Italy’s Minister Of Sport Vincenzo Spadafora: “Impossible To Restart Serie A On May 3rd”

Italy’s Minister of Sport Vincenzo Spadafora discussed the return of Italian football and the ongoing Coronavirus emergency in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Repubblica.

“To resume the matches on May 3 is unrealistic. Tomorrow I will propose to ban for the whole of April the sporting competitions of every order and degree. And I’ll extend the measures to training sessions that we hadn’t banned because there was a possibility that the Olympics could be held.”

Spadafora highlighted how the government will allocate a fund of €400 million to grassroots sports.

“Sport is not only football and football is not only Serie A. – I will allocate an extraordinary plan of 400 million to grassroots sport, to amateur associations in the territories, to a fabric that I am sure will be one of the engines of rebirth.”

Finally, the Minister of Sport discussed Serie A and how the clubs need to change.

“From Serie A football, on the other hand, I expect the demands to be accompanied by a serious desire for change. The big clubs are living in a bubble, beyond their means, starting with the millionaire salaries of the players. They have to understand that nothing can be the same after this crisis.”

Serie A, like most other leagues around Europe, has been postponed until further notice due to the Coronavirus contagion, that has killed over 9000 in Italy alone. The country has been put under total lockdown by prime minister Giuseppe Conte, with most people staying inside their homes as much as possible.

The virus is expected to have a long-lasting effect on both the Italian and world economies. In regard to football, it is expected that most teams will not look to spend too much in order to stabilise their financial situation.

FIGC President Gabriele Gravina: “The Goal Is To Finish The Leagues, We Can Go As Far As July”

FIGC president Gabriele Gravina discussed the Coronavirus emergency and its effect on Italian football in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Corriere della Sera.

First, he discussed when the league will restart.

“Depends on the virus. Our plan is clear, respect the value of sporting competition. The goal is to finish the leagues, and to get to the rankings. We understand that starting again in May will be difficult, but we can go as far as July. We are trying to adapt the situation to our reality.”

The FIGC president then highlighted how they also have to consider the calendar of next season as well, considering UEFA’s postponed Euro 2020.

“We don’t want to invade the coming season’s calendar because of the European Championship. We have a deadline, finish by the end of May 2021.”

Finally, Gravina discussed whether the crisis would force a change in format to Serie A.

“The 22-team Serie A in a year when you have to finish early does not seem to me to be a viable way forward.”

Serie A, like most other leagues around Europe, has been temporarily suspended due to the Coronavirus emergency. Italy has been hit the hardest in Europe and has been in a total lockdown for a few weeks. UEFA were forced to postpone this summer’s European Championship, so domestic leagues could finish with regularity, as well as the safety of people regarding the contagion.

It is expected that Serie A will finish this current season, although the games are likely to be played behind closed doors.

Cagliari Want To Keep Radja Nainggolan But Inter’s Valuation May Be Too High

Inter value Belgian midfielder Radja Nainggolan at €20 million and are happy to sell him to Cagliari in the summer, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The report details how Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini wants to keep the 31-year-old Belgian midfielder to satisfy the Rossoblu fans, but knows that negotiations with Inter will be complicated for the Sardinian club. The Nerazzurri value Nainggolan at €20 million, a relatively high figure for the provincial side considering the current economic climate.

Another issue is Nainggolan’s wages, the report continues. The 31-year-old is paid €4 million net per season, an expensive commitment for the Sardinian club. The former Roma midfielder has made 24 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1943 minutes. In that time, he has scored five goals and provided six assists. The player has already won over the hearts of the fans and is going through his second spell at the club.

Italian Report Highlights Inter’s Current Position Regarding Summer Transfers

A report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport has highlighted Inter’s current position in regards to the summer transfer market.

The report details how the Nerazzurri have currently closed their contacts with Spanish giants Barcelona regarding Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez until further notice, not wanting to discuss a deal at this time. Bayern Munich are still undecided about permanently signing Inter owned forward Ivan Perisic and have thought about sending French midfielder Corentin Tolisso to the Milanese club in exchange.

Another player that Inter are following is Napoli midfielder Allan, the report continues. The 29-year-old Brazilian’s position at the club is uncertain after the players’ refusal to attend the training camp for previous coach Carlo Ancelotti before Christmas. A potential deal had already been discussed in January, with Inter sending Uruguayan midfielder Matias Vecino move to the Partenopei in exchange. Considering the current financial climate, Napoli may be happy to cash in on their star.

Fiorentina Midfielder Gaetano Castrovilli Is Inter’s Top Transfer Target In The Summer

Fiorentina midfielder Gaetano Castrovilli is Inter’s top transfer target for the upcoming summer transfer window, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The report details how the Nerazzurri want to continue their work of ‘Italianising’ the squad and believe Castrovilli would be the perfect option for their midfield. Moreover, the Milanese club aren’t certain to enact the buy option on Italian midfielder Stefano Sensi, who is currently on loan from Sassuolo. Inter are worried about his constant injuries and that Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen plays the same role.

Castrovilli would cost Inter around €40 million, the report continues, although Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso is likely to offer him another year on his contract in order to convince him to remain at the club. Other players that Inter are following closely include Brescia starlet Sandro Tonali and Fiorentina talisman Federico Chiesa, both matching Inter’s goal of signing more Italian players.

Inter Striker Lautaro Martinez’s Entourage Have Denied Reaching An Agreement With Barcelona

Inter striker Lautaro Martinez’s entourage have strongly denied that they have reached an agreement for the transfer of the 22-year-old to Barcelona in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper la Repubblica.

The report details how the 22-year-old Argentine striker, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2023, has simply said that he is open to the prospect of joining the Blaugrana, due to his desire to play with idol and legend Lionel Messi. Italian Journalist Fabrizio Romano: “Inter Could Look To Exchange Mauro Icardi As He Is Worth Less Now”

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano answered questions from Inter fans earlier today regarding their projects for the upcoming summer transfer window on Italian media outlet Calciomercato.com yesterday.

First, Romano discussed the possibility of an exchange between Inter owned forward Ivan Perisic and Bayern Munich midfielder Corentin Tolisso.

“At the moment this is a possibility that Inter are considering. It is not necessarily linked to the Perisic operation because Bayern is having a moment of reflection on loan deals and signings. Meanwhile Tolisso is an opportunity that Inter is still considering.”

The transfer market expert then discussed the future of the two wing backs that arrived for Inter in January, Ashley Young and Victor Moses.

“Young will stay for another year and will extend his contract, Moses has a chance but there is to deal with Chelsea and Inter will not spend too much, for example over €10 million, for the Nigerian. Inter assess left backs like Marcos Alonso and also more offensive wingers, including Chiesa.”

Finally, Romano spoke about the future of Inter owned striker Mauro Icardi, who is currently on loan with French giants Paris Saint Germain. The Parisians have an option to buy the Argentine striker for €70 million.

“Icardi may be worth less today due to the economic crisis, this is clear. But Inter were good to renew his contract a year ago before sending him to Paris and will still have room for maneuver even including possible exchanges for him. Lautaro to Barça is another possibility that must be linked to the post-Coronavirus crisis, €111 million is not spent as easily as it could have been two months ago.”

The 27-year-old Icardi has made 31 appearances across all competitions so far this season for Paris Saint Germain, for a total of 1958 minutes. In that time, he has scored 20 goals and provided four assists. Whilst it initially seemed like PSG would enact the buy option on him, it is now more unclear.
