Some Serie A Teams Concerned About Possibly Having To Play In Lombardy If Season Resumes

Many Serie A clubs do not wish to play in the Lombardy region, particularly in Bergamo, if the 2019/20 Serie A season resumes according to a report from Rome based newspaper La Repubblica.

The Lombardy region has been the worst affected region in Italy by the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic and clubs are concerned about playing games in the region due to how badly it has been affected.

The report goes on to claim that should football resume, there may be no football played or training carried out in northern parts of Italy meaning 14 Serie A teams would be forced to play the remainder of their games away from their home stadiums and also train away from their training grounds too.

Solutions are being studied and the above may only be a temporary measure until the area is no longer seen to be a risk area.

The report goes on to conclude that football may not resume whatsoever due to the current situation which would come much to the delight of four unnamed clubs who want the season to be over.

Ex-Inter Goalkeeper Toldo: “We Deserved To Win More Trophies Under Hector Cuper”

In an Instagram with Milan based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, legendary Inter goalkeeper Francesco Toldo has shared his belief that Hector Cuper’s Inter side of the early 2000s deserved to win some silverware.

Under Cuper’s tutelage, Inter achieved a third place finish in the first season and went one better and finished in second place in what was his final full season in charge the following season.

“He was a very tough man, he didn’t have the prerogative of tactics like Arrigo Sacchi or Roberto Mancini but he had our respect, he said things to the face,” Toldo explained in the interview which was broadcast via Gazzetta dello Sport’s official Instagram profile earlier on today.

“He was a good person, his characteristic was to beat his hand on his heart upon entering the field. In those years we would deserved some more trophies.”

He then went on to speak about who the best player he has played with and against was.

“I played with Ronaldo for a year at Inter and many times against him. He was perhaps the strongest player, with the speed and cleverness of a Brazilian he split every defence. Too bad for the injuries that annoyed him, but the whole world of football loves him.”

Next he was asked which current Serie A goalkeeper resembles him most in terms of play style.

“Samir Handanovic is a bit like me then there is Alex Meret and there is Gigio Donnarumma too. He has an incredible physique. Every goalkeeper is different.”

Toldo joined Inter in 2001 and spent a total of nine years on the club’s books in which he made a total of 233 appearances across all competitions which he kept 95 clean sheets in.

Mario Kempes On Inter Striker Lautaro Martinez’s Future: “Inter Are A Great Team But Barcelona Is Totally Different”

Legendary Argentine footballer Mario Kempes has shared his views on the continued media reports which are linking Inter striker Lautaro Martinez with a move to Barcelona.

Various reports in the media of a number of countries have stated that the highly rated 22-year-old is on the reigning La Liga champions radar and is one of their top transfer targets.

It has been widely reported that Barcelona wish to do a player(s) plus cash deal for the former Racing Club player who they are said to see as the long term successor to current striker Luis Suarez.

Other reports have meanwhile stated that Inter have no intention of letting him go for anything less than the €111 million release clause which is in his current contract, a clause which is only valid to foreign teams during the first two weeks in July.

“For a couple of years now Lautaro has shown himself to be a top number nine at Inter and for Argentine,” Kempes remarked in an interview with Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb.

“I believe that the train only passes once and, beyond the fact that Inter is a great team recognised worldwide, Barça is totally different, playing alongside Messi would be fantastic.”

“If he stays with Inter, it could be a good thing to continue gaining experience, however, if he wants to go to Barcelona and Inter is willing to let him leave for a good figure…”

This season Lautaro has made 31 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored 16 goals and provided a total of four assists for his teammates.

Inter Legend Luis Suarez: “Lautaro Martinez Could Help Inter Grow, Strange That Conte Doesn’t Play Eriksen”

Legendary Inter midfielder Luis Suarez believes that whilst Barcelona may be tempting, Lautaro Martinez should stick around at Inter.

In the past few weeks and months, Lautaro has been heavily linked with a switch to the reigning Spanish champions who have seemingly identified him as one of their top transfer targets for the Summer transfer window.

Lautaro has a €111 million release clause in his current contract with Inter, which runs until the end of June 2023, but reports have suggested that rather than pay the clause Barcelona are instead looking to do a player(s) plus cash deal for the highly rated 22-year-old, who Inter signed for circa €20 million in the Summer of 2018 from Racing Club.

“Barcelona are stronger than Inter but everything depends on the intentions and thoughts of the Argentine. He can help Inter get bigger and here he is practically certain of a place and has everyone’s trust in him,” he remarked in an interview with Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb.

“In my opinion Lautaro must play in order to make another leap in quality to become a great player. At Inter he can make that further leap in quality.

“He is still young and if in two years time he wants a change of scenery then it will be another matter. It is clear that Barcelona is tempting to everyone but he can play and perform consistently at Inter.”

Suarez, who was a pivotal part of the Grande Inter side of the 1960s, proceeded to discuss Christian Eriksen, who joined the club in the most recent January transfer window but has so far struggled to impress.

“Have I been disappointed? Yes. From what I saw he seemed like an excellent player but it is strange that a manager who wanted him bought does not let him play.

“He was brought in to make a difference to the team. It seems to me that he lacks a bit of character and aggression. He seems meek and calm. I hope I am wrong about him however he has so far disappointed many Nerazzurri fans.”

Fate Of Serie A Season Could Be Decided During The Course Of This Week

The fate of the 2019/20 Serie A season could well be decided in the coming week according to a report from the online edition of Milan based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Italian football federation (FIGC) medical commission is scheduled to meet on Wednesday and the aim of this meeting is to work out the protocol to be used as a guide for teams to return to training.

A meeting will take place on Thursday with the Italian football federation council to discuss the possibility of the season resuming but before anything can resume there must be a green light regarding the sanitisation of the team’s training grounds.

The result of Wednesday’s meeting will also be looked at on Thursday’s meeting and the Lega Serie A will also meet to discuss the possibility of the season resuming.

As things stand, it is hoped that teams will be able to make a return to training on May 4 and then resume playing games – most likely behind closed doors – a few weeks later but it remains to be seen how the situation with the virus develops.

UEFA Considering Finishing Champions League & Europa League Over 3 Week Period In August

European football’s governing body UEFA are continuing to seek a solution for how both the Champions League and Europa League can be concluded according to a report from British news outlet The Daily Express.

Both competitions were brought to a halt alongside the rest of football last month due to the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic and UEFA are seemingly desperate to find a solution that will allow both competitions to be completed.

One solution that they have come up with is playing out all the remaining fixtures in both competitions over a three week period in August but in order for this to be possible, domestic campaigns must be finished.

The report goes on to warn that a tight turnaround will however be required if this is the solution that UEFA go for to cause as little disruption to next season as possible.

This solution aside, other reports in the media have suggested the possibility of all matches from the quarter or semi finals being played in a single city.
