Barcelona Star Messi’s Salary Is Biggest Obstacle Inter Must Overcome

Lionel Messi’s enormous salary is the biggest obstacle that Inter would have to overcome if they wish to sign him according to a report in today’s print edition of Tuttosport.

The multi-time world player of the year has drawn several links over a move to Inter in the past few days with it understood that relations between him and Barcelona’s management have broken down.

The Argentine national team attacker currently earns €40 million a year and the report claims he is unlikely to accept anything less than €50 million a year. Such a salary would have an impact of around €90 million on the club’s budget.

The report does however go on to recall what happened the last time Inter broke the bank to sign a player in Ronaldo back in 1997. Upon signing the Brazilian, Inter’s income from the stadium, marketing and sponsors all rose and that would undoubtedly be the same if Messi did arrive.

Italian Football Clubs Disappointed By Latest Italian Government Decree

Clubs across Italy, particularly those at amateur level, are disappointed by the newest Italian government decree which came into force two days ago according to a report in today’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport.

Due to the financial damage that Coronavirus has already caused and could further cause, clubs were expecting to get a hand from the government but there are no specific measures relating to football in the decree.

The Italian football federation have estimated that if the season resumes the Serie A alone will lost €300 million and if it does not resume, they will lose around €500 million and this is all based on the assumption that television rights holders will pay their next instalment to clubs which is due in May.

If they do not, the damage will be greater and clubs also risk losing out on lots more cash when it comes to players loaned out with options to buy with reports suggesting many clubs are unlikely to take up options due to the current crisis situation.

The report goes on to conclude that clubs would like to see current rules relating to betting sponsorship lifted and a fund created to help everyone out.

Serie A Could Start At End Of May Or Start Of June After 3 Week Training Period Beforehand

The Serie A season could resume again at the end of May or start of June according to a report in today’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport.

Teams could be allowed to resume training from May 4 and they will require around three weeks to get back into the best condition they can before games resume on either May 31 or June 3, the report explains.

During the three week period before training resuming and matches then resuming, all going well, there will be plenty going on.

In the first week, players of all times will be medically checked out, they will then resume training in small groups and then they will return to matches.

The report from the Rome based newspaper goes on to suggest that clubs may even be able to resume training earlier but it will all depend on the details of the new Italian government decree.

The Italian government are expected to extend the measures currently in place until the beginning of May but just before the measures are lifted they could allow for certain businesses to re-open and some football club presidents are hopeful that they will also fall into the category.

Inter Striker Romelu Lukaku To Return To Milan Today

Romelu Lukaku will be back in Milan from day having spent time back in Belgium with his mother and son according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Belgian national team striker was one of seven players Inter allowed to return home due to the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic and he is now the third player to return with Gazzetta dello Sport having reported that Ashley Young and Christian Eriksen are both already back in Milan.

Marcelo Brozovic, Samir Handanovic, Victor Moses and Diego Godin are all expected to return to Milan in the coming days and everyone will be back by Easter Monday at the latest.

The report from the Milan based newspaper goes on to state that Lukaku could well make history this season if it resumes.

Lukaku has netted 23 goals across all competitions and is just four goals shy of tallying his personal best season for goals scored. With Inter having 13 league games and at least a few more games in other competitions still to play, there is a high chance that Lukaku will set a new record for himself if the season does resume.

Ex-Barcelona Director Braida On Inter Linked Messi: “I Don’t Think Messi Will Leave Barcelona”

Former Barcelona and AC Milan sporting director Ariedo Braida has reiterated his belief that Lionel Messi will not depart Barcelona amid links to Inter and other clubs.

In the past few days Messi has been linked with Inter with many reports in the Italian media speculating about how Inter could afford a deal for the multi-time world player of the year.

Braida believes that the time Messi has spent with Barcelona and the money he currently earns means he is unlikely to depart the Blaugrana club any time soon.

“I don’t think he can move from Barcelona. He is loved there, he’s been there since he was little, he can hardly leave them. He already makes a lot of money, I don’t think he’s going to leave,” Braida, who is currently out of work having left Barcelona in the middle of August last year, admitted in an interview with Italian radio station TMW Radio late last night.

Messi has spent his entire playing career on the books of the Nou Camp club and has made a total of 718 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored 627 goals and provided 261 assists.

Ex-Inter Defender Ferri: “Bastoni Can Reach The Top, Chiesa Is A Talent, I’m Willing To Sacrifice Myself For Messi”

In an interview with FCInter1908.it, legendary Inter defender Riccardo Ferri has shared his belief that Alessandro Bastoni can make it all the way to the top.

The young defender is in the midst of his breakthrough season at Inter this term and he has even kept the vastly more experienced Diego Godin, who is 14 years his senior, out the team for large spells of the campaign.

“There is no doubt about it that his qualities are very evident. He has a lot of personality and is also good at coming out of the defence with the ball at his feet. He is punctual and precise,” he began.

“When you are at Inter there is no time to grow slowly so you have to do everything quickly. Playing with quality players helps you to grow and Godin is certain to have helped him grow as well as the other members of the squad.

“In my opinion, Bastoni is already at a good level, even for the national team. He plays in a highly sought after role and he is left footed. I hope he makes it into the Italian national team. He is modest and humble and the foundations are there for him to reach the top.”

Next he went on to talk about Fiorentina’s Federico Chiesa and whether he thinks that the highly rated Italian winger would be able to play as a wing back in Antonio Conte’s 3-5-2 system.

“Chiesa is a player who can shift the balance in some games but he is missing some consistency. If he played as a wing back in Conte’s 3-5-2, he could guarantee a lot from an attacking point of view, although he must improve in the non-possession phase.

“I know that Conte wants a player who can give the same intensity in both phases of the game but there is no doubt that Chiesa is a talent.”

Ferri then went on to discuss former Inter president and owner Massimo Moratti’s recent comments on Lionel Messi and whether or not he thinks Inter could realistically sign Messi.

“They were very strong statements from a person very close to Inter. It is clear that when Moratti speaks he raises some dust. It is clear that if there was an opportunity to sign him, there would be a queue outside the Barcelona offices.

“Any coach would like to manage a player like him. Conte would get great satisfaction out of coaching Messi, even if he is a player who participates more in the build up in the opposition half and does less work in his own half.

“Despite not being very young, he seems to still be very well physically. He can still play at the highest level for the next three or four years.

“He is someone who, in addition to bringing many people to the stadium, can also bring other great players who may have otherwise doubted coming to Inter.

“When a team thinks as big as the Nerazzurri do, it’s right to try. He is a player loved by everyone for his prowess. There would need to be some big sacrifices from the club, maybe someone would need to be sold.

“If there is a need to sacrifice, I am willing to put myself on the transfer market too. Marotta and Ausillio know how to move on the transfer market.”

In conclusion, Ferri was asked about the possible departure of Lautaro Martinez, who continues to be linked with a move to Barcelona among a number of other clubs such as Manchester City.

“I have the utmost confidence in Marotta. I believe that all evaluations will be objectively made as always. If Messi were to come and someone like him had to be sacrificed there is no doubt that it would be worth it.”

Inter Facing Competition From Russian, Turkish & English Clubs For Olympiacos’ Tsimikas

Inter are facing increasing competition for the signature of Olympiacos defender Kostas Tsimikas according to a report from Italian news outlet PassioneInter.com.

Inter are understood to have identified the Greek national team full back as a potential addition to the squad ahead of the upcoming Summer transfer window and a number of reports have stated they were set to fight it out with fellow Serie A side Napoli for him.

This report states that Russian Premier League club Lokomotiv Moscow, Turkish Super Lig outfit Galatasaray and Premier League side Leicester City are all also interesting in adding him to their ranks.

It goes on to add that Leicester City are the only club of the three capable of competing financially with both Inter and Napoli for Tsimikas, who could cost somewhere in the region of €25 million.

This season he has made 37 appearances across all competitions to date in which he has provided seven assists for his teammates.
