FIFA Ready To Give €1 Billion In Help To Clubs & Leagues During Coronavirus Crisis

World football’s governing body FIFA look set to step in to help clubs out across the world who have been financially impacted by the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic according to a report in today’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport.

Football has been hit extremely hard by the pandemic with football forced to stop in almost every corner of the world for safety reasons. With no football taking place clubs are losing money as are leagues and federations and it remaining unclear if football will return at all this season given the situation.

The report explains that FIFA are ready to share a sum of €1 billion amongst their federations and it is understood that Juventus and the European Club Association president Andrea Agnelli’s letter to FIFA president Gianni Infantino was decisive in FIFA considering this action.

However, before the money can be shared out, the idea must go past the 36 members of the FIFA board.

Sassuolo Striker Caputo: “It’s Difficult To Answer What I’d Do If Conte & Inter Came In For Me”

Sassuolo striker Francesco ‘Ciccio’ Caputo has revealed he is not willing to entertain the possibility of being reunited with former manager Antonio Conte at Inter until any sort of offer is made.

Caputo worked under Conte during his infancy in club management at Bari and in an interview with Milan based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, which appeared in today’s print edition, he was asked what he would do if Conte came calling for him.

Inter have not drawn any sort of links to Caputo in recent weeks or months but have drawn links to a number of older strikers such as Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud as they look to bolster their attack.

“It is difficult to answer what I would do because I am happy at Sassuolo. Before I think about it, an offer would have to arrive,” he remarked.

The 32-year-old forward has been on the books of his current employers since this past Summer and he has been in fine form this term having netted 13 goals and tallied four assists in 24 Serie A games to date.

Inter Paid €32M In Agent Fees During 2019 Transfer Windows

Inter paid agents close to €32 million during the duration of 2019 according to a document published by the Italian football federation (FIGC).

Inter paid a total of €31,819,411,33 to agents during January 1 and December 31, the second most of all Serie A clubs, who gave agents a total of €187 million.

Reigning Italian champions Juventus paid the most of all Serie A clubs as they gave agents of players no less than €44.3 million in total. Roma gave the third most as they gave agents a total of €23.2 million.

Inter’s city rivals AC Milan meanwhile paid out a sum of €23 million to agents and the likes of Atalanta, Napoli, Fiorentina and Lazio all paid out under €10 million each to player agents as part of transfer deals they conducted in the winter and Summer windows.

The FIGC document also highlights that Brescia paid the lowest sum to agents with them paying just over €500,000 during the above time frame.

Italian PM Conte: “Training Sessions Banned Until April 13”

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has confirmed that clubs cannot have their players train until at least April 13 as part of new measures brought in to help in the fight against Coronavirus.

Football and all other forms of sporting activity have been on hold in Italy for a number of weeks now due to the ongoing global pandemic and the huge impact it has had on Italy.

Measures were originally in place preventing sporting activity taking place until April 4 but in a press conference earlier on this evening at Palazzo Chigi, he confirmed measures have been extended until April 13.

It is understood that there are some clubs who have been pushing to get their players back into training, especially Lazio via their president Claudio Lotito, whilst a number of other clubs are of the belief that there will be no more of this season played due to the situation.

“We have introduced a minimal change in the new decree which proposes the extension of the containment measures for Covid-19 until April 13,” Conte stated.

“We are suspending training sessions to avoid clubs from seeking sporting performances in the shape of training.

“Training in sports facilities is not allowed. This does not mean athletes cannot train but they will have to do it individually.”

Barcelona’s Junior Firpo Open To Moving To Inter As Part Of Deal For Lautaro Martinez

Junior Firpo is open to joining Inter as part of a deal that would send Lautaro Martinez to Barcelona according to a report from Italian news outlet CalcioMercato.com.

The Spaniard only joined Barcelona this past Summer in a circa €20 million deal from Real Betis but Barcelona are seemingly keen to offload him after he failed to live up to expectations in his first season with the club.

The Blaugrana club are said to be extremely keen on signing Lautaro from Inter but rather than pay the €111 million release clause in his contract, Barcelona wish to do a player plus cash deal for him and that player could well be Firpo, who is a four time Spain under 21 international.

Inter want to make as much money as possible from the highly rated 22-year-old striker and it is unclear what they make of the idea of acquiring Firpo as a makeweight in any potential deal.

Intermediary For Inter & Chelsea Talks Over Giroud: “Chelsea Couldn’t Find A Replacement & That’s Why He Didn’t Join Inter”

Luca Antonini, an intermediary in the negotiations between Inter and Chelsea over Olivier Giroud in the recent January transfer market has explained why no move ever happened in the end.

Reports at the time suggested that Inter had already agreed terms with both Chelsea and the player himself over a move and they also suggested it was Inter who had pulled out of the move but Antonini says it was in fact Chelsea who were behind the potential deal collapsing.

“The deal did not get completed because of Chelsea. They had to find a replacement before letting Giroud go but couldn’t find a suitable player and this is why Inter couldn’t sign him,” he remarked in an interview with Italian news outlet CalcioMercato.com.

Antonini was then asked if he thinks Giroud could end up at Inter in the Summer.

“The future cannot be known. Due to the Coronavirus situation we are talking about everything except the market. At this moment none of us want to start negotiations. There are people who are sick, who are dying every day, and honestly it is not very nice to think about this kind of thing at this time.”

He proceeded to heap praise on Giroud’s professionalism through all of this.

“Giroud is an exemplary, incredible professional and he has not said anything bad about the club or his manager. When he has been called upon he has delivered three goals.

“He is a player with lots of professionalism and Conte knows that bringing in a player of his experience can be an added value in an already very important team.”

This season Giroud has found playing time particularly hard to come by at the Premier League club. The 33-year-old has made just 13 appearances across all competitions to date and has only been on the pitch for a total of 684 minutes in which he has scored three goals.

Chelsea’s Hopes Of Signing Lautaro Martinez From Inter Have Risen

Chelsea’s hopes of being able to sign Lautaro Martinez from Inter in the coming months have risen according to a report from British news outlet The Sun.

Chelsea’s hopes have been boosted after the highly rated 22-year-old’s agent Beto Yaque recently confirmed that he has not held talks with any clubs over the potential transfer of his client.

Martinez has been heavily linked with a transfer to Barcelona, who seemingly see him as their number one transfer target, and he has also been linked to their arch rivals Real Madrid too.

Upon learning Inter will not let him go for anything less than his release clause of €111 million, Manchester United dropped their interest and Chelsea are now the Premier League club that are most interested in signing the Argentine national team forward.

This season Lautaro, who is under contract with Inter until 2023, has made 31 appearances across all competitions, in which he has scored 16 goals and provided four assists.
