the season or taking the table as it is,” Marotta began an interview with Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, which appeared in today’s print edition.

“If the season cannot be finished, it is because the epidemic will have started again, and then I don’t see how playoffs can be played.

“While the algorithm is not a solution, how can you consider the “unpredictable” which is the basis of football? It would be better to consider the table up to that point.”

The idea of play-offs is not the only thing Marotta is opposed to with reports in the past few days stating he is opposed to the dates provided for the remainder of the Coppa Italia to be carried out. He is so opposed in fact that he has reportedly threatened to field the youth team.
