Serie A Clubs Want Summer Transfer Window Extended Due To Current Situation

Serie A clubs have expressed an interest in having the Summer transfer window extended due to the current situation according to a report in today’s print edition of Tuttosport.

If the current season is to end in July, if it does indeed start back up again, clubs would like to see the window extended until the end of September or even early October.

The report from the Turin based newspaper goes on to add that clubs would be willing to have the January transfer window cut short to allow for the Summer transfer window to be extended.

This request is understood to be one of a number that Lega Serie A submitted to the Italian football federation FIGC and European football’s governing body UEFA on behalf of the clubs who are seeking help in these difficult times.

Reports elsewhere in the media have suggested that clubs are also exploring the possibility of players wages being cut, possibly by as much as 30%, to help cushion the financial blow the current situation has caused.

Italian Report Claims Current Standings Would Be Final In Serie A If Season Is Cancelled

After initial optimism over the possible resumption of the season, clubs are growing more and more pessimistic about the possibility of the season resuming according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

Earlier this month Serie A, alongside all sporting activity in Italy, was put on hold by the Italian government until at least April 3 and the country was also placed on lock down due to the global Coronavirus crisis.

In the best case scenario the league could resume some time between May 9 and May 16 but even then it would be particularly difficult for the season to be completed by June 30 like European football’s governing body want. The season may have to spill over into July in order to be completed.

The report goes on to state that the worst case scenario is that the season does not start up again, the possibility of which is growing increasingly likely. Should this happen, the current standings will be final and there will be no relegation from the league although the top two from Serie B would come up meaning a 22 team league next season.

Inter Linked Luigi Sepe’s Former Manager: “I’m Not Surprised He Is Being Linked To Inter”

Luigi Sepe’s former manager Marco Baroni has admitted he is not surprised to have seen the Parma goalkeeper linked with a possible Summer transfer window switch to Inter.

Inter are on the look-out for a new goalkeeper capable of playing as back-up to current number one Samir Handanovic and have seemingly sparked an interest in landing Sepe from the Ducali, who are a club they have very good relations with.

Udinese’s Juan Musso was the player that Inter initially courted but upon learning he would cost a lot, it is understood that Inter redirected their attention toward Sepe, who joined Parma this past Summer from Napoli.

“I’m not surprised. I think he can go on to become the starter at a great team,” Baroni who managed Sepe when he was on loan at Virtus Lanciano in the 2013/14 season explained in an interview with Turin based news outlet Tuttosport.

“It would not scare him. He has already done it at Napoli. I think he made the right decision to go to Parma but saying no to a great club like Inter would not be easy.

“All the big teams need a back-up goalkeeper who is just as good as their first goalkeeper. With the many commitments that clubs have these days, you have to have a second goalkeeper who is reliable. Sepe is a very reliable goalkeeper.”

This season Sepe has made 22 appearances across all competitions, in which he has conceded 28 goals and kept five clean sheets.

The Brazilian attacking midfielder is currently out on loan at German giants Bayern Munich who have an option to buy him but they do not wish to take advantage of this option.

Barcelona do not want to keep a hold of Coutinho who they forked out big money for to sign from Liverpool and are looking to offload him hence why Chelsea have been given the chance to sign him.

For the time being Chelsea have not given a response to the proposal but the report states that they are currently focusing on other targets instead ahead of the Summer transfer window.

Chelsea are not the only club to have been linked with the 27-year-old with Inter also having been linked with making a move for him both in the Italian and Spanish media.
