CONI President Malago: “Football Is A World Apart & Facing A Different Economic Situation To Other Realities”

In an interview with Milan based newspaper Corriere della Sera, Giovanni Malago, the president of the Italian Olympic Committee, has thanked Italian football federation president Gabriele Gravina for keeping him updated during these difficult times.

Sporting activity across Italy is on hold until at least April 3 due to the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic but given the severity of the situation it is highly unlikely that any sporting events will take place anywhere close to that date.

It has been reported in recent days that when it comes to Serie A there is a split amongst the 20 clubs. Some clubs are wanting the season to resume as soon as possible and be finished whilst other clubs are of the belief that there will be no more of this season played.

“I’m frequently in contact with the President of the Federation Gabriele Gravina. He keeps me updated on everything and for this I thank him,” he remarked.

“It’s clear that we are talking about a world apart and I refer to Serie A, who are facing a different economic situation compared to all the other realities.

“I think they will play their game and I can’t do anything but respect it. The organisation of the championships by statute belongs to the FIGC, which then relies on the Lega.”

In conclusion Malago, who has been at the helm of the Italian Olympic Committee since early 2013, said it will all ultimately depend on the government.

“Football, like the Olympics, has to deal with the virus. The government dictates the agenda. At the moment there are no certainties.”

Inter Youngster Matias Fonseca’s Father & Agent: “When I Can Come Back To Italy I’ll Hold Talks With Inter Over A New Contract For Him”

Daniel Fonseca, the father of Inter youngster Matias Fonseca, has revealed he hopes to be able to make it back to Italy soon in order to hold talks with Inter over a new contract for his son.

Fonseca is one of Inter’s promising prospects at the moment and is currently playing in Armando Maddona’s Primavera side.

The 19-year-old striker, who is an Italian national team player at under 19 level, has been with the club for a number of years already and when time allows, it looks like he will be tied down to the club for the foreseeable future too.

“Matias is doing very well, he has been called up by the Italian national team at under 19 level and he made his debut against Spain recently,” Fonseca, who played for Napoli, Roma and Juventus among others in Italy, remarked in an interview with Uruguayan radio station Sport 890.

“Inter have messaged me three times asking when I will be back in Italy. As soon as I can I will come back to Italy and discuss a new contract with the Nerazzurri club.

“He has been there for five years and Appiano Gentile is a few kilometres from our house. He is very comfortable at Inter.

“He is at an important team and we will see how he progresses. We still need to see if he will go on loan to gain experience or not. We will talk with Inter and find out what they have in store for him.”

This season Fonseca, who could also play for Uruguay due to his father being Uruguayan, has made 24 appearances across all competitions for the Primavera, in which he has scored 12 goals and provided three assists for his teammates.

Leaked FIFA Document States Contracts Should Be Extended Until End Of Current Season

A leaked document from world football’s governing body FIFA states that player and coaches contracts should be extended until the end of the current season whenever that will be according to a report from news agency Reuters.

Inter Owned Joao Mario: “I Love Moscow, It’s A Great City”

In a question and answer session posted on his official Instagram profile Inter owned midfielder Joao Mario has spoken on his love for Moscow, where he currently is due to being on loan at Lokomotiv Moscow.

The Portuguese national team midfielder was loaned to the Russian Premier League outfit for this season and given his comments, he is clearly loving life in the Russian capital.

“I love Moscow, it is a great city to live in. I have a very quiet life here because I have training sessions in the morning and in some afternoons when I have free time, I try to get to know the city better.” he explained.

“It’s a huge place with lots of things to do so I try to explore it to the fullest and I’m really enjoying this experience.

“Russian is very different from Portuguese. I already know some words that help me a lot in my daily routine, both in my personal life and in training and games.

“Although it is a difficult language I try, daily and weekly, to improve my Russian and I hope to be able to speak fluently soon.”

The 27-year-old joined Inter in a circa €40 million deal from Portuguese giants Sporting in the Summer of 2016 and was one of the first signings Suning made upon purchasing a controlling stake in the club from Indonesian tycoon Erick Thohir.

Joao Mario arrived much to the excitement of fans but was never able to cement a place under any manager and he has far from lived up to expectations either.

Whilst out on loan at Lokomotiv, he has made 15 appearances across all competitions to date in which he has scored one goal and provided four assists for his teammates.

Inter Striker Lautaro Martinez On Real Madrid’s Summer Transfer Wish List

Inter’s Lautaro Martinez is one of three strikers that Real Madrid are thinking about ahead of the upcoming Summer transfer window according to a report from Spanish news outlet Marca.

Los Blancos thought they had found their striker for the foreseeable future when they signed Luka Jovic from Eintracht Frankfurt this past Summer but with the Serbian having struggled, the Spanish giants are to try again to find a long term option for their attack.

Real Madrid hope to be able to find a player who can play alongside or alternate with Karim Benzema and eventually take over from him in the future.

As things stand Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Erling Braut Haaland is at the top of their wish list whilst Lautaro and Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane are also on it.

Given the names of the players on their wish list, it would appear that Real Madrid are not bothered how much money they need to spend so long as they get what they are after.

Inter Interested In Several Centre Backs Ahead Of Summer Transfer Window Including Spurs’ Vertonghen

Tottenham Hotspur’s Jan Vertonghen is one of several defenders that Inter have their eyes on ahead of the upcoming Summer transfer window according to a report in today’s print edition of Tuttosport.

The Belgian national team centre back’s current deal with the Premier League side is due to expire at the end of June and his agent has recently admitted that he and his client are refusing to rule anything out.

Moreover, the report from the Turin based newspaper goes on to state that the Nerazzurri club have also developed an interest in signing Torino’s Armando Izzo with Inter manager Antonio Conte reportedly a big fan of the Italian national team defender who has lots of experience playing in a three man defence.
