FIGC Could Cancel All Levels Of Youth Football Due To Coronavirus Pandemic

Inter youth teams’ seasons could be cancelled entirely due to the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic according to a report in today’s print edition of Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

A number of youth team seasons have already been cancelled entirely in Italy due to the pandemic but both Primavera divisions as well as the under 18 league remain on hold, just like Serie A, although the Italian football federation (FIGC) would appear set to cancel all football at youth level.

The report goes on to state that there is still a slight glimmer of hope that the seasons could resume due to the fact there is TV rights money at stake and things like title winners and who will participate in European youth tournaments such as the UEFA Youth League.

Football in the country has been on hold for a few weeks now and will be on hold for a further 10 days at the very least given the current government measures that are in place.

Inter could potentially play more games than any other team in Europe in the event that the current season resumes, a report in today’s print edition of Tuttosport has highlighted.

AIC Vice President Calcagno: “We Have To Get Back Playing, We Owe It To Ourselves & To Football”

In an interview with Corriere dello Sport, Umberto Calcagno, the vice president of the Italian players association (AIC), has revealed that members want the season to resume.

Football across the country is currently on hold due to ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic and it remains a mystery as to whether or not it will resume.

“We have to get back to playing, we owe it to ourselves and to football. We will do our part but the players cannot pay the bill,” he began the interview which appeared in today’s print edition of the Rome based news outlet.

“When will we be back on the field? We cannot know, but we have the responsibility to work every day to create the conditions to resume the season and to finish it. This is what we are doing with FIFpro, the world players union, which is the interlocutor of FIFA and UEFA, to understand what technicalities to adopt to plan for next season too.”

He was then asked whether or not the players themselves wish to return playing and finish the current seasons.

“Yes. It is a matter of responsibility for the sports system. If it is not possible, it will only be because of the emergency but we hope to get out of the crisis soon, when we return to talk about football being played it will be an important signal for the country.”

He was then asked if he thinks it is possible for the model Juventus have adopted when it comes to player salary suspensions to be used across the board.

“At Juve there is no contract expiring at the end of June. In any case remember that it is difficult to find a synthesis even within the same team. There are uneven situations.”

Next he went on to reveal what the AIC are looking to see changed.

“We would like resources to be distributed in a new way given that we are the most inequitable system in Europe. There are imbalances within Serie A and between Serie A and other leagues with the current distribution which was established by the Melandri law.

“For this reason we want a solidarity fund set up. 10% of gross monthly salaries must be given up to protect those on the lowest incomes and I think of those who are at the federal minimum wage but also female footballers and five-a-side, who are de facto professionals because they live for football. Structural reform is needed, not just a temporary solution to an emergency.”

In conclusion he was asked what he has made of some Serie A presidents wanting to see the season stopped due to the virus.

“Only the virus can determine whether the season will end. I dare not think about the number of appeals that could be made.”

Scout Who Discovered Inter’s Lautaro Martinez: “Lautaro Is A Very Intelligent Player, He’s A Mix Of Esnaider & Milito”

Fabio Radaelli, the scout who discovered Inter striker Lautaro Martinez, has shared his belief that Lautaro Martinez would be a good teammate for Lionel Messi at Barcelona.

The Spanish powerhouses have been strongly linked with making a move for him for some time now with there being reports in the media almost daily about how they intend to try and sign him.

“To play with Messi you need to be smart and Lautaro is a very intelligent player. You have to be very careful about what he does because at any moment he can give you an incredible ball,” he remarked in an interview with Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo.

“Lautaro can be a great number nine alongside Messi, he has characteristics that fit perfectly for Leo’s game. Inside the box, for example, he is the same as Suarez in terms of his opportunism and sense for scoring goals.”

Radaelli was then asked about Lautaro’s adaption to playing in the Argentine national team, who he has scored nine goals for in 17 appearances.

“It is only logical that this is the case, Lautaro is 22-years-old and he is already among the great players. There is talk of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester City being interested and previously Borussia Dortmund were mentioned. Lautaro is an animal and Messi knows how to choose teammates.

Radaelli went on to compare Lautaro to two former Argentine national team players, one of whom is a former Inter player and he also revealed something that he is unsure of about Lautaro.

“He is a mix between Juan Esnaider and Diego Milito. I remember when I first seen him I asked myself if he was naturally left or right footed as he controlled and played the ball with both and that remains the same today. After watching him for 10 minutes I realised he was a particular kind of player.”

This season Lautaro has made 31 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored 16 goals and provided four assists for his teammates.

UEFA Vice President Uva: “Every Decision Taken Will Have Public Health As A Basic & Binding Principle”

UEFA vice president Michele Uva has confirmed that public health will be at the forefront of each and every decision which European football’s governing body make.

Football across the continent is on hold and some leagues have even decided to stop the season entirely due to the global Coronavirus pandemic and Uva has insisted that UEFA are doing what they can to help out during these unprecedented times.

On top of domestic competitions, it remains to be seen what will happen with the Champions League and the Europa League, with both competitions requiring teams to travel between countries, something which is particularly difficult at this time.

“Every decision that will be taken will have the public health as a basic and binding principle,” he remarked in an interview with Milan based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, an interview which appeared in today’s print edition.

“We are particularly pleased to have managed to find a path shared with the 55 federations, with the ECA, the European leagues and the players.

“We are trying to help the federations, leagues and clubs to resume the seasons by inserting the European cups in the middle.

“It’s not our first alternative to play the leagues first and then the cups but the reasoning must take into consideration that the various competitions might resume at different times, depending on the respective governments’ decisions.”

Uva then went on to confirm that clubs can still play possibly play in European cups this season even if their domestic season ends up being stopped.

“If the season is not played due to a government decree, that’s one thing. If there is the possibility to train and play but the season has been suspended, a club can still participate in the cups.”

Inter Wing Back Antonio Candreva: “I’d Like To Win Silverware With Inter”

Inter defender Antonio Candreva became the latest player to participate in a live question and answer session which was broadcast across Inter’s social media channels earlier on today and he started by discussing Coronavirus and the impact it has had on things.

“We’re experiencing a really tough time, we all hope it’ll end as soon as possible, but it’s still a serious situation and it’s important to stay at home and to respect the rules so that we can get back to normal as soon as possible.

“We have a unique kind of job, so we’re not used to spending our day-to-day lives with our families except during the summer breaks, this is certainly a positive to take from this situation, seeing my son grow up each day is beautiful.

“We’ll come out of this stronger than before because there are things that we take for granted in our ‘normal’ lives, like taking a walk in the park. Now we’ll be able to realise the importance that they hold.

“I don’t talk about my private life much, my father has been fighting against something awful for a year and so right now I’m embracing him even if I can’t be physically close to him.”

Candreva then went on to discuss the things he is missing due to Coronavirus and what it means to him to be an Inter player.

“I miss football so much, I also miss the day-to-day things about training, joking about with my teammates, the emotions of playing games, the fans.

“There are so many emotions that you experience in an Inter shirt, playing at San Siro in a stadium constantly full of fans who have always supported us is something incredible, I hope to experience that on plenty of occasions to come and obviously I’d like to lift a trophy.”

The former Lazio player then went on to speak about what he thinks the best goal he has scored in an Inter shirt has been.

“My best goal? For me my first was a significant one to me. I scored in the Milan derby, it was a goal that I remember with such pleasure, just like the one I scored against Lecce.

“When you score a goal like that in front of your fans on the opening day of the league it’s incredible, it felt like I was set free, it was a unique kind of joy.

“On the pitch the thing I like most is winning, when we win, it brings confidence and we can celebrate, winning makes everything easier, even training sessions the following week.”

Candreva then went on to speak about Inter manager Antonio Conte and what it has been like to work under him again.

“The manager is a man of few words, but what he does say always goes straight into your head. For him the fundamental concepts are hard work and self-sacrifice for the team, he’s been the most important coach in my career and I only have good things to say about him.

“This great family has been home to some of the greatest champions over the years, and being part of it and wearing this shirt fills me with pride, I’m honoured to wear it and I respect it every time I step out onto the pitch.”

Candreva then went on to discuss what he is doing at home whilst the Italian government restrictions remain in place.

“We’re an active family, we’re not couch potatoes and we like exercising, Allegra is very sporty herself, it’s nice to have someone else in the house with such an athletic spirit. During the day we joke around, train, spend time with our son and come up with things to do all together.

“My favourite dish is Amatriciana, we’re eating well at home, we haven’t had any unhealthy meals. Except on Sundays when we eat pizza, but it’s wholemeal! My favourite song? Ragazzo Fortunato by Jovanotti, but it’s better if I don’t sing it.”

Candreva concluded the interview by looking back on his career as a whole and why he wears the number 87 on the back of his shirt.

“My professional debut came for Ternana against Empoli, I was playing for the youth teams and the coach then took over the First Team for a bit and decided to give me my debut at the Castellani, I was very young at the time.

“I was born as an attacking midfielder, I always preferred the freedom of that position, but when you grow up in a team there are so many rules to respect, playing on the wing gave me a chance to grow and to have some consistency over the years.

“I really like my position this year in the 3-5-2, you have to be careful in defensive phases and cause problems when you attack. I’ve never had an idol, but I’ve always liked the class and elegance of players who play at number 10.

“I’ve always chosen 87 as my shirt number, the year I was born, ever since I arrived at Lazio. I had an important time there, I found consistency and it was a decisive step in my career, because it gave me the chance to come to a great club like Inter, to have the luck of wearing this shirt. I feel good now, I’ve got a lot of enthusiasm and desire to push myself, I’m still expecting a lot to come.”

Italian Report Claims Inter Could Make A Summer Move For Sassuolo’s Jeremy Boga

Inter management are waiting for the green light from manager Antonio Conte before pursuing a potential Summer transfer window move for Sassuolo’s Jeremie Boga according to a report from Italian news outlet CalcioMercato.com.

Boga has been a real standout for Sassuolo during the course of this season and has drawn links with a number of other clubs as a result.

Inter management are reportedly keen on signing him and could look to make the most of the good relations that they have with Sassuolo to sign him but before they pursue a move they are waiting on Conte to give his blessing.

Napoli have also been linked with Boga and have already been in contact with Sassuolo over a possible move that could cost in the region of €25-30 million, the report explains.

This season the 23-year-old, who is also understood to be on Roma’s radar, has made 25 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored eight goals and provided four assists.

Inter Won’t Let Lautaro Martinez Leave Unless Release Clause Is Paid

Inter are adamant that they will not let Lautaro Martinez depart the club unless his €111 million release clause is met according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

The highly rated 22-year-old Argentine national team forward’s release clause is only active for the first two weeks in July meaning any interested clubs will have very little time to get things done.

Barcelona and Manchester City have both strongly been linked with the former Racing Club player and the report insists that Inter will not grant any discounts under any circumstances.

It has been widely reported that Barcelona want to do a player(s) plus cash deal for Lautaro Martinez but this report would suggest Inter will not entertain such a move.

This season Lautaro, who is under contract with Inter until the end of the 2022/23 season, has made 31 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored 16 goals and provided four assists.
