AIC President Tommasi: “Coronavirus Will Determine The Decisions Made”

Damiano Tommasi, the president of the Italian players association (AIC), has insisted that Coronavirus will ultimately determine any decisions taken with regard to the possible resumption of the Serie A season and other seasons in Italy.

Football in Italy, just like pretty much every other country in Europe and the world, has been on hold for a number of weeks due to the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic and it remains to be seen whether the season will be able to resume.

Some clubs have as many as 13 league games left to play and due to the presence of the virus it has made it virtually impossible to make any decisions due to the uncertainty that it has brought.

There has been no shortage of suggestions made about how the season could be concluded but with UEFA setting a deadline of August 3 for competitions to be finished, the pressure is really on the federations to make decisions.

“It is one thing to say that we hope that there is the possibility for the season to resume, we are all hoping for this, but it is another thing to be aware about what is really required for the season to end,” he remarked in an interview with Italian newspaper Il Mattino di Padova.

“It will depend on the health conditions of the country and the measures that will have to be adopted from here until August. The institutions will outline the criteria but the choices will be determined by the virus.”

UEFA President Ceferin: “I’m Optimistic That Serie A Will Finish”

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has revealed that he is optimistic that football across the continent will resume and the seasons, even in the worst affected areas, will finish.

Football across Europe and pretty much the entire world is on hold due to the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic, a pandemic which has caused great disruption to everything, including football.

“I am optimistic that we will see the end of the Spanish league, I am optimistic that we will see the end of the Italian league, and I am optimistic in general. Of course, I cannot guarantee anything, I cannot promise anything,” he told Slovenian news outlet Ekipa.

Ceferin was then asked about whether Liverpool would be awarded the Premier League title if the season does not finish given they are so far ahead of their competition.

The current Champions League holders are not the only club in such a position in Europe and it can be presumed that Ceferin’s views on similar scenarios will be the same.

“I can’t see a way Liverpool could be left without a title. Theoretically it’s not all over, but practically Liverpool are on the verge of it.

“If it could not be played, it would still be necessary to announce the results in some way and then the champions should be determined.

“And of course, again I do not see a scenario in which that would not be Liverpool. I understand that fans will be disappointed if it happens in an empty stadium or even at a table, but I believe they will win the title in one way or another.”

In conclusion he was asked if European football’s governing body have plans in place for how league champions and final standings if leagues cannot be finished.

“No, we don’t. We are preparing for such scenarios, but we are not dealing with the details for now. At this point, we are fully committed to completing the competitions.”

Inter Interested In Barcelona Midfielder Rakitic Who Prefers A Return To Sevilla

Inter are one of a few clubs interested in signing Ivan Rakitic but the player wants to return to Sevilla according to a report from Spanish news outlet Sport.

Inter, AC Milan and Juventus are all believed to be interested and Barcelona particularly like the fact that Inter are keen as they could look to include Rakitic in a deal for Lautaro Martinez then.

With the Croatian midfielder only having just over a year left on his current contract, Barcelona are keen to offload him and hope to get a deal in place as soon as possible.

Rakitic would ultimately like to stay in La Liga and would like to return to Sevilla where he previously had a very successful spell but the report warns that Sevilla are not in a position where they can spend a lot of money.

This season the 32-year-old has made 31 appearances across all competitions, in which he has provided four assists for his Blaugrana teammates.

Intermediary For Inter & Chelsea’s Talks Over Giroud: “Giroud Could Stay With Chelsea For Another Year”

Vincenzo Morabito, an intermediary who was part of negotiations between Chelsea and Italian clubs over Olivier Giroud in January, has revealed that the Frenchman’s future is currently uncertain.

The 2018 World Cup winning striker drew strong links to both Inter and Lazio in the recent January transfer window but in the end no deal took place with one of the other intermediaries claiming it was all down to Chelsea and their inability to find a replacement.

Giroud’s contract with the Premier League club is due to expire at the end of this season and due to this, links to Inter and Lazio have resurfaced.

“Given that the seasons could be played in June and July, he could decide to stay at Chelsea for another year. However, everything is still uncertain, between the the end of April and the beginning of May the picture could be more complete,” Morabito explained in an interview with Italian news outlet CalcioMercato.it.

This season Giroud has seen a real reduction in his playing time with him having been limited to just 684 minutes on the field which have been spread across 13 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored three goals.

Italian Report Claims Inter & Torino Could Complete A Gagliardini – Izzo Swap This Summer

Inter and Torino could perform a swap deal involving Roberto Gagliardini and Armando Izzo in the upcoming Summer transfer window according to a report in today’s print edition of Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

Torino have renewed their previous interest in signing Gagliardini whilst Inter have developed an interest in signing Torino centre back Armando Izzo.

It is understood that Inter manager Antonio Conte deems Izzo to be the perfect addition for the defence given his ability to play in a three man back line.

Gagliardini joined Inter in the Summer of 2017 from fellow Serie A side Atalanta and made a promising start to life with the club but he has found himself slide down the pecking order this season and with it understood Inter are looking to invest in midfielders, he will only slide further down the pecking order.

The report does not specify if the clubs will do a straight swap or if one of the clubs will have to add some cash on top to make things equal.

Inter Owned Mauro Icardi Questioning Future With PSG

Mauro Icardi is questioning whether he wants to remain at Paris Saint Germain having lost his place in the team to Edinson Cavani in the weeks before football was stopped due to Coronavirus according to a report from French news outlet L’Equipe.

The 27-year-old joined PSG on a season long loan from Inter this past Summer and they can sign him up on a permanent basis for a sum of €70 million but Icardi is seemingly unsure about whether he would like to stay with them past the end of this season.

Icardi does not have the best of relationships with manager Thomas Tuchel and it is understood that his wife and agent Wanda Nara would like to return to Italy.

There are contrasting reports doing the rounds in the media at the moment with regard to PSG’s intentions for him with some reports stating they will sign him whilst others state they remain undecided.

The former Barcelona academy player has performed well during his time in the French capital with him having netted 20 goals in 31 appearances but it remains to be seen whether or not PSG will take up the option to sign him.

Inter Could Make Summer Transfer Window Move For William Carvalho

Inter could go back in for William Carvalho in the upcoming Summer transfer window according to a report from Italian news outlet CalcioMercato.com.

Inter had drawn no shortage of links to the Portuguese national team midfielder during his days with Sporting and having failed to live up to expectations at current employers Real Betis, he could end up on the market and Inter could move for him.

The 27-year-old is under contract with the Andalusia based club until the end of the 2022/23 season, who he has made a total of 52 appearance for since his arrival in the Summer of 2018.

This season the EURO 2016 winner, who is primarily a defensive midfielder but also capable of playing as a central midfielder or as a centre back, has been limited to just nine appearances across all competitions due to injury. In 708 minutes on the field he has failed to score any goals or provide any assists.

Mancini: “I Like Esposito But He Needs More Experience, Eriksen Could Be A Regista For Inter”

Former Inter and current Italian national team manager Roberto Mancini has admitted that Inter’s teen sensation Sebeastiano Esposito has caught his eye but still needs to get more playing experience.

“I like him, he has already played in the Chanpions League. He must gain experience but I like him. The more options that we have, the better it will be,” Mancini remarked in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia this afternoon.

Mancini then went on to speak on the importance of having versatile players available for Italy and mentioned two Inter players who are versatile.

“In this group of players, we have four or five players who are versatile like Stefano Sensi. I think having versatility is fundamental especially for the European Championship’s and the World Cup. We also have people like Barella and Pellegrini who can play many roles too.”

Mancini was also asked for his views on Inter’s January transfer window acquisition Christian Eriksen and where he thinks he should be played.

“Technically he could be a regista, I think he’s more of an offensive extension to Nicolò Barella or like Marcelo Brozovic. A good player like him can transform himself and play anywhere, even if I think he needs time to establish himself, the Italian league is not easy for anyone.”

Next he was asked which is the favourite derby he has either played in or managed throughout his career.

“The derbies are all beautiful, in Milan they played to be higher in the table while in Genoa and Rome they play for supremacy of the city but all of them are beautiful and exciting games.”

In conclusion he was asked if there are any favourites in the race to win the Serie A title.

“It is not an easy answer as something so unusual has happened. Juve remain at an advantage but if football resumes after a break, anything can happen.”

Mancini had two spells in charge of Inter and led the club to four Serie A titles, three Coppa Italia and two Supercoppa Italiana. He has been in charge of Italy since 2018.
