Inter In Pole Position To Sign Hellas Verona Defender Marash Kumbulla

Inter remain in pole position to land highly rated Hellas Verona defender Marash Kumbulla in the upcoming Summer transfer window according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

The likes of Fiorentina and Napoli have both also been linked with moves for the young Albanian national team centre back, who will cost in the region of €30 million.

Hellas Verona valued him at this price prior to the Coronavirus outbreak and have not changed their mind about their evaluation and are ultimately hoping that a bidding war for his signature may take place in order to drive up the transfer fee.

The 20-year-old is in the midst of his first season at Serie A level and has been highly impressive and been a key cog in the Hellas Verona side this term who are in the race for Europa League qualification.

In 19 appearances across all competitions to date, he has scored a single goal.

Italian Media Reports Borja Valero, Gagliardini & Asamoah All Set To Leave Inter This Summer

Three players are certain to leave Inter in the coming months according to a report in today’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport.

The first player is veteran midfielder Borja Valero. The Spaniard, who joined the club from Fiorentina back in 2017, is out of contract at the end of this season and Inter have zero intention of giving him a new contract.

Roberto Gagliardini is also going to be on his way out having become a victim of the midfield depth, especially since the arrival of Christian Eriksen in the January transfer window.

Kwadwo Asamoah is also set to depart the Nerazzurri in the next few months too. The Ghanaian defender has really struggled with injuries this term and will leave Inter to join Turkish Super Lig outfit Fenerbahce.

The report from the Rome based newspaper goes on to add that Matias Vecino may also end up sold by Inter.

Brescia Starlet Tonali Prefers Idea Of Move To Inter Over Juventus

Brescia midfielder Sandro Tonali prefers the idea of a Summer transfer window switch to Inter over Juventus according to a report in today’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport.

The 19-year-old sensation, who has been likened to the legendary Andrea Pirlo, has long drawn links to both the Nerazzurri and Bianconeri and as per the report the player has a preference for a move to Inter.

The reason for this preference is because the Italian national team midfielder feels that he is likely to get more playing time at Inter unlike at Juventus where he would face a lot of competition for a place in the midfield.

Reports have suggested that Brescia want in the region of €50 million for Tonali but this report from the Rome based newspaper goes on to state that he could perhaps be acquired for €30 million plus a young player with good potential.

This season Tonali has one goal and five assists in 24 appearances across all competitions.

Inter Will Sign One Of Napoli’s Mertens Or Chelsea’s Giroud In The Summer

One of Napoli’s Dries Mertens and Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud will be brought in by Inter in the coming months according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

The two are both able to be signed to a pre-contract agreement due to the fact their deals with their respective employers are due to expire at the end of the current season.

Mertens has held talks with Napoli over a contract extension but seems far away from striking an agreement with them.

As for Giroud, he too has held talks with Chelsea, who also have a clause to extend his current deal by a season which could well scupper Inter’s move for him if they are to trigger said clause.

The role the players are vying for is to back-up to Romelu Lukaku. Whilst Giroud is certainly more suited for such a role over Mertens, Mertens does of course have a wealth of Serie A experience.

Fabio Cannavaro: “I Wanted To Stay At Inter, I Spent Some Wonderful Years There”

Former Inter defender Fabio Cannavaro has moved to clear up some misconceptions surrounding his move from Inter to arch rivals Juventus.

The former centre back, who captained Italy during their 2006 World Cup triumph, swapped the Nerazzurri for the Bianconeri in 2004 and he found himself crucified by many Inter supporters who were upset with his decision.

“People are stupid and started thinking that I was doing poorly on purpose because Moggi had called me to go to Juventus,” he began an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia.

“Everyone at Inter is an exceptional person and I spent some wonderful years there. I’m sorry that people thought that I purposely didn’t play in order to leave but I actually played for a year and a half with a stress fracture in my leg.

“I still remember when Inter sold me. Oriali came to me and told me: ‘I’m sorry but the club had decided to sell you. The deal is done and you have to leave tomorrow’.

“I said: “How can you sell me after all the hard work I’ve done? I want to be here. I was told I was going to Juventus but I wanted to stay at Inter where I had some beautiful years.

“Some of the stories that came out were not true.”

He then went on to reiterate that he was injured and revealed that he understands why there was some bitterness on the part of Inter fans.

“In the next two years I played 38 games out of 38 and 36 games out of 36. I then went to the World Cup and I won it, I won the Balon d’Or and the FIFA World Player of the year, it is normal that there was some bitterness from Inter fans and then some stories came out.

“I want to repeat that I had an injury and I made a mistake by not stopping immediately.”

Cannavaro joined Inter in the Summer of 2002 from Parma and in his two years with the club, the current manager of Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande, made a total of 74 appearances across all competitions, in which he scored three goals.

After Juventus he went on to Spanish giants Real Madrid, had a season back with Juventus and then finished his career after a season with Emirati club Al Ahli.

Ex-Inter Goalkeeper Toldo: “Samir Handanovic Is One Of The Best In The World”

Legendary Inter goalkeeper Francesco Toldo has shared his belief that the remainder of the season should be cancelled and no titles awarded due to the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic.

“I would give up now, I would say lets close it now and start back in September ready and prepared. The Scudetto should not be assigned but teams should be qualified for the European competitions,” he remarked in an interview with Italian radio station TMW Radio last night.

He was then asked whether it was Christian Vieri or him who scored ‘that’ goal against Juventus all those years ago.

“It was given to Vieri but in reality he did not even touch it. The goal was mine. I think it was the funniest thing that ever happened to me in football.”

He concluded the interview by discussing whether he feels he is similar to current Inter number one Samir Handanovic.

“I see him as very similar to me. He is both calm and concentrated. I really like him as a goalkeeper, for years I have said that he is one of the best in the world. He has played well for years.”

Toldo joined Inter in the Summer of 2001 from fellow Serie A side Fiorentina and he went on to spend just shy of a decade on the club’s books before retiring after Inter’s historic treble win in the 2009/10 season.

The former Italian national team shot-stopper made a total of 233 appearances across all competitions for the Nerazzurri during which time kept a total of 95 clean sheets.
