UEFA To Spend Next 2 Days Working On New Look Calendar For Football

Between today and tomorrow, European football’s governing body UEFA will continue to work on coming up with a new look calendar according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

UEFA wish for the seasons in all of their 55 member federations to be finished and there are two ways that this could happen.

The seasons could resume and all remaining games played or the formats of each season could be modified and the restart could see teams finish the season by playing playoffs/mini-tournaments.

In the event that a season cannot resume, UEFA will leave it up to each league to decide who they submit for European competitions.

With regard to the Champions League and Europa League, the report states that UEFA could have the remaining games played in parallel with domestic campaigns or the most probable outcome is that domestic seasons will finish and then the remaining Champions League and Europa League games will be played.

As for next season’s Champions League and Europa League, UEFA hope to have a list of qualified teams by August 3 and are ready to cut out a qualification round. The groups will be drawn in September and the group stages will begin in late September or early October.

UEFA Deny Claims World Health Organisation Recommend Football Is Kept On Hold Until 2021

European football’s governing body UEFA have dismissed media claims made regarding the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) thoughts regarding the resumption of football according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia.

Some reports began doing the rounds earlier on today which claimed the World Health Organisation had recommended to football authorities to not allow play to resume until at least 2021.

A UEFA spokesperson has however denied that this is the case to Sky Sport Italia and has insisted that UEFA are carrying on with their plans to resume the 2019/20 season and finishing it when possible alongside their 55 member federations in accordance with the relevant medical protocol.

Football across the continent of Europe and pretty much everywhere across the world is currently on hold due to the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic.

Some leagues such as the Belgian Pro League and lower tier leagues in some countries have already decided to cancel the remainder of their seasons but the majority of leagues are still working with the aim of resuming the season.

Ex-Inter Striker Cassano: “Inter Sporting Director Piero Ausilio Is The Best Out There”

Former Inter striker Antonio Cassano has revealed it was a dispute over a contract renewal with former AC Milan director Adriano Galliani which led to him crossing the city divide in Milan to join Inter.

Cassano joined AC Milan ahead of the 2011/12 season on a three year deal but spent just a single season before switching sides to Inter, where he also spent just one season before a move to Parma.

“I have always spoken well of everyone from AC Milan, where I won a league title. I only ever had problems with Adriano Galliani which were due to me wanting a new contract,” the well-travelled striker explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia earlier on today.

“They were only dealing with people who had one year left whilst I had two. Inter were looking at me and I decided to go there after the breakdown in relations with Galliani.”
Cassano also spoke very highly of long serving Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio and admitted that it is down to him that he has started the process of becoming a director himself.

“I know him well and I recently video called him to show that I shaved my head like his [laughs]. Thanks to him I have started to study to become a director.

“He is the best out there, he has discovered many player and he is number one in that regard but he does not sell players well.”

During his season with Inter, Cassano, who retired from playing in 2018 after a spell with Hellas Verona, made 39 appearances across all competitions. He scored nine goals and provided a total of 15 assists for his teammates.

Italian Report Claims Only 4 Inter Players Were Ill With The Flu Not 23 As Claimed By Romelu Lukaku

Inter only had four players who suffered from flu like symptoms at the turn of the year, not almost the entire first team squad as Inter striker Romelu Lukaku had claimed in a recent interview according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia.

In an interview with Belgian television presenter Kat Kerkhofs via social media platform Instagram, Lukaku claimed that 23 of the 25 Inter first team players were ill at the turn of the year, a claim which was especially alarming although Sky Sport Italia state it was nowhere near as bad as that.

Milan Skriniar was the first to have flu like symptoms and had to come off in a match against Cagliari as a result. He then missed the next game against Fiorentina as a result, as did Danilo D’Ambrosio and Stefan de Vrij.

The only other player to have flu like symptoms was young centre back Alessandro Bastoni, who missed the match against Lazio in the middle of February.

Inter Linked Tottenham Defender Jan Vertonghen: “I Want To Sign For A Club With Ambition”

Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has hinted that he wishes to be at an ambitious club amid ongoing speculation relating to his future with the Premier League outfit.

The Belgian national team centre back’s contract with Spurs is due to expire in a matter of months and he has been linked with several clubs including Serie A trio Inter, Roma and Napoli among other clubs elsewhere in Europe.

“I want to sign with the right club. It could be Spurs, or another club,” he stressed in an interview with Belgian YouTube channel Play Sports Kot.

“It must be a club with ambition. I want to play in Europe, as the national team is important for me. I want to play in Europe and learn another language.”

The experienced defender, formerly of Dutch giants Ajax, then went on to reveal that since the Coronavirus outbreak, interest in his services has actually increased.

“It might sound weird, but since the Coronavirus crisis there has been more interest. I’m a free agent and some clubs might not have a lot of money.”

The 32-year-old has been with Spurs since the Summer of 2012 and has made no less than 311 appearances across all competitions for the north London based club since then.

26 of those appearances have come over the course of this season and in 2151 minutes on the field he has scored two goals and provided a single assist for his teammates.

Radja Nainggolan: “I Could Have Done Much Better At Inter, I Was Hoping For A Second Chance”

In an Instagram Live interview with Italian tennis star Fabio Fognini, Inter owned midfielder Radja Nainggolan has spoken on his time with the club and firstly spoke about what led to him departing Roma to join Inter in the Summer of 2018.

“I left my heart in Rome, as that was a unique experience. Unfortunately, I let pride get the better of me and that made me change clubs,” he explained in the interview which took place earlier on today.

He then went on to say he is satisfied with what he done in his first season with Inter but admitted that he knows he was still not at his best for the Nerazzurri.

“I went to Inter with a coach who really wanted me there. I arrived with so much enthusiasm, then I got injured and had some problems. Looking at the statistics, I can be satisfied, even if I can do better. It wasn’t the best of Nainggolan at Inter.”

Nainggolan, who still has a contract with Inter until the end of the 2021/22 season, then gave himself a vote of confidence by stating that he thinks he has what it takes to make an impact with Inter.

“I did still hope to be given another chance, but that didn’t happen. It’s a decision I have to accept. I have another two years on my contract with Inter, we’ll see what happens, as so much has changed at the club.

“I still believe that I can have my say at Inter. I never had any problems in the dressing room, despite what’s reported.”

Nainggolan is currently out on loan at fellow Serie A club Cagliari and he has found his best form again. In 24 appearances across all competitions, he has scored five goals and provided six assists for his teammates.

Italian Minister For Sport To Meet With FIGC, Lega Serie A & Many More To Hold Talks Over Resumption Of The Season

The Italian government minister for sport Vincenzo Spadafora is to meet with several Italian football officials today to discuss the resumption of the 2019/20 campaign according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

Italian football federation (FIGC) president Gabriele Gravina, Paolo Zeppilli the head of the medical commission will both be present at the meeting as will representatives from Lega Serie A, Lega Serie B, Lega Pro, Lega Nazionale Dilettanti (amateur football), Italian player association, Italian manager association and referees.

The report from the Milan based newspaper warns that this meeting is only likely to be an interlocutory meeting and little will actually be decided at it, apart from partially re-opening training on an individual basis.

Not much more can be decided due to the fact a new Italian government decree is due in the early part of next week and the contents of it could well scupper anything agreed upon at the meeting today.

Roberto Carlos: “It Took Me 10 Minutes To Leave Inter For Real Madrid”

Former Inter defender Roberto Carlos has admitted he did not hang around when it came to leaving Inter when Real Madrid came in for him.

The Brazilian spent a single season with Inter, the 1995/96 season, and left for Real Madrid where he would go on to establish himself as one of the greatest full backs of all time during an 11 year spell with Los Blancos.

The one time World Cup winner however was not utilised as a full back during his brief time on Inter’s books and this was a major factor in him deciding to leave the club.

“I played on the wing at Inter. The problem is that in the first seven games, I scored seven goals. They went to put me up front in Italy in 1995 and I suffered a lot because of it,” he remarked in an interview with world football’s governing body FIFA via social media platform Instagram.

“I spoke with Inter president Massimo Moratti and I said to him that I couldn’t keep playing up front because in three months, I had the Copa America and that day I had a meeting with Real president Lorenzo Sanz and in 10 minutes, I left and I came to Madrid. In that time, things were done very quickly.”

The now 47-year-old, who also played for Fenerbahce and Anzhi Makhachkala during his career, made 34 appearances across all competitions in his single season with the Nerazzurri in which he scored seven goals and provided a single assist for his teammates.
