Gianluca Di Marzio: “Inter, Juventus & AC Milan All Interested In Brescia’s Sandro Tonali”

Italian journalist and transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio spoke about the future of Inter target Sandro Tonali in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia earlier today.

“Inter like him as much as Juventus do. He may be the right player to rebuild AC Milan. Everything will depend on the budget that the teams decide to invest in the market, because Cellino won’t accept less than €30 million plus bonuses. It’s not a deal that can be closed with exchanges.”

Inter and Juventus are both incredibly keen to sign the 19-year-old Italian midfielder, who is impressing in his first season in the topflight. Tonali, who is contracted to the Gialloblu until 2021, has made 24 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2130 minutes. In that time, he has scored one goal and provided five assists, with many comparing the Italian teenager to former Italy legends Gennaro Gattuso and Andrea Pirlo.

The Nerazzurri and Bianconeri are fighting over many transfer targets in view of this summer, with another player in the center of the battle being Fiorentina’s talismanic forward Federico Chiesa, who seems destined to join one of the two clubs in the summer, although Juventus are in pole position.

Ex-Inter Winger Andy Van Der Meyde: “Except For My Time With Ajax & Inter I Never Had Fun Playing Football”

Former Inter winger Andy van der Meyde discussed his career and time with Inter in an interview in today’s print edition of the Dutch sports magazine Voetbal International.

First, he discussed how he joined PSV in 2010 but failed to make a single appearance for the club.

“I trained but didn’t play. With all due respect, I played in front of 75,000 people at the San Siro and 50,000 spectators at the Amsterdam Arena, so playing Monday night for fifteen people at De Herdgang, the PSV training centre, isn’t really nice. Then Rutten, the PSV coach at the time, told me that we wouldn’t meet and that they wouldn’t renew my contract. Another disappointment, yet another one.”

The 40-year-old spoke about the final years of his career.

“I thought, ‘What do I do now? I spent a week in the dark. In Azerbaijan I was able to earn €1.2 million in two years. But I didn’t want to play anymore. I always had to train, play, rest well and watch what I ate and drank. Well, I didn’t really do that last thing!”

Van der Meyde discussed his party lifestyle after retiring from professional football in 2012.

“My career was over. I had a big apartment in Amsterdam. It was party, party, party. Drinking, drugs, girls. All that crap came flooding back. I was having a good time because I was breathing a sense of freedom. I was also barely known. Seven years away from the Netherlands and nobody knew me at parties. It was nice, I could do what I wanted.”

He spoke about former Inter midfielder Wesley Sneijder, who was mocked by some fans for his physical appearance at the 2018 World Cup, after his retirement.

“I understand very well what Wesley Sneijder is going through now. He lived his life as a monk and did everything he could for football. Now he’s having a good time. He drinks and eats what he wants and got fatter. Everybody’s talking about him. But I think, let him enjoy life for a while and don’t worry about it. He doesn’t have to play for the national team anymore.”

Finally, Van der Meyde spoke about the 2010 World Cup and how that killed his passion for football.

“After the World Cup I also had some difficult moments. I saw those guys playing and I thought, ‘I could have been there, you bastard, it’s all your fault’. But okay, it was different. Even when I left England and didn’t play for a year, I had a hard time watching football without thinking I could have been there too. It’s a real shame, because except for my time at Ajax and a bit at Inter, I never had much fun playing football again. I’d forgotten how to have fun, but football has become an obstacle for me.”

Van der Meyde spent two years in Italy with Inter between 2003 to 2005. He failed to settle at the club, making 54 appearances in that time, scoring four goals and providing six assists before being sold to Premier League side Everton. There, his career nosedived and he spent a year playing exclusively with the reserves. Despite spending four years in the north of England with Everton, he only made 24 appearances for the club, for a total of 1091 minutes, providing only one assist in that time.

Ex-Inter Midfielder Benoit Cauet: “Man Utd’s Paul Pogba Ideal For Inter, I’d Only Swap Lautaro For Barcelona Captain Messi”

Former Inter midfielder Benoit Cauet discussed the current Nerazzurri squad and the transfer market in an interview with Italian media outlet FcInter1908 earlier today.

First, he discussed the possible transfer of Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba to Inter in the summer.

“Conte knows him well, let’s start with that. He grew up and matured at Juventus, he became world champion. He can certainly help Inter, he has all the characteristics, personality and character. Obviously Inter could use someone like him.”

Cauet spoke about the difficulties experienced by former Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen, who arrived in Milan in January in a deal worth around €20 million.

“Arriving in January is not easy. He’s got the skills to show, technical skills to win. He was instrumental in qualifying for the Champions League final with Tottenham last year. He needs time. He doesn’t know the language, his teammates. There are many factors to consider. Joining a team that’s already on a path isn’t easy, you have to get into the system. He will bring a lot, he’s an absolute value and there’s no question about that.”

The Frenchman spoke about Inter coach Antonio Conte, who was one of Cauet’s toughest opponents in his playing career.

“We’re talking about a coach who led Juventus to important triumphs, starting a cycle. He’s had experience abroad and won everywhere with his own way of understanding football. If Inter have taken Conte it’s because they’ve seen what he’s done throughout his career.

“As a player I remember him, he was someone who ran a lot and never gave up, who never stopped and who fought until the end. That’s how his teams are. In fact, I have to say that his teams play really well. The club needed a coach like that. The club did well to get him, because he’s a great professional and he’s very hungry. Inter haven’t won for a long time and he wants to win, he’s built a team that plays football well and has fun. He’s found two great strikers.”

Finally, Cauet spoke highly of Inter striker Lautaro Martinez, who has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona in the summer.

“Congratulations to those who found Lautaro, Ausilio knows how to sign good players. Toro is a genius purchase, today he’s priceless. I absolutely wouldn’t sell him to Barcelona, not even for Griezmann. Maybe for Messi. He’s young, he can still grow more. Griezmann is a world champion, a great player but he’s no stronger than Lautaro. Toro is rising, he looks like Suarez at his age.”

The 22-year-old Lautaro, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2023, has exploded under the guidance of Conte this season. The player has made 31 appearances across all competitions, for a total of 2437 minutes. In that time, he has scored 16 goals and provided four assists, forming a formidable partnership with Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku.

Inter Coach Antonio Conte Leading Training & Studying Previous Games During Entire Lockdown

Inter coach Antonio Conte has worked hard with his staff to ensure the fitness of all the squad during the quarantine, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The report details how Conte and his staff have developed detailed personalised training programs for all the squad, whilst also sending the players exercise bikes and treadmills.

Every morning Conte or another one of his staff lead physical training sessions via Zoom, ensuring that the players are following the program.

Conte has also spent this time reviewing all of Inter’s games this season, the report continues, looking for any new ideas or anything that could help the squad grow.

The Lecce born coach is expected to pick up from where he left off, but these two months could prove fruitful in providing new ideas. Players are expected to return to training on the 4th of May.

Nerazzurri Legend Riccardo Ferri: “Inter Were Really In Need Of Someone Like Beppe Marotta With A Heart Of Gold”

Former Inter defender Riccardo Ferri discussed Inter defenders and Inter CEO Beppe Marotta in an interview with Giacomo ‘Ciccio’ Valenti on Instagram Live earlier today with his statements reported by Italian media outlet FcInterNews.

“At the moment Stefan de Vrij has the advantage because he plays centrally, while Milan Skriniar is the one in trouble. Diego Godin has suffered this problem of playing in a back three. Alessandro Bastoni could become a cornerstone of Inter and the national team, he knows how to hold his position very well and plays with his head held high.”

Ferri also spoke about Marotta and his work for Inter.

“Who amazed me the most? I’d say Marotta, he knows how to use the carrot and stick method well but he also has a heart of gold, he’s a good guy. Then he knows how to communicate very well and decide, a figure like that was missing in this team.

“I’ll tell you a story. The hospital in Lodi asked me to liaise with Inter to find out if Suning could help with the emergency, as they had already done in China. I called him and he went to work. In just eight days, he sent 26,000 masks to Lodi and 65,000 to Bergamo, just when the crisis was at its peak.”

Finally, Ferri told an anecdote about Inter coach Antonio Conte.

“He is like Giovanni Trapattoni in that he is a person who loves his work and transmits a lot. And this comes very quickly to the fans, both with Trap and Conte. I’m not surprised by the love for Conte sincerely, I knew he would have been enough.”

Conte has already decided which defenders will be the starters in next season’s campaign. The Lecce born coach is convinced by the performances of Stefan de Vrij, Milan Skriniar and breakout Italian starlet Alessandro Bastoni.

The former Juventus and Chelsea coach hasn’t been convinced by the performances of Uruguayan veteran Diego Godin, who has struggled to adapt to a back three.

The Milanese club are now looking to replace the former Atletico Madrid man, with either Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen or Hellas Verona starlet Marash Kumbulla. Godin is wanted by Premier League side Tottenham, as well as other clubs across Europe like Manchester United.

Inter Owned Midfielder Radja Nainggolan: “I’d Still Today Not Accept A Move To Juventus”

Inter owned midfielder Radja Nainggolan discussed his career, Inter and the ongoing Coronavirus situation in an interview with Er Faina on Instagram Live earlier today. His words were noted by Italian media outlet FcInter1908.

First, he discussed his time at Roma.

“It was difficult to leave Cagliari the first time to go to Rome. Cellino didn’t want to let me leave. Several offers came in, but I had the agreement from June with the Giallorossi and then I arrived in January. I didn’t go to the for the money but because it was a good opportunity for me. I saw De Rossi and Totti and I thought, ‘Wow, what a phenomenon’. They took me in, they’re the opposite of what you might think.”

He then touched on the rumours that he was a problematic character in the dressing room.

“They told me that I created problems in the locker room but it’s not true, I always bonded well with everyone. The only thing is that I have my character and I’m direct. There in Rome I immediately bonded with Pjanic and Benatia because of our language, Gervinho was there too. Pjanic gave me a big hand, then we all bonded. I’ve got plenty of anecdotes, but what happens in the locker room stays there. Sometimes I’d arrive tired at training, I’d fall asleep on the couch and the next day the photos were taken. I never questioned any choice. But when I wasn’t playing, I wasn’t happy, because I always felt important, able to help the team. But in a big club there are great players and whether or not I played or not, I would encourage everyone.”

Nainggolan spoke about his best game with the Giallorossi.

“I remember a derby in which we won 2-0 and I was playing in the midfield, it was mine as captain, Totti and De Rossi were missing, it was an important victory.”

He discussed his famous goal against Juventus.

“The goal against them was a personal release. But we often beat them at home in the Roma shirt. I don’t hate anyone. The thing that always bothers me is that when a person doesn’t feel like going to play for a club, they may not go. Not because I hate them, but if I won a Scudetto playing five games a year I wouldn’t feel it’s mine. Maybe I didn’t go at the beginning for fear of not playing, I went another way, but you don’t have to choose the team that always wins. Winning is normal there, a Scudetto at Roma is different. Would I say yes to Juve? I’d say no to Juve. That’s why. Pjanic is at Juve, I talk to him every day. I’m not angry with Juve.”

The Belgian midfielder spoke about his strongest opponent at Roma’s rivals, Laizo.

“Especially in recent years there is Milinkovic-Savic. Klose also. But I’ve never suffered from a particular player. Luis Alberto is on a different level this year and makes the difference, then Immobile who scores a lot. Acerbi has made the difference again this year. I once came back from the Maldives with Inzaghi and Immobile. For nine hours we talked about football and we didn’t even stop for ten minutes. We talk about everything, derby, matches, players, wrong goals or facts. You can see Inzaghi’s hand on Lazio, he even risked going away from there but every one of them is confirmed and he’s doing better and better.”

Nainggolan spoke about his eventual departure from Roma.

“I left to respect myself. They did things behind my back, and the way I look at it, I wouldn’t even have been able to say goodbye. Since this person wanted me to leave, I chose to go where I wanted. I chose to go to Inter, I didn’t want to change country and they had Spalletti with whom I had done well at Roma. The situation was easy for him too. It was easy to choose. The Inter fans have always been close to me and I’m a big fan, but the first three or four months I was sadder to have left Roma than happy to have arrived at Inter. Then it started off badly. I had to stop because of an injury. Then a start and a goal but the performance itself wasn’t consistent. Maybe I wasn’t myself, maybe it was my fault. I can’t explain it, it was the first time I thought I could give more of myself.”

He spoke about his return to Sardinia to play for Cagliari, where he is currently on loan.

“I went back to Cagliari because I was dumped. Going to China, I already knew I couldn’t play friendly games. When they told me I could leave, I thought they would give me a chance. But it went the other way. I started looking around and Giulini had already been calling me the year before. When he heard about this occasion, he told me that it was the year of the centenary, an important year, a squad that I know. There were other proposals. I had also spoke to Fiorentina, Sampdoria. But when I decided something, I follow it and I saw that Cagliari had a project that I liked. After a year like this I thought I would find serenity again.”

The Belgian spoke about a potential restart to the season.

“I’d like to play again, but only if it’s safe to do so. Health comes first. Even if I don’t like games behind closed doors.”

He discussed which team he thinks will win the league title this season.

“Juve. Without taking anything away from Lazio, who are working miracles. The Bianconeri have a very big squad. They’re a great group. They’ve got to play it and in football never say never. Inter? They’ve changed a lot, even in their style of play, it’s more physical. They’re always there, but they’re always missing something to win. Better with Icardi or Lukaku? Two completely different players. Mauro has shown he knows how to score goals. Romelu scores fewer goals maybe but he contributes more, he bumps into everyone, he goes the extra mile. In the national team I even took him down shoulder to shoulder, but he’s powerful. Technically he’s not very clean but in the national team, when training ends, he goes to all the positions in the penalty area. He trains on the precision of the shot, if he looks at the ground, he knows how to hit the ball. He trains a lot in the area. He has to be acknowledged as a hard worker.”

Nainggolan touched on his disappointment that he wasn’t called up for the 2018 World Cup and his decision to retire.

“Yes. But that’s it. I miss it. It’s everybody’s dream to wear the shirt of their country. But when you make a decision, it’s hard to go back. I’d hardly come back.”

The Nerazzurri owned midfielder discussed a potential return to Roma.

“If the conditions were right I’d go back to Roma, I’ve lived wonderful years there. It’s a team where I’ve given everything. What do I miss most of all? The evenings. I’m kidding… I miss everything. I still write to my former teammates when I watch the games. It was a natural world for me there the way I lived and stayed. Then things happened… Let’s see. The door is always open. The derby in Rome is really different from the one in Milan, another thing. San Siro is beautiful, they do wonderful choreographies, but you don’t feel the Milan derby like you do in Rome during the week. There if you lose, they make fun of you even a month later. In Milan after the game it’s all over.”

Nainggolan touched on what he wants to do after he retires from football.

“I’d like to get out of it because of the way the world of football is and the way I am. But I’d like to help with the younger guys, work with the talents to give them a chance by following them. Coach? I could do that but I don’t know if I will be. In football I could also do it because I have a difficult character and the way I say things, too directly. As a coach I don’t know if I’d coach Juve or Lazio. I don’t think about being a coach right now.”

He spoke about his best goal ever.

“This year’s goal against SPAL for speed of execution but I’ve scored other good ones.”

Nainggolan discussed Italian coach Luciano Spalletti, who managed him at both Roma and Inter.

“For me he’s always the same. As coach on the pitch he’s the strongest I’ve had. The way he sees matches, his vision of football, the best for my vision of football. As a man he’s tough, before I was told he was different. When it comes to fighting, he also goes against the players, it’s part of his personality. Allegri was the first coach I had in Serie A, I didn’t like him a lot and I didn’t exactly understand his personal demands on me, but he made him play to his style. Conte, I lived with him for a month. Forget about the choices he made, but if he’s good it has to be admitted, he has an absurd mentality. In a month he said things to my face, it’s to be appreciated, as I like it. After a month the team had already understood him. The training sessions are heavy but you immediately realize what his idea is.”

He discussed some of his favourite players.

“Totti if you talk about the most obvious. But Dzeko is the complete player for me. Icardi was great in the area. Lautaro is physically strong, even if he’s shorter, he holds the ball up well and his technique is very strong.”

The Cagliari midfielder spoke about former Inter striker Ronaldo.

“I remember him at Real Madrid, when he was already weighed down, and he was doing great. He was really devastating. But I’d always choose Messi. He and CR7 are in a different category. Cristiano is a war machine, built, Messi is pure talent for me. Even in the cleanliness of touch, the way he holds the ball. Cristiano is now more of a first striker. At Manchester United he was a different man to the footballer he is now.”

He touched on which players bothered him the most in his career.

“I also remember the Treble winning Inter squad. Thiago Motta bounced past me with ease. Seedorf was was too strong physically and it was annoying to play against him. Handanovic is an incredible goalkeeper, especially for his tranquility when he plays. He’s also very effective with his feet, he does things that other goalkeepers don’t do either.”

Finally, Nainggolan spoke about a conversation he had with Miralem Pjanic when he told him that he was joining Juventus.

“That he was going to strengthen a team that was already winning, but our relationship has remained the same. Even when I played as a former player it was difficult for me to play against a team I care about, I’m sensitive about that, I care a lot about the clubs I’ve been to. But when you have to play you have to play, maybe apologize right away. You have to try and try and win.”
