Inter Midfielder Borja Valero: “Lautaro Martinez Has A Great Future Ahead Of Him”

In an interview with Spanish newspaper AS, Inter midfielder Borja Valero has spoken on how he has been coping with the current situation and how he is getting on with the personalised training schedule he has been sent by Inter.

“Luckily I have the whole family with me at home and this always helps me. If I were alone at the moment it would be more complicated,” he began.

“We are following a basic plan that Inter sent us. They sent us a bicycle and other gym equipment to strengthen our body at home, in addition to the treadmill.

“For sure we will all notice a physical decline when we get back. It will be similar to when we return from vacation. In the meantime, we will try to lose as little condition as possible.”

He was then asked if he hopes the season will be resumed and then finished.

“I hope it will be concluded. This would mean that the most important problems, which are health problems, have been solved.”

Next he spoke on the fact his contract with Inter is due to expire at the end of the season.

“It is not known what will happen. When an administrative decision is made, I will talk to the club. I have been able to negotiate with other clubs from the start of January but these circumstances have upset everything.”

He then went on to insist that he does not want to give up playing despite now being 35-years-old.

“I really want to continue playing for at least one or two years. When I played this season I felt very comfortable. It is clear to me that I don’t want to quit.

“I was one of the best in the team in terms of physical data when I played and this was fundamental in me realising that I still want to play. I still enjoy myself and would like to continue having fun for another year or two.”

Valero proceeded to hit out at those responsible for taking so long to postpone football.

“We acted late regardless of that game. A player had to get sick for them to stop everything. This could have been avoided by stopping earlier.”

The former Fiorentina midfielder then went on to discuss Inter’s project.

“There is a great desire to bring Inter back to the top. Both the fans and the president and the manager are very enthusiastic about the project and this can also be seen from the type of players who the club are now looking to sign.”

He then went on to discuss what it has been like to work under former Italian national team manager Antonio Conte.

“He has a great competitive character and always wants to outdo himself. He is very demanding with himself and with everyone else, not only with the players. This makes the difference on the field.”

Valero also spoke on Inter striker Lautaro Martinez and tipped him for a bright future in football.

“I have a great relationship with him. I have been in Italy for eight years and the language is no longer a problem for me, but Lautaro came from Argentina very young speaking only Spanish, so from the beginning I have always been close to him helping him in every possible way. He has a great future ahead of him.”

Inter Midfielder Vecino: “Scoring That Goal Against Lazio Was An Important Moment For Me, Representing Inter Is Incredible”

Matias Vecino became the latest Inter player to hold a live question and answer session on the club’s social media channels earlier on today and he firstly spoke on what he is doing to occupy his time whilst football is off.

“We have to wait for this tricky situation to improve and we must respect the rules so that everything returns to normal. During these days, I spend a lot of time with my family, I train, we play cards, ping-pong and watch TV, I’m currently watching Vikings, it’s a bit different but I like it,” he started.

The Uruguayan national team midfielder then went on recall some of his decisive goals he has scored for Inter, such as the Champions League qualification clinching header against Lazio.

“It was an important moment for me because I was coming from a period when I had had some problems, and that goal made us end the season with a win that allowed Inter to return to the Champions League. That’s a memory I’ll never forget, the match was like a final: the adrenaline meant I didn’t sleep much that night.

“It was a bit different with Tottenham, but that was also another comeback as we had been 1-0 down; to score a goal like that in front of the fans was amazing.”

He then spoke on what it feels like to represent Inter: “Going out on the pitch wearing Inter’s shirt is an incredible feeling, the first time I experienced that was against Fiorentina, so I had to go up against my ex-teammates, and it was a special game that Inter won 3-0.”

Vecino then went on to discuss the importance of family to him and spoke on his roots: “For me, my family is everything. It gives me strength and incentive to try and improve myself every day, and I dedicate every goal I score to them.

“The people of Uruguay have a strong culture of hard work and sacrifice, we’re a small country with about three million citizens, but there are so many players from Uruguay who play for big sides. We’re capable of adapting a lot and this gives us strength.

“For us, mate is sacred! It’s a kind of bitter tea, it has a strong taste, but we’re used to it, it’s part of our tradition. It’s also made in Argentina but with different herbs, and in Paraguay it’s made with cold water.

“The garra charrua? The ‘charrua’ were the Indians who lived in the territories of Rio de la Plata, who rebelled and fought not to be colonised.

“This has been translated to use in football terms as a force, a spiritual path that allows you to keep fighting and never give up, as happened to the national teams that won two World Cups and 15 Coppa America; that’s the ‘mythology’ that belongs to the phrase.”

Vecino then went on to reveal there is a lot of work that goes into what he does on the field and discussed his relationships with fellow midfielders Borja Valero and Marcelo Brozovic.

“There’s a lot behind what we do on the pitch, from training to nutrition, like everyone I have ups and downs during the year, but being a dynamic player if I’m in good physical shape then my performances are better.

“I have had a teammate that’s been with me throughout my time in Italy, Borja Valero. He’s the guy I’ve spent the most time with in the world of football after three years together at Fiorentina and three years here, he also lives near me.

“Marcelo Brozovic? Marcelo is very strong, it’s true that he runs a lot, but I’d win. He’s unique, he’s nice and really funny.”

He then went on to share his desire to write his name into Inter’s history books.

“I hope I can make a mark here and be remembered in a group of players who have created Inter history. Obviously, you have to win some trophies to do that, and we’re working on that and hopefully we’ll succeed.”

In conclusion he revealed who he looked up to as a child and how Chinese fans support him every time he is in the country.

“My favourite player? I’ve always said Veron, who I followed as a kid; he was one of my idols.

“Since being here, I’ve been to China three times, both with the national team and with Inter and I was surprised because they have a great passion for football and Inter: I remember the airport was full of Nerazzurri fans.”

Official – Serie A Clubs & Italian PFA Agree Guidelines To Wage Cuts

Serie A clubs have voted unanimously in favour of wages being cut due to the global Coronavirus pandemic, Lega Serie A have confirmed.

All clubs barring Juventus cast a vote in favour of wages potentially being cut by up to a third to help mitigate the financial damage that Coronavirus has caused.

Juventus did not partake in the voting process having already reached an agreement of their own with their players that will see Bianconeri players not get a salary for the months of March, April, May or June, something which will reportedly save Juventus close to €100 million.

As per Serie A’s release, in the event that the 2019/20 season does resume, wages will be cut by a third but if the season does not resume wages will be cut by a sixth. It adds that it will be at the discretion of all 19 clubs to reach agreements with the players.

Inter Midfielder Radja Nainggolan Will Have To Accept A Wage Cut To Sign For Cagliari

Radja Nainggolan will have to reduce his wages if he wishes to remain with Cagliari past the end of this season according to a report from Italian news outlet CalcioMercato.com.

The Belgian midfielder is currently on loan at the Sardinian club on loan from Inter but his €4 million annual wages are a stumbling block to a permanent move taking place.

If able to convince Nainggolan to stay, the report goes on to state that Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini has come up with two ideas on how he can then reach an agreement with Inter.

The first idea would be to offer Nahitan Nandez in exchange for the 31-year-old whilst the second idea would be to waive the €25 million fee Inter are due them for Nicolo Barella in return for getting to keep a hold of Nainggolan.

Whilst back at the Rossoblu, Nainggolan has found his best form again and has scored five goals and tallied six assists in 24 appearances.

The report also states that Nainggolan could return to Inter and evaluate other offers.

Former Inter Director Paolillo: “UEFA’s Financial Fair Play System Needs To Be Reviewed”

In an interview with Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, former Inter director Ernesto Paolillo has shared his views on what sort of impact Coronavirus will have on football for the coming years.

“At least for a couple of years there will be greater attention not only to costs but also to the organisation of teams and staff, the number of employees and so on. Changes to sponsor revenues and television rights will be inevitable. The spending power of clubs will also be reduced,” he began the interview which appeared in today’s print edition of the newspaper.

He then went on to provide an estimate for how much values of transfers will drop by and for how long this will be the case: “I think by 20-30%, at least for the first two years and then we will see what will happen.”

Paolillo proceeded to discuss the issue of players potentially having their wages cut or at the very least suspended due to the financial impact that Coronavirus has caused.

“From an ethical and moral point of view, an agreement must be reached. High-level players remain privileged, with salaries not even comparable to those of the great majority of workers. The fact some do not understand that they have to make a contribution is quite absurd.

“The players have to give up something to help their clubs out and part of their contribution must go toward the less privileged leagues. Those who do not risk running out of money should think about those who currently do not have any money to take home.

“There is no central body that can find a framework solution and drop it from above. If we wait for clubs to show initiative it will highlight who is more sensitive to the issue and who is less so.”

He then went on to insist that there needs to be an agreement reached that is fair for everyone.

“I know and appreciate the president of the Italian players association, Damiano Tommasi. I am surprised at this idea of proceeding in no particular order. We need a fair agreement for all, which includes, and I repeat, solidarity with the lower leagues.”

In conclusion, Paolillo, who has not taken up a position in football since leaving Inter in 2012, was asked if the current Financial Fair Play system will have to be reviewed and modified given the current circumstances.

“Yes. First of all, virus or not, those rules were born with the aim of consolidating the balance sheets and lowering debt but they did not provide incentives for new investors. There is a need for everyone to lower their expenses, the main item of which is the amount of wages.”

Inter Will Only Let Barcelona Target Lautaro Martinez To Leave On Their Terms

Lautaro Martinez will only be allowed to leave Inter on Inter’s terms according to a report in today’s print edition of Tuttosport.

The 22-year-old striker has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona ahead of the upcoming transfer window and Inter will seemingly only allow him to leave in two ways.

The first way is if his €111 million release clause is triggered and the second is if Barcelona offer between €70-80 million plus two players Inter like.

Arturo Vidal, Nelson Semedo, Arthur, Philippe Coutinho, Antoine Griezmann, Carles Alena and Jean-Clair Todibo have all been mentioned in various reports as potential makeweights in any deal.

The report from the Turin based newspaper goes on to state that Barcelona are willing to give Lautaro Martinez a salary of €7-8 million per season whilst Inter would be willing to give him a new contract with an annual salary of around €4 million if he is to stay.

Agreement Over Salary Suspensions In Serie A Still Some Way Away

An agreement being reached over salary suspensions is still some way away according to a report in today’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport.

The Italian players association (AIC) met with Lega Serie A last week to hold talks but they were unable to come to any sort of agreement with both of their proposals some way apart from the other.

The AIC proposed that salaries should be suspended for a period of a month whilst Lega Serie A wanted salaries to be suspended until the Coronavirus crisis is over.

Juventus reached an agreement with their players that means they will not receive salaries for the months of March, April, May or June and it remains to be seen if a similar agreement could be reached league wide or if clubs will seek to make agreements of their own with their players rather than wait and see if an agreement can be reached between the Lega Serie A and AIC.
