Inter Back In For Napoli’s Dries Mertens

The forced stop of football has put Dries Mertens contract renewal with Napoli on the rocks and has allowed Inter to come back in for him according to a report in today’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport.

Prior to football having to come to a halt due to the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic, Mertens appeared destined to sign a contract extension with the Stadio San Paolo club but the current situation has put that on stand-by and has allowed Mertens a lot of time to think about his future.

Inter had shown an interest in bringing him in back in January and even made contact with his representatives to make their intentions clear but when it looked like Mertens was going to sign on again with Napoli, Inter cooled their interest but now they are back in for him as are Ligue 1 outfit Monaco.

This season the 32-year-old has notched 12 goals and six assists in 29 appearances across all competitions to date.

Former Inter President Massimo Moratti: “Having Barcelona’s Lionel Messi At Inter Is A Dream Of Mine”

Former Inter president and owner Massimo Moratti has once again shared his dream of seeing Lionel Messi play for Inter.

“Having Messi at Inter is my dream as a fan and only as a fan given I no longer control the club, I go to watch the matches as a fan,” he remarked in an interview with Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo.

“I have never talked about it with the new owners. I always liked Messi, it is true that when I was president I always followed him, but I repeat that now I speak as a fan, not as a director.”

He then went on to share his excitement about the prospect of Inter being able to have an attack consisting of Lionel Messi and Lautaro Martinez together.

“It would be pure magic. They are creative, quick, clean, play street football. Seeing them together would be incredible. I really like Lautaro. He is an important footballer who scores plenty goals and he is one of those players you never tire of seeing.”

Moratti then went on to share his views with regard to the possible resumption of the season, which is currently on hold due to the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic.

“Football is all about passion, joy and going to the stadium with the family. We must recover from this pandemic and ensure that our players recover too.

“Health is the thing that must come first. There is a lot of talk about football industry but football is firstly all about passion and if we push that away we will lose touch with the fans.

“Inter has always stood out for being a family, we have won and lost without losing touch with our fans. Now we are all working to beat the virus.”

Moratti bought a controlling stake in Inter back in 1995 from Ernesto Pellegrini and he would serve as the club’s president and owner for a period of 18 years, which was filled with plenty of trophies. He gave up his controlling stake to Indonesian tycoon Erick Thohir in 2013 and sold the remainder of his stake to Suning in 2016 once they took over.

Italian Report Claims Inter Are One Of Four Clubs Capable Of Taking Messi Away From Barcelona

Inter are one of few clubs on the planet who could perhaps prize Lionel Messi away from Barcelona according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

Messi currently has quite rocky relations with Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu due to the recent issue regarding wage cuts due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Whilst it may still seem like fantasy to imagine the Argentine departing the club he has spent his entire career, the report from the Milan based newspaper have highlighted that Inter, Manchester City, Paris Saint Germain and Juventus could all have the power to take him away from the Nou Camp.

The 32-year-old multi-time world player of the year, whose contract with the club expires at the end of next season, has made no less than 718 appearances across all competitions for Barcelona, in which he has scored 627 goals and provided 261 assists for his Blaugrana teammates.

PSG Decide They’ll Take Up Option To Buy On Loan Mauro Icardi From Inter

Paris Saint Germain have decided that they will take up their option to buy on loan striker Mauro Icardi according to a report in today’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport.

The 27-year-old Argentine joined the reigning French champions this past Summer on a season long loan and PSG can sign him up on a permanent basis for €70 million.

The report from the Rome based newspaper goes on to state that it remains to be seen if there actually is a clause which allows Icardi to veto any permanent move to PSG.

There have been contrasting reports in the media about its existence and Corriere dello Sport report that Icardi’s representatives claim it exists whilst Inter have denied its existence.

Whilst in the French capital, former Sampdoria player Icardi has made 31 appearances across all competitions to date. In almost 2000 minutes on the park he has scored 20 goals and provided four assists.

Fiorentina President Commisso On Inter Linked Castrovilli & Chiesa: “I Don’t Necessarily Have To Sell Them”

Fiorentina president and owner Rocco Commisso has insisted that the club are in a position where they do not need to sell any of their players if bids are to come in for them.

Several Fiorentina players have drawn links with moves elsewhere in recent weeks and months, none more so than midfielder Gaetano Castrovilli and winger Federico Chiesa.

Castrovilli, who has been one of the revelations of the Serie A season, has drawn links to both Inter and Roma whilst Chiesa has long drawn links to Inter and Juventus whilst reports have also linked him with clubs abroad too.

“Other clubs can’t touch any of them today. Castrovilli has a long contract with us and the same goes for Chiesa. I love good players and I don’t necessarily have to sell them,” Commisso remarked in an interview with Italian broadcaster SportItalia late last night.

This season Castrovilli has made 26 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored three goals and provided two assists.

Chiesa has meanwhile totalled 26 appearances across all competitions during which he has scored seven goals and tallied five assists.

Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri Among Inter Manager Antonio Conte’s Top Targets For The Summer

Emerson Palmieri is one of Antonio Conte’s top targets ahead of the upcoming Summer transfer window according to a report from Italian news outlet CalcioMercato.com.

Conte would like to revolutionise the wing back department and only Antonio Candreva, Ashley Young and Danilo D’Ambrosio are certain to still be with the club next season of the current crop.

Conte would like to bring in players who are tactically versatile and Palmieri is exactly that given he can play as a wing back or he can even play as a centre back too if so required.

The Chelsea defender will come far from cheap though the report warns and it states that Inter will need to move some of the current crop of wing backs on to free up space and raise funds to sign him.

This season Palmieri has made 18 appearances across all competitions in which he has provided a single assist in 1341 minutes.
