Inter One Of Three Clubs Looking To Sign Napoli Forward Dries Mertens This Summer

Three clubs, including Inter, are interested in signing Napoli forward Dries Mertens, who still hasn’t reached an agreement for a new contract with the Partenopei, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Naples based newspaper Il Mattino.

The report details how the 32-year-old Belgian forward, who is contracted to Napoli until the end of this season, met with club president Aurelio De Laurentiis over the last few weeks to discuss a contract renewal. Despite the optimism surrounding the meetings and their contents, no agreement has been reached yet.

Three clubs are looking to sign Mertens as a free agent in the summer, the report continues. Inter, Premier League side Chelsea and Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are all keen on the 32-year-old. Mertens himself has reportedly requested at least €6 million net per season plus a signing bonus from the interested parties. San Siro Committee Highlights Issues With Inter & AC Milan’s New Stadium Project

The San Siro Committee, which is against the construction of a new stadium for Inter and Milan, has prepared a document showing the issues created by a new stadium, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Libero.

The report details how a document has been prepared with the support of Italian lawyer Veronica Dini to be presented to the City Council. The document highlights issues related to the new stadium, starting with the increase in the urban load and pollutant emissions, which pose a health risk to the residents of the area. The new stadium project would also cancel the plan to create a green space of five hectares.

All the associated committees signatory to this motion have decided to ask the City Council to consider the issues of soil consumption and atmospheric and noise emissions, the report continues. They also ask for more strict rules and directives for urban planning and the protection of green areas.

FIGC President Gabriele Gravina: “The Agreement Reached By Juventus Is An Example For The Whole System”

FIGC president Gabriele Gravina discussed the agreement reached between Juventus and their squad to suspend the players’ salaries for a few months in an interview with Italian news outlet ANSA earlier today.

“The agreement reached by Juventus is an example for the whole system. I would like to thank Giorgio Chiellini, his team mates and Maurizio Sarri because in the wake of the collaboration that the Federation has been hoping for, for days, they have put the general interest at the centre of their conversation with the club.”

Gravina then highlighted how unity and solidarity are the most important responses to the ongoing Coronavirus emergency, which poses a threat to Italian football as a whole, and not only individual clubs.

“Unity and solidarity in the world of football represent the first great response to the emergency we are experiencing and which risks being even more serious if we don’t return to play. Only through the contribution of all the heroes, each one for his part, will we make football stronger.”

Serie A, like most other leagues around Europe, has been postponed until further notice due to the ongoing Coronavirus emergency, which has hit Italy harder than any other country in Europe. Italian club’s have requested that they shouldn’t have to pay the players’ full salary, or any salary at all, for the months that they aren’t training or working, due to the heavy strain the emergency is putting on all clubs. So far Juventus are the only Italian club to reach such an agreement with their players.

Inter Defender Diego Godin’s Future Unclear As Strong Interest Appears From England & Spain

Inter defender Diego Godin’s future is unclear as multiple clubs are interested in signing him in the summer, according to a report from Italian media outlet FcInterNews today.

The report details how the 34-year-old Uruguayan, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2022, has struggled in his first season in Italy. The former Atletico Madrid defender has not managed to show off his best in coach Antonio Conte’s tactical system and has even been benched by 20-year-old Italian defender Alessandro Bastoni.

Premier League side Tottenham are incredibly keen on Godin, the report continues. Coach Jose Mourinho appreciates the defender and wanted to bring him to England before during his time in charge of Manchester United. In Spain, Valencia are looking for a new center back and believe Godin would fit well. There are also reports from Spain that his former club Atletico Madrid are keen for a reunion.

Inter aren’t desperate to sell the player, the report highlights, and would happily keep him for next season as well. However, should he look for a move away, Inter wouldn’t attempt to block a deal. His departure would save Inter around €22 million.

Future Of Inter Target Pierre Emerick Aubameyang At Arsenal Hangs In The Balance

The future of Inter target Pierre Emerick Aubameyang at Arsenal hangs in the balance as the player still isn’t close to signing a contract renewal with the Gunners, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the British newspaper the Sun.

The report details how the 30-year-old Gabonese striker is keen for Champions League football and doesn’t believe that Arsenal can provide this request, considering the current strength of the top four in England.

Aubameyang spoke briefly about the topic when speaking to former AC Milan midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng on Instagram Live, the report continues. The Fiorentina owned player highlighted how many are saying that he should sign a new deal with Arsenal, to which he replied: “Ah yes, I know.”

Inter are following the situation closely and are considering launching a bid for the player should he not sign a contract renewal with the North London club. The player’s current contract expires at the end of next season.

Romelu Lukaku Was Sold To Inter Because Of A Relationship Breakdown With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

A report from today’s paper edition of the British newspaper the Times has highlighted why Premier League side Manchester United decided to give up on Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku and sell him to Inter.

The report details how there was a relationship breakdown between Lukaku and coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The 47-year-old Norwegian was furious with the Belgian striker because he believed that the player was using his continuous muscle injuries as excuses. Lukaku was constantly complaining about small physical issues which prevented him from play, an attitude that was repeated regularly after training sessions, causing the relationship breakdown.

Lukaku, who is contracted to Inter until 2024, has made 35 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2904 minutes. In that time, he has scored 23 goals and provided five assists, flourishing under coach Antonio Conte, who has wanted the player for years. He has formed a formidable partnership with Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez.

Frosinone President Maurizio Stirpe: “We Should Split This Season In Two, It Will End In June Of 2021”

Maurizio Stirpe, president of Serie B side Frosinone and vice-president of Confindustria, discussed the Coronavirus emergency, its effect on football and his fears in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

“As an entrepreneur, as a representative of the interests of many companies and as a man of football. It’s a dramatic situation, the depth of which we haven’t yet understood and we don’t see the way out. On an economic level, a crisis of biblical significance is being brought about. Here the activity has been totally stopped.”

He discussed football and how difficult it would be to restart the season.

“Very difficult to restart the season. If you marry the theory of ending in July it would be a problem for the following season. And then you could only play behind closed doors, thus mortifying the sport. You have to spread this season in two, i.e. start again from where you left off, but only when the conditions are right. This season must end on 30 June 2021, transferring all the contracts for one year, the members of the club take two years of salary, having worked only one year.”

Stirpe highlighted how players whose contracts expire with their clubs this season will be able to have an extension as well.

“It doesn’t change anything, it’ll expire on June 30, 2021. All contracts are extended by one year.”

Finally, Stirpe discussed club revenue sources such as sponsorships, ticket sales and television rights.

“Everything freezes, in and out, and they’re reactivated when you leave. The state will get its taxes back, the players will get their salaries, the fans will already have season tickets and the sponsors will have contracts. After the postponements of the European Championships and Olympics it’s the best thing.”

Serie B is one of the many leagues around Europe that has been postponed due to the Coronavirus emergency. Many have called for a temporary suspension on players’ salaries in order to guarantee the financial stability of the club, as football teams are set to lose significant amounts of their revenue due to the stop. Juventus have already reached an agreement with their players to suspend their salaries from March to June, saving them €90 million.

Italian Lawyer Pierfilippo Capello: “The Players’ Contracts & Sponsorships Are Very Complicated”

Italian lawyer Pierfilippo Capello, son of former AC Milan coach Fabio Capello, discussed the current situation in Italian football and the Coronavirus emergency in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

First, Capello tried to simplify the current issues regarding this season.

“Let’s just take the question of players’ contracts, first of all you have to understand that you can’t just refer to the millionaires in Serie A, but all those who may be struggling to make ends meet in Serie C or lower leagues are involved.

“It is necessary to create a table with all the components involved, leagues and unions. But it is also essential that the highest bodies then intervene to create a common line, not only in Italy. So, I’m thinking of UEFA, it would be even better that FIFA intervene. So, simplifying this situation is very complicated. And it might not even be enough.”

He discussed what he meant by it not being enough and the overall impact of the Coronavirus on sport.

“In the sense that this all refers to the context of football, sport if you will. But even if a common decision were to be reached on how to extend the season, with derogation on current contracts and delays on those that should come into force from July, it would be enough for a single member to send the system into disarray.

“Because if a player or a coach, who has his contract expiring already had an agreement with another club as of July and does not want to continue in the current club, it would be really difficult to prevent him from joining them. That is, he could resort to ordinary justice with the concrete possibility that a judge could prove him right. But that of the members, in some ways, is only the tip of the iceberg.”

Finally, Capello spoke about the importance of making good decisions during this period, considering the overall value of the football industry.

“At this moment in history it’s easy to think that this is the case, but we shouldn’t forget that football is an economic sector that moves billions of euros. There is much more at stake. The issue of salaries is the easiest one to talk about, but then there are also the contracts linked to sponsors that can blow up millionaire agreements that companies rely on.”

Serie A, like many other leagues around Europe, has been postponed until further notice due to the Coronavirus. In order to allow the leagues to finish with regularity, UEFA agreed to push back Euro 2020 to next summer instead, freeing up June and July in the calendars.

However, playing in this period still relies on the current health situation and whether it is safe to restart football.

President Of Italian PFA Damiano Tommasi: “We’re Willing To Do Our Part In This Crisis”

Damiano Tommasi, president of the Italian Footballers’ Association, has discussed the suggested salary cut to the players and the ongoing Coronavirus emergency in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Corriere della Sera.

“We’re willing to do our part. But first we need to understand whether or not we’re going to play again. The health of everyone, including the players, comes first.

“I hear talk of teams that want to train, we follow the protocol of the medical federation. Football is not a priority now. We must understand that it is necessary to change habits.”

Some club presidents, like Lazio president Claudio Lotito, have pushed for an early return to training in order to begin working on their players’ physical conditions again. This has been much criticised, with some suggesting that the Italian businessman placed more value on the Scudetto than the safety of his players and staff.

Italian clubs would also like to temporarily suspend their players’ salaries for the months that there is no training or matches. Juventus reached an agreement with their squad yesterday to suspend all salaries from March to June, which will save the Turin based club around €90 million. Other clubs are expected to push for an agreement with their players over the next week.
