Italian Report Suggests AC Milan Consider Appointing Ex-Inter Coach Luciano Spalletti

German coach Ralf Rangnick is having doubts about taking over AC Milan, relaunching former Inter coach Luciano Spalletti as a candidate for the role, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The report details how Spalletti was considered by the Rossoneri after Gennaro Gattuso was dismissed at the end of last season, before former Sampdoria coach Marco Giampaolo was chosen to take over. The Tuscan born coach failed to reach an agreement with Inter with regards to resolving his contract, and so he is still being paid by the Nerazzurri.

Spalletti asked Inter for a lump sum of €25 million, including staff compensation, to be paid off, the report continues, with his contract expiring in 2021. A year later, the Tuscan coach may be willing to lower his request in order to take over at AC Milan and return to the world of football, according to the report.

Spalletti guided Inter to two 4th place finishes in the Serie A in his two seasons at the club.

Inter Could Save €20M On Wages Alone By Selling Diego Godin This Summer

Inter are considering selling Uruguayan defender Diego Godin in the summer, which could save the club around €20 million, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The report details how the 34-year-old veteran, who was previously a star at Atletico Madrid under Diego Simeone, has struggled to adapt to coach Antonio Conte’s three-man defensive set up this season.

The 20-year-old Italian Alessandro Bastoni has managed to push Godin out of the starting eleven on a number of occasions, showing how his stock has fallen in Milan.

The player has many fans in Europe, the report continues, which could benefit Inter greatly. Godin earns around €5 million net which translates to €10 million gross per season, and is contracted to the club until 2022, so selling him could save the Nerazzurri around €20 million in expenditure.

Given that Godin was signed on a free transfer, any transfer fee received would be added to the requirement of making capital gains. One club being touted as being interested in him is Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham.

Italian Report Highlights How Antonio Conte Has Improved Several Inter Players This Season

Alexis Sanchez Will Return To England As Inter Aren’t Interested In Signing Him Permanently

Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez will return to Premier League side Manchester United after his loan spell finishes with Inter, according to a report from Italian media outlet FcInterNews today.

The report details how the 31-year-old Chilean knows he will be returning to Manchester in the summer, as Inter are not looking to sign him permanently. There is no agreed upon fee between the two clubs and Sanchez’s €12 million wages are unthinkable for Inter. Whilst he will be returning to Manchester in the summer, he is not expected to feature for the Red Devils next season, the report continues. The club are looking for a new home for the player, difficult considering his high salary. Clubs in both the Bundesliga and England are interested in him, including West Ham, who have asked for more information.

Brighton Full Back Ezequiel Schelotto: “Massimo Moratti Told Me I’d Be In Inter’s History For My Derby Goal”

Brighton full back Ezequiel Schelotto discussed his career and time at Inter in an interview with Italian journalist Nicolò Schira on Instagram today. His words were noted by Italian media outlet FcInterNews.

“They gave me my nickname after my audition at the Banfield youth academy. I was 12 years old, as soon as I picked up the ball I ran like crazy, overtaking two or three players and they told me I was a greyhound, a galgo in Spanish.”

The 30-year-old discussed the ongoing Coronavirus emergency.

“I am spending the quarantine in England with my wife Gisela and daughter Isabela. In negativity I have fun with my daughter, we play together, she runs everywhere. She’s faster than me now. In my spare time I love to cook, I like to make asado barbecues. I’m a normal person and in housework I like to give my wife a hand.”

He touched on the best player he has ever played alongside.

“I’d say Antonio Cassano. I had him at Inter and Parma. An exceptional technical quality. I’ve seen him do incredible things and he made me score a lot of goals. Antonio always said to me, ‘Galgo, you don’t have to worry about the ball, you just have to run and then I’ll get you the ball’. He played the ball where it flew like in a Milan-Parma when we won 4-2 at the San Siro. He had a crazy game reading, no look assists. Cassano was incredible and he helped me a lot in the first months at Inter, I can’t tell you the laughs he gave me. One joke after another.”

He then revealed who his toughest opponent was.

“Andrea Pirlo, impressive his talent. A great player that had an extraordinary vision of the game. He found his teammates with his eyes closed, great class that made all the fans fall in love.”

Schelotto discussed his time under coach Diego Simeone at Catania.

“I had Cholo in Catania as a coach, a great coach. He was very young but you could see at the time that he would become an important coach. A tough, tough man who gave me a lot. He would be perfect in a few years’ time for the Argentine national team.”

The Brighton full back spoke about his time with the Nerazzurri.

“I played at Atalanta, but how could I say no to a great team like Inter? I still remember the excitement of the first days in the locker room with those champions. People like Zanetti, Cambiasso, Milito, Stankovic who had won the Treble and me, a 23-year-old, who had never played at the highest level. I didn’t feel pressure, unfortunately I had little room. In 4 months, it becomes difficult to make a difference, especially in a team that has problems and struggles with results. Then in the summer there was the change of club and coach that changed my destiny. It’s a shame because I had a good relationship with Stramaccioni. The perfect night was the derby. First ball touched and a goal. I still remember President Moratti at the end of the game who congratulated me and told me that I would stay in Inter history for that goal. I tattooed the date of the derby goal on my right arm (24 February 2013). It was the most important goal of my career, there isn’t a day that some Inter fan doesn’t tell me that.”

He spoke about Inter’s current coach, Antonio Conte.

“In addition to Inter, Juve also wanted me in January 2013. Conte liked me a lot, but the pressure of my fellow Nerazzurri Italians made the difference.”

Schelotto spoke about Inter legend Javier Zanetti.

“An extraordinary person, I wish him the best. He was one of my points of reference. Playing together was a pride. I’ve known him since 2010, after the Treble with Cesena we scored a promotion and he sent me a message of congratulations. It was crazy that he thought of a boy who played in Serie C. In 2012 he was disqualified and so he sent me his autographed jersey at the hotel, since we couldn’t exchange it on the field. His presence was fundamental in making me choose Inter.”

He spoke about his change from Inter to Chievo Verona.

“All summer long I wanted to stay in Verona. A city where I felt good, I played as a starter and there were all the prerequisites to stay. Inter and Chievo were negotiating a Zukanovic-Schelotto exchange, but after weeks of meetings the deal was off. My biggest regret is that I had to cancel the deal with Inter even though I still had another two years on the contract. I was misguided by those who represented me at the time. I’ve regretted it many times. Even if I wasn’t part of the plan I should have resisted, maybe I would have had a chance.”

The 30-year-old discussed all the football shirts he currently owns.

“I have all mine from every season plus those of Zanetti, Totti, Cassano, Ibra, Ronaldinho, Kakà. Cristiano? I don’t have Ronaldo’s, a good reason to come back.”

The Brighton full back spoke about Inter captain Samir Handanovic.

“He was very strong, never a word out of place. No wonder the career he had and the captain’s armband at Inter. He deserves it.”

Finally, Schelotto gave a starting eleven of the best players he has ever played with in his career.

“Handanovic in goal, me on the right and Zanetti on the left. Central defenders, Walter Samuel and Coates. Cambiasso, Parolo and Cigarini in midfield but Stankovic deserves it too. We had a big fight in an Inter-Atalanta game, but then we became great friends. In front, Cassano on the left, with a striker like Bas Dost even if Denis, Milito and Maxi were great too. To complete the trident Giaccherini.”

Bayern Munich President Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: “Here In Germany We All Agree That We Must Finish The Season”

Bayern Munich president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge highlighted the German club’s desire to finish this season in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Spanish newspaper AS.

“UEFA have criticised the Belgian league, in my opinion with good reason, for declaring the season over. Here in Germany, however, we all agree, the 36 clubs have decided to finish the season, even if will be after 30th June for political or health reasons. The national leagues have priority over the cups, this was decided by UEFA.”

Rummenigge then praised the work of the German football federation and how the current situation is forcing clubs to stick together to survive.

“The Football Federation is handling the problem pretty well. President Seifert is doing exemplary work. Everything is happening in a harmonious, supportive and fair manner. In this situation it is essential that the strongest support the weakest, we are all aware of this. In this respect, the 20 million euros that the four participants in the last Champions League made available to everyone must be seen, we met in Düsseldorf at a time when it was still possible to travel. We wanted to set an example of solidarity and, finally, we chose to take this measure. Now we have to wait and see how things evolve.”

The Bayern Munich president also touched on how the Bavarian club are working through the uncertain financial waters.

Of course, I think there is an opportunity to emerge from the crisis in financial terms. At the level of Bayern Munich, we are a financially sound company. We still have to distribute television funds which, at the moment, we do not know if they will be distributed and in what way. There is also a lack of revenue from ticket sales and merchandising. Of course, we have a great advantage from ours, turnover and profit have been the engines of football until recently. Now we are realising that the most important factor is liquidity.”

Finally, Rummenigge discussed how FIFA need to step in and find a solution for the fact that players’ contracts will expire on 30th June, before the end of the postponed season.

“As for contracts expiring in June, the market will have to be adapted. With Perisic, Coutinho and Odriozola, we have three players expiring on June 30th. In the event that the season continues beyond that date, it is up to FIFA to find a solution that ensures that they can finish the league with their respective clubs. Otherwise, it would distort competition.”

The Coronavirus emergency has forced leagues around Europe, including Serie A and the Bundesliga, to be postponed until it is deemed safe to play. The virus, which has caused tens of thousands of deaths worldwide, is likely to have reaching financial implications, including in football, with many clubs across the continent now looking to suspend their players’ salaries until the season is restarted.

Ex-Racing Youth Coordinator Fabio Radaelli On Inter Striker Lautaro Martinez: “I Saw Him & After 30 Minutes I Understand Everything”

Former Racing youth coordinator Fabio Radaelli, who discovered Inter striker Lautaro Martinez, discussed his relationship with the Argentine forward and how impressed he was by the youngster in an interview with Italian media outlet PassioneInter.com today.

First, he discussed what surprised him most about Lautaro when he saw him as a youngster.

“What struck me about Lautaro Martinez was his ease with both feet and his aerial play. I watched him and in just over thirty minutes I had already understood everything. His technique immediately caught my attention.”

Radaelli was not shocked by the Argentine striker’s impact on European football.

“I can never be surprised by what he’s doing, nor will I be surprised by what will happen to him in the world of football. For me he’s a guy who has no limits, he’s a first-class footballer, he’s ready for anything.”

He refused to discuss whether Lautaro would join Barcelona or remain with Inter in the summer.

“It is not for me to comment on the choices he will make for his future. The only thing I can say is that wherever he goes to play he will always do well, because he is a top player.”

The former Racing youth coordinator revealed that he was still in contact with the player.

“Every now and then we talk, a relationship of respect and mutual recognition unites us.”

Finally, Radaelli discussed other young Argentine talents that may be ready to break into European football.

“The clubs that contact me do it because they know I have the skills to find these kinds of players. Some young people need to grow up in football, they are rough diamonds. My work can economically capitalise on the club I work with, and luckily I was able to do it with Cadetes de Mar del Plata, Tigre, Racing de Avellaneda, and I hope I can also do it in Aldosivi, where I currently coordinate amateur football.”

Lautaro, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2023, has made 31 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2437 minutes. In that time, he has scored 16 goals and provided four assists.
