Jovetic to Have Medical with Inter on Tuesday
Sunday, July 26
The club confirmed via their official Twitter account that Jovetic would be arriving in Milan on Monday and undergoing a medical on Tuesday.
The potential move doesn’t come as a huge surprise, as Inter manager Roberto Mancini has vocally sung Jovetic’s praises this summer.
“We really need an attacker because we only have two players up front at the moment,” Mancini told Corriere dello Sport, per Richard Jolly of ESPN FC. “I already tried to sign Jovetic in my last season with Manchester City, but he arrived when I was gone. He can play as a focal point or as a support striker but could also feature on the wings.”
That versatility was never utilized at Manchester City, where the 25-year-old dealt with injuries and ultimately played a diminished role with the club, appearing in just 30 contests (10 starts) and accumulating eight goals and four assists.
Those numbers were a far cry from the production he had with Fiorentina (27 goals and eight assists from 2011-13) that led to City signing him for £22 million in the summer of 2013.
Still, with Sergio Aguero entrenched as the starter at forward, Wilfried Bony and Edin Dzeko (if he remains with the club) waiting in the wings and Raheem Sterling signed to bring more potency to the wings, it’s hard to see where Jovetic would have fit in with City this season.
At Inter, he has the chance to shine and reinvigorate what was a promising young career before it was slightly detoured at City. His versatility, playmaking ability and penchant for scoring will instantly improve the Italian club and should make him one of the more exciting players to watch in Italy, as he was in his Fiorentina days.
