Six Serie A Clubs Seek Clarification Regarding Possible Resumption Of Season

Lega Serie A wish to restart the 2019/20 season as and when possible but there are six clubs seeking clarification on the matter according to a report in today’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport.

Between today and Thursday there will be a series of decisive meetings relating to the possible resumption of the season both on a domestic level and at European level too.

The Lega Serie A council yesterday voted unanimously in favour of wanting to complete the current season but SPAL, Brescia, Sampdoria, Udinese, Cagliari and Torino are all seeking clarification.

The clubs are concerned that by bringing the players back to training means force majeure can no longer be invoked and clubs are also seeking clarity over whether they could be subjected to any legal action in the event players get the virus once football start’s up again.

Moreover, the concerns regarding contracts and loans expiring at the end of June remain too.

The report from the Rome based newspaper goes on to add that there will have to be an agreement reached with television broadcasters, Sky Sport Italia, DAZN and IMG too. The trio have sought an extension to the payment they should have paid at the end of May and Lega Serie A are inclined to meet their demands.

Italian Media Claims Napoli’s Dries Mertens Prefers Signing For Inter Over Juventus

Napoli striker Dries Mertens would prefer to join Inter over Juventus if he is to leave the Stadio San Paolo club in the coming months according to a report from Italian broadcaster SportMediaset.

The Belgian national team striker is out of contract at the end of the current campaign and it is uncertain as to whether or not he will remain at the Naples based outfit, who he has played his football for since 2013.

If he does not sign a contract extension with the Partenopei, who have reportedly offered him a two year contract extension with an annual salary of €4 million plus a €2 million signing on bonus, he would prefer to end up at Inter opposed to Juventus.

The report from the broadcaster goes on to explain that the reason for this is he does not want to betray the Napoli support by joining the Bianconeri. The report also does however warn that the chance to play under Maurizio Sarri could convince Mertens to join Juventus though.

This season the 32-year-old has made 29 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has score 12 goals and provided six assists.

Wanda Nara’s Italian Lawyer: “Ex-Inter Captain Mauro Icardi Has Done Well At PSG, He’s Always Liked Idea Of Playing For Napoli”

The Italian lawyer of Mauro Icardi’s agent and wife Wanda Nara, Elio Letterio Pino, spoke moments ago on Italian radio station Radio Marte, on a wide variety of subjects starting with Napoli’s failed attempts to sign the Argentine striker this past Summer.

“Aurelio De Laurentiis can have no regrets, because he always tried to sign Icardi,” Letterio Pino explained in an interview with Italian radio station Radio Marte this evening.

“For one reason or another, Mauro didn’t want to remain in Italy last summer, so the president just had the wrong timing. Some might not like his tactical role within a certain system, but if you’re looking for a striker who scores goals, then Mauro always delivers.”

He then went on to reflect about the 27-year-old’s time on loan at reigning French champions Paris Saint Germain, who can sign him up on a permanent basis for €70 million.

“Mauro has done very well in Paris. It’s true that he didn’t play the last two Champions League games, but it’s a very strong squad and it’s understandable to be on the bench occasionally for Edinson Cavani.

“I’d always want to keep a 27-year-old with his goal record but Leonardo will make his own evaluations.”

Letterio Pino then refused to rule out the possibility of former Sampdoria player Icardi ending up at Napoli in the future.

“Obviously, Wanda Nara is his agent and she takes care of his interests. I know Mauro well, he’s like a son to me. The idea of joining Napoli has always been one he’s liked.

“There was a little controversy in the past with Diego Maradona, but he knows the club’s history and Napoli is the city of his idol, the idol of all Argentines.

“Perhaps Napoli would’ve been the ideal club to light him up, so there’s absolutely nothing against this club.”

Whilst Icardi has been in the French capital, he has made 31 appearances across all competitions to date. In just about 2000 minutes on the park, Icardi has scored 20 goals and has provided four assists for his teammates.

There are contrasting reports in the media regarding PSG’s intentions for Icardi but he should not struggle to find another club with many reports stating that Inter’s arch rivals Juventus are especially keen on signing him.

Italian Report Claims Serie A Teams Might Not Resume Training Until May 18

The possible resumption of training could be pushed back to later on in May according to a report in today’s print edition of La Stampa.

It has been widely suggested and spoken about by those in power that training could well resume starting May 4, when Italy will start to slowly relax current measures in place because of the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic, as confirmed by Italian prime minister Giuseppe Conte.

However, the report from La Stampa claims that training may not resume until as late as May 18 given some recent comments made.

Much will ultimately depend on how the meeting between Italian minister for sport and youth policies Vincenzo Spadafora and the players goes tomorrow.

Reports have suggested that at least three weeks of training will be required before the season can resume and if the resumption of training is indeed pushed back until May 18, there will be no Serie A football until almost the middle of June.

Whilst in the French capital, Icardi has made 31 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored 20 goals and provided four assists.
