Cristiano Zanetti: “Inter Must Sign 3/4 Important Players To Get On Par With Juventus”

Former Inter midfielder Cristiano Zanetti has shared his belief that his former club are only a few players away from closing the gap with arch rivals Juventus.

Juventus have reigned supreme over Italian football for nearly an entire decade and have won trophy after trophy with relative ease.

Inter and other Serie A clubs are understandably keen to end the Bianconeri’s monopoly and Zanetti, who also played for Juventus, believes that with three maybe four new players Inter would be able to at least compete on a par with them.

“When you look at the money they pay their players, there is no comparison between Juventus and others in Italy. Inter tried to keep up with them but failed and whilst Lazio are having a sensational season, the level of their squad is very different,” he remarked in an interview with vocegiallorossa.it.

“Conte is doing a great job at Inter but in order to get on a par with the Bianconeri, they must sign another three or four important players.”

Zanetti had two spells with Inter, the first came in 1998 and the other between the years 2001 and 2006. Zanetti made a total of 144 appearances across all competitions for the club in which he scored three goals and provided two assists. During his time with Inter he won one Serie A title and two Coppa Italia.

Victor Blanco, the president of Racing Club, has revealed that Inter striker Lautaro Martinez rejected a move to Real Madrid as an 18-year-old.

Blanco’s revelation comes amid reports in the media that have linked Lautaro with a move to Los Blancos but one report has also suggested that they have withdrawn their interest in signing him due to not wanting to sell any currently registered non-EU players to make way for him.

“The money on offer was not small but he very much knew what he wanted. He did very well for the club and he has always behaved in an exemplary manner. His growth has been dizzying.”

Lautaro joined Inter in the Summer of 2018 in a circa €20 million deal and has really kicked on this season alongside Romelu Lukaku in the Inter attack which has led to a whole array of clubs sparking an interest in signing him.

This season the 22-year-old sensation has made 31 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored 16 goals and provided four assists for his Inter teammates.

Ivan Zamorano: “Juventus & Bayern Were Courting Me & Then Moratti Came In & I Was Convinced To Go To Inter”

In an interview with former Argentine national team player Juan Pablo Sorin, former Inter player Ivan Zamorano has revealed why he decided to give up the number nine shirt when Il Fenomeno Ronaldo joined the Nerazzurri in 1997.

Zamorano gave up the number nine jersey and then famously took on the 1+8 shirt number afterwards and he explained: “I gave up the number nine shirt for friendship and for solidarity. For me Il Fenomeno deserved to have that shirt number. He was the best striker in the world.

“I had never had another number on my shirt other to number nine so I had to ask for special permission to play with 1+8. In fact, I played a few games with the number 18 and then added the plus sign. That shirt became one of the best selling in the history of Italian football.”

In the interview which was shared on Sorin’s official Instagram channel, Zamorano then spoke on something he had to do whilst at Inter.

“I had be smart to know how to strengthen my weaknesses. Great teams need players who are hard workers and this was one of my biggest strengths.”

The former Chilean national team forward then discussed how his nickname ‘the helicopter’ came about.

“It came when I was playing in Switzerland. In one of the games I played I scored four goals, including one with my head. The next day the newspapers called me ‘the helicopter’ because I spent so much time in the air to score the header.”

In conclusion Zamorano revealed that prior to joining Inter, he could have ended up at the Nerazzurri’s arch rivals Juventus.

“I was going to stay at Real Madrid but Juventus and Bayern Munich appeared and they courted me. Then Moratti came in for me. He wanted to make Inter great and I was convinced to go to Inter where I spent five wonderful years.”

Zamorano joined Inter in the Summer of 1996 and would go on to make a total of 150 appearances in the Nerazzurri shirt, in which he scored 41 goals and provided a single assist for his teammates.
