Barcelona Could Include Junior Firpo In Deal With Inter For Lautaro Martinez

Barcelona could look to include Junior Firpo in a deal with Inter for Lautaro Martinez in the coming months according to a report from Spanish news outlet Sport.

The Blaugrana club signed the young full back last Summer in an €18 million deal from Real Betis but he has struggled to cement his place in the team.

Whilst Barcelona believe that the Dominican Republic born defender will continue to improve, they think it will be hard for him to stay with the club.

A number of clubs have enquired about the availability of the 23-year-old recently as per the report with Torino, Napoli and Roma among them.

Barcelona do not want to sell him for any less than €20 million and they do not want to loan him out either. Barcelona could opt to add him into a deal to sign Lautaro Martinez from Inter though with it understood that Inter are interested in him.

Lega Serie A Call For Players To Not Be Paid Until Coronavirus Crisis Is Over

Lega Serie A have called for players salaries to be stopped until the current crisis period is over according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia.

This is understood to be one of a number of points Lega Serie A have made in a document sent to the Italian players association (AIC).

Later on today there is to be a meeting between the players association and the representative of each club in Serie A and following this meeting the report goes on to add that Lega Serie A and the AIC will then meet to hold potentially decisive discussions on the matter.

Reigning Italian champions Juventus have already taken action regarding the payment of salaries with them coming to an agreement with players which means they will not be paid for the months of March, April, May or June. This action is understood to be saving Juventus some €90 million.

Italian PFA President Tommasi: “We’d Be The First To Be Happy If The Serie A Season Was Finished Over The Summer”

In an interview with Corriere dello Sport, which appeared in today’s print edition, Dario Tommasi, the president of the Italian player’s association spoke on Juventus players decision to take no wages for the coming months in the midst of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

“Chiellini had told me about it, we have always been in contact. At Juve they wanted to tackle the matter before others and they came to the conclusion, with full satisfaction of all,” he began.

“Even if we will return to play in June and beyond June, the wages from then will be part of the next contract year. It is a general agreement, because there are players who are about to expire, others who are about to renew, others who are about to leave, others still in negotiation. Each individual situation will be different.”

He was then asked what the AIC’s position is when it comes to the resumption of this season.

“Our position is clear. Establishing conditions for the future, in the absence of the certainty of starting again, is difficult.

“There is a delicate issue regarding the extension of the season in July. Without an agreement between the parties, no one can extend a contract beyond its deadline.

“We’ll have to sit down and talk about it. Let’s start with the worst-case scenario. Minister Spadafora’s words confirm that before starting again, the health of the country must be safe. In this case the agreement reached by Juventus seems to me to be a starting point.”

He was then asked if the AIC will push for players to all have their health checked prior to any sort of return to the field.

“Under the conditions indicated by Maurizio Casasco in the interview with his newspaper, it is necessary to certify physical fitness and verify any outcomes. Interstitial pneumonia is not a joke. Especially for those who expose their bodies to run at one hundred miles per hour.”

He was then asked if he would be happy if the remainder of the season was carried out over the Summer months and if it would be right to assign the title if the season does not end.

“We would be the first to be happy. It would mean that our beaches are full of swimmers.

“Should a title be assigned? We will have to choose the least worst option. No decision will satisfy everyone. There will be some damage.”

“We must indicate the names of the teams that go to Europe, not necessarily decree a winner.”

He was then asked what he made of several Juventus players decision to return home whilst the players of Bianconeri club were supposed to be in a period of self-isolation following Daniele Rugani testing positive for Covid-19.

“I understand that everyone wants to go back to their family. I think of how many Lega Pro boys have stayed in sports venues and cannot see wives and children but I don’t feel like judging anyone. I have a daughter in London, the other day they cancelled their flight.”

Decision On Remainder Of Serie A Season Won’t Be Taken Until At Least Easter Time

A decision on what to do with the remainder of this season has been put on hold until at least Easter time according to a report in today’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport.

Sporting activity across Italy has been on hold for a number of weeks now due to the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic and although the government restrictions are due to expire in the coming days, it appears highly unlikely that there will be any sport played for the foreseeable future.

Most Serie A clubs still have 12 games to play whilst some, including Inter, have 13 to play meaning it will be far from easy to wrap things up quickly.

The report from the Milan based newspaper states that if by Easter there is an evident decline in the numbers relating to the virus and there are glimpses of a return to normal life, talks over the resumption and conclusion of the season could then begin.

Inter Not In A Rush To Cut Player & Staff Wages

Inter are in no rush to slash the wages of their players and staff amid the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

In the past few days Juventus players and staff came to an agreement that they would not take any salary for the months of March, April, May or June to help the club out financially during these difficult times.

In doing so, the players and staff have saved the Bianconeri club some €90 million and eyes have been on the remaining 19 Serie A clubs since to see if they will take similar action.

As things stand, Inter are not wanting to rush into any decision and are willing to wait it out until Easter to understand how things will look and after that they will then see if they need to negotiate with players and staff over taking cuts to their wages.

Inter Defender Candreva: “Conte Is Extraordinary, He’s A True Perfectionist”

In an interview with Tuttosport, Inter defender Antonio Candreva has thanked medical professionals for all the hard work they are doing during the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic.

“I say thank you for the immense courage you show every day, for your dedication, for your sacrifices: we are with you in this difficult moment and we are proud of you. We will definitely do it. We will come out stronger than before,” he began the interview which appeared in today’s print edition of the newspaper.

“After all this is over, I hope that each of us can appreciate the value of the simple things and I also hope that this moment will teach us to be even more careful and respectful in terms of hygiene.”

Next he went on to discuss how he felt upon learning that Daniele Rugani has tested positive for the virus just days on from Inter facing Rugani’s Juventus and how he has dealt with having to stay at home.

“I was very sorry for him and at the same time I worried about us, even though personally I hadn’t met him on the pitch or in the locker rooms.

“My biggest concern was infecting my family. I would have felt terribly guilty. The first few days we were all a little worried, always positive mentally but worried.”

He then spoke on what it has been like not being able to see his family in Rome for some time.

“This is the thing that makes me suffer the most. I have not been able to visit my father, who has been sick for about a year, it is really bad. My constant thoughts go out to him. He has to go to the hospital often and therefore runs more risks.”

Candreva proceeded to discuss his family life at home and if he has put on weight due to being stuck at home.

“Living with my son 24 hours a day is an immense joy. Between changing diapers, bathing him and feeding him and baby food, I now recover all the time that I normally “lose” with him when I am at work.

“My weight is always constant. I am not someone who gains weight and I have never had problems with the scale fortunately.

“My partner Allegra is really tough. She is my personal trainer and we have fun training together. She has a lot of enthusiasm. We struggle and smile making videos of the exercises that end with a kiss.”

He then spoke on the impact Conte has had on Inter as a whole since taking charge of the club this past Summer.

“Conte is extraordinary, he is someone who never gives up. Even from the “good morning” message you feel his energy. He spurs you on to give your best in every session, always. He is a true perfectionist.”

Candreva then spoke on the possibility of resuming the season in June or July, playing behind closed doors and who he thinks will win the Serie A title.

“It would certainly be a new experience. Maybe not optimal given the heat and such a long stop, but we’ll see. Obviously I will respect what they decide.

“If the fans had been present [at Juventus vs Inter], the whole atmosphere would have changed and there would have been more adrenaline.

“Who will win the title? There are still a lot of games to play but now it doesn’t seem fair to talk about the Scudetto. At this moment the real Scudetto, for everyone, would be winning against this virus.”

In conclusion he praised teammate Romelu Lukaku and shared the team’s goal for when football returns.

“I’m not surprised he has had the season he has had because he was known to be a top striker. I hope he scores many more goals.

“Our goal as a team is to win all matches because we are Inter and we will return stronger than before.”

Inter Midfielder Gagliardini: “We’re Living In A Unique Moment In History”

Inter midfielder Roberto Gagliardini has spoken on the massive impact that the global Coronavirus pandemic has had on his birthplace, Bergamo.

“So many friends and friends of my friends are mourning their loved ones and it’s terrible to think that in those coffins there may be some grandparents or a relative of a person I know,” he began the interview which appeared in today’s print edition of Tuttosport.

“Nobody in my family has been affected by the virus and this at least gives me a little serenity.

“I have not been able to give myself any answers about the whole situation, I am fatalistic. It is up to us to sort things, but we are stubborn, we have a work culture that unites us all and we will be able to overcome this battle too.

“I’m not saying it’s distressing when the phone rings, but there is certainly some concern. It couldn’t be otherwise, when you hear what’s going on around you.”

The Italian midfielder remains in Milan at the moment and went on to discuss how it feels to not be back at home.

“All is still, motionless, it is unbelievable. The noise of the ambulances passing by, however, makes us understand that we are living a unique moment in history. Strong but fair decisions have been made.”

Next he was asked if he is confident that the season will resume after the European Championship’s were moved from this Summer to next Summer.

“I don’t think it’s time to talk about European Championship’s or the national team yet. We are in a delicate period. Many put their lives at risk only by working and talking about everything else must be put aside.”

He then spoke on how it felt to play the Derby D’Italia against arch rivals Juventus earlier on this month behind closed doors at the Allianz Stadium in Turin.

“Playing without the fans is a particular feeling but it is now in the past. Now we have to think about getting out of this situation and to commit yourself to others by doing charity.

“I decided to help the Papa Giovanni Hospital in Bergamo because I know what conditions they are forced to work in and because I have so many friends there. The sum of money is not important, but a gesture is enough.”

Gagliardini proceeded to share what he thinks will be the lasting effects of the pandemic, which has sadly claimed the lives of over 10,000 Italians to date.

“When everything is overcome, the vision on many things will change and perhaps even relations between people who do not know each other will be better.

“The spirit of solidarity that is animating the Italians in these days will have to continue even when the emergency is over.

“Things will have to be analysed and it will have to be understood if there were errors and what can be done to prevent another pandemic from breaking out.”

The 25-year-old joined Inter in the January transfer window during the 2016/17 season on loan from Atalanta and joined the club permanently that Summer. He has since went on to represent the club 88 times in which he has scored nine goals and tallied three assists.

Inter Recall Players They Allowed To Return Home & They Will All Return To Milan Next Week

The seven players Inter granted leave to will return in the middle of next week according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

Inter allowed Marcelo Brozovic, Samir Handanovic, Romelu Lukaku, Diego Godin, Victor Moses, Ashley Young and Christian Eriksen to all return home to be with families during the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic but now want them all back in Milan.

All seven players will have to enter into an obligatory two week quarantine period upon their returns and given all the uncertainty surrounding whether or not the season will resume, Inter do not wish to take the chance that they will be unable to use any of the players.

The report from the Milan based newspaper goes on to state that all players will be monitored daily by the club and they will all have meals prepared by the club’s nutritionist Matteo Pincella delivered to their homes.

Inter Wanting Cash For Lautaro Martinez Rather Than Players Plus Cash Deal For Him

Inter want cash for Lautaro Martinez and are not interested in the idea of doing a players plus cash deal with any club for him according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

Barcelona have been strongly linked to the highly rated 22-year-old Argentine and it is understood that they wish to offer two or three players plus a cash sum but Inter do not want this.

Inter do not want to let Lautaro depart the club but would be left powerless if his release clause of €111 million was met but as per the report it is unlikely that Barcelona will activate it.

The report states that Inter may consider accepting one player plus a considerable cash sum but they will not just accept any player from the Blaugrana club. Arturo Vidal’s name has been suggested but Inter are not interested and would instead prefer someone like Nelson Semedo.

Lautaro is currently under contract with Inter until the end of the 2022/23 season and the Milan based newspaper add that Inter are prepared to reward him with a much deserved new contract if he does not leave the club in the coming months.

Moreover, the player himself is not pushing to leave the club at this moment and would not be opposed to staying with the Nerazzurri with it understood that he is convinced about how good the club’s project is.

Inter Defender Young: “I Love Italy, I Want To Stay & Win”

Inter full back Ashley Young has shared his desire to remain with Inter past the end of this season as well as his desire to win some silverware with the club.

The experienced Englishman joined the club for a nominal fee from Premier League club Manchester United in the recent January transfer window on a six month contract with there being an option for another year.

Young has surprised many with the level of his performances given his age and he has rightly received lots of plaudits in the media.

In an interview with Milan based newspaper Corriere della Sera, which appeared in today’s print edition, the former Aston Villa man admitted he is loving life in Italy.

“I love Italy, Milan, I want to stay and win,” he began. “I am learning the language, you are people with lots of passion and you are nice too.

“I think that maybe Serie A is just more tactical than the Premier League. I chose Inter to win trophies and that is something that pushes anyone to go somewhere in the world.”

Young then spoke on how he has been coping during the global Coronavirus pandemic.

“There is a global pandemic: football is not important at present. People are dying. I often call a friend of mine. He was sick, had cancer, stayed six months in the hospital, suspended between life and death.

“He tells me how difficult it was. I think of him and what he went through. Staying at home is not difficult, we rediscover the affections for things which we never usually have time for. This period helps bring people together and I would say it is a great opportunity. Let’s not waste it.”

He then went on to explain how his move to Inter came about in the past few months.

“When Conte called me, I immediately felt his passion. Conte is not sitting waiting around, seeing him so involved pushed me.

“He has a winning mentality, he is a born winner. He leads every training session with the same passion and intensity of a match. Not all managers can do that.”

Young proceeded to discuss the fact that Inter are still fighting on three fronts.

“We are where we need to be. There is great quality in the squad, but the team has understood that to make the leap they have to work even harder.

“Maybe they lack a little experience and then it is true, Juventus beat us. They certainly have more experience in the squad than we do.”

He concluded the interview by discussing Christian Eriksen who also joined Inter in January.

“Eriksen has incredible pressure on him but it is players like him who make you win. He has incredible pressure on him, it happens when you are a player of his calibre. At Tottenham they did everything to keep him. He will be important to us.”
