Italian Players Association: “Players Know They Have A Part To Play”

The Italian players association (AIC) have revealed what was discussed at their weekly meeting in a press release and have shared their desire to see the current season concluded.

Football across Italy, like all other forms of sporting activity, has been on hold for a number of weeks due to the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic and it remains a complete mystery as to when the season will resume, if at all.

“The moment is delicate and the recent comments by Minister Spadafora suggest close of business is still a few weeks away.

“With that in mind, and in light of the agreement between Juventus players and their club, the conclusion of the campaigns and timings were discussed.

“From Serie A to the non-leagues, the hope is, providing it’s safe to do so, to complete the season, even if it exceeds June 30.

“The conditions for resuming footballing activity must take place under conditions of thorough medical supervision and respecting all the indications that will be provided by doctors and FMSI.”

The AIC then confirmed that if the season is to end early then they will be right there and ready to support their members and are prepared to set up a fund to help out those who are not fortunate enough to be earning the big wages that some are earning in the top flight.

“In the unfortunate event of the season ending early, that scenario will certainly see us participate.

“That’s why footballers know they have a part to play. In this sense, it was highlighted that needs differed between the various categories, but everyone agreed on the objective of protecting the positions of the categories most in difficulty.

“The non-league world, women’s football and those with the lowest incomes in the professional leagues must be protected, also through the use of resources within the world of football and aid that may come from the general welfare system.

“The establishment of a welfare fund intended to support these precarious situations must involve all the parties involved.

“The players are already aware of this, but to date it’s not known which part the other parties will want and have to play.

“The FIGC, the leagues, the international organisations – what will their contribution be to this cause?

“It’ll be one of the topics in discussions, which have already been going on for a few weeks now, and this must be our primary objective, with everyone playing their part.”

The AIC were due to meet with Lega Serie A for talks on some of the above issues last night but they will instead do it later on today.

Barcelona President Bartomeu: “Will Barca Sign Neymar & Lautaro Martinez? I Can’t Speak About Names But Barcelona Will Do What Is Appropriate”

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has confirmed that the club will be in for the best players in the upcoming Summer transfer window but refused to name names.

As part of a long interview with Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo, Bartomeu was asked about whether or not the club’s transfer policy would have to change as a result of the currently ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic.

“No, Abidal and Planes are still working to prepare a team. In the Summer window there will not be so much money so there will be more player swaps between clubs.”

He was also about the continued reports which are linking the club with moves for Paris Saint Germain’s Neymar and Inter’s Lautaro Martinez.

Reports have suggested Neymar could cost Barcelona as much as €180 million whilst it is understood that they would prefer to do a player(s) plus cash deal for Lautaro rather than pay his €111 million release clause.

One recent report has even suggested that Inter have knocked back an offer from the Spanish giants which would have seen them get €70 million in cash plus Arturo Vidal and Nelson Semedo.

“I cannot speak about names. Barça will be in the market willing to carry out the operations it deems appropriate. Of course we will have capacity to do such moves.”

Inter Owned Mauro Icardi: “We’re Quarantining As A Family, We Hope It Will End Soon”

Inter owned striker Mauro Icardi has explained why he and his family have decided to return to Milan to quarantine amid the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic.

The Argentine is currently out on loan at reigning French champions Paris Saint Germain but rather stay in the French capital, Icardi, his wife/agent Wanda Nara, and their children all returned to their residence in Milan, which overlooks San Siro.

“Why did we decide to spend the quarantine in Italy? Because it is allowed to return to the place of residence, obviously respecting the security measures imposed by the government and always being attentive to the safety of each of those in my family. We are quarantining as a family, we hope it will end soon,” he explained as part of a live question and answer session which was broadcast on his official Instagram profile.

Icardi then shared some brief thoughts on the city of Paris, where he has been since the Summer and where he could be past the end of this season if PSG take up their option to sign him on a permanent basis for €70 million.

“It is an incredible city, it is magical. The affection from the fans is really important to me.”

He was also asked which of the goals he has scored in his career is his favourite one to which he responded: “All goals are special.”

Alessandro Diamanti: “I Was Close To Joining Inter, I Reminded Moratti Of Recoba”

Alessandro Diamanti has claimed that he was once close to joining Inter earlier on in his career during a live broadcast which took place on his official Instagram profile earlier on today.

The 36-year-old currently represents A League side Western United but did spent the majority of his career in his native Italy, with him having played for no less than 13 Italian clubs, such as Livorno, Bologna and Palermo.

Diamanti has claimed that in the Summer of 2009 there was a chance that he could have ended up at Inter but the Nerazzurri club opted to sign Wesley Sneijder from Real Madrid instead after missing out on primary target Deco.

“I was close to joining Inter. I knew that Moratti was sick of me because I reminded him of Recoba,” Diamanti, who also played for Watford and Guangzhou Evergrande during his career, began.

“Mourinho came along and said ‘who?’ as he wanted Deco. My agent called me to tell me this and I understood. When Deco went to Chelsea, I called my agent and thought a move could have been done and he then told me Inter wanted Sneijder and again I said I understood.

“Eventually I went to West Ham and Inter done well given they went on to win the treble that season.”

This season Diamanti has made 19 appearances across all competitions for A League newcomers Western United. In almost 1600 minutes on the field, he has scored five goals and provided seven assists for his teammates.
