Ahead of Racing Club’s Copa Libertadores group stage fixture with Universidad de Chile, manager Eduardo Coudet addressed the media.

Among the many questions was one relating to Lautaro Martinez and who will replace him. Martinez is understood to have agreed a transfer to Inter but it would appear that Racing hope to strike some kind of deal with the Nerazzurri that will see the young striker loaned back for an as yet unclear period of time.

“I will give you a name now. The reinforcement I want is Lautaro Martinez, we hope to keep a hold of him for a while,” Coudet told reporters ahead of tonight’s clash with the Chilean club.

Martinez in recent days has admitted that this match may well prove to be his last for Racing in the Copa Libertadores but upon Coudet’s admission, that may no longer prove to be the case for the highly rated 20-year-old.

Certo che andare in Champions League o meno pesa eccome, ma nel contesto di una stagione giocata punto a punto non può essere un particolare a definire il futuro di un progetto. Certo, alla fine, soprattutto in casa Inter, qualcuno dovrà porsi degli interrogativi per cercare di non ripeterli. Ma il punto (o i pochi punti) che mancheranno si potranno trovare dappertutto. L’importante è essere onesti e capire l’errore. Possano stare tranquilli i tifosi di entrambe le squadre: per come sono strutturate le società (e questo è sicuramente un merito) la partecipazione alla Champions League ha più risvolti di prestigio che economici. Cerco di spiegarmi meglio: sicuramente gli introiti europei fanno la differenza e fanno comodo, ma non spostano praticamente nulla nel discorso FFP (per Inter) o per la ricerca dei talenti in casa Lazio. Certo per Mauro Icardi o Sergej Milinković-Savić giocare la Champions o meno potrebbe invece essere decisivo…”

Inter legend Sandro Mazzola has slammed referee Daniele Orsato’s performance in Saturday’s Derby D’Italia but insisted that Orsato’s actions did not affect the way that the game ended.

“Orsato was wrong,” Mazzola explained to Tuttosport. “Vecino’s sending off was right, but of course there was Miralem Pjanic [who should have got sent off]. Orsato made some serious mistakes, but if you are winning with five minutes to go you have to take it home. Inter had the game in his hand and threw it away. The mistakes made in the last few minutes were not by Orsato but by Luciano Spalletti.”

Mazzola, who spent his entire career with Inter, then discussed Italian football needing the two Milan clubs back at their best.

“I think there are people [at both clubs] with serious intentions and concrete projects in mind. I think the city and the fans are responding to them and on Saturday night I was at San Siro and it impressed me.”

Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio was in the stands last night as Roma took on Liverpool in the Champions League semi-final second leg at the Stadio Olimpico.

Corriere dello Sport report that Ausilio had no objectives with regard to watching certain players while being there but he instead used the opportunity to keep in touch with the many agents and other representatives present. It is unclear however which agents he specifically spoke with.

Ausilio, who has held his current position since February 2014, has been hard at work and already secured a number of players for Inter ahead of the summer transfer window opening in July. Ausilio has been working on the free transfer signings of Stefan de Vrij and Kwadwo Asamoah as well as a deal that will see highly rated Argentine youngster Lautaro Martinez join from Racing Club. All three deals are done, as per various reports and just lack official confirmation from the Nerazzurri.
