Inter Striker Lautaro Martinez Can Choose Between Signing For Barcelona Or Renewing His Contract

Inter striker Lautaro Martinez has the choice between signing for Spanish side Barcelona or signing a new contract with Inter, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The report details how the 22-year-old Argentine striker has been followed by the Catalan side for a number of years now, with the club highlighting his similarities to Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez. The Blaugrana are looking for a replacement for the aging striker and Lautaro is their top target.

Lautaro, who is contracted to Inter until 2023, has a release clause of €111 million, the report continues. Should he decide to renew with the Nerazzurri, he will receive a new contract with higher wages and a removal of the release clause.

Barcelona are trying to get around the release clause, the report adds. The Catalan club would offer Inter €70-80 million in cash plus one or two players in exchange for Lautaro.

Italian Clubs’ Request To Cut Players’ Salaries May Soon Be Shared Across Europe

The Italian clubs’ request to cut players’ salaries for the months that they are not allowed to play or train due to the Coronavirus may soon be shared by other clubs across the top leagues in Europe, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The report details how the Italian clubs want a cut on players’ salaries as they claim that the economic losses due to the virus threatens their financial stability, and the cut of the salaries may allow them to stay afloat during the period. Whilst Serie A sides will submit this request to the Italian football federation tomorrow, AIC have already complained.

Should the request be shared by other top clubs in leagues around Europe, the report continues, both Fifpro and UEFA would need to get involved. The debate would become incredibly broad, especially considering the aid that UEFA have already requested given the postponement of their upcoming European Championship.

Many Serie A Clubs No Longer Believe That The Season Will Be Finished Due To Coronavirus Emergency

Many Serie A clubs no longer believe that the season will be finished, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The report details how many clubs think that a return to the pitch in May is unthinkable, considering the current situation of the Coronavirus emergency. The clubs think a May restart would be too risky. There is an evident awareness now of the situation and all the directors didn’t argue during the last conference call.

Serie A tomorrow will send the Italian football federation a report on the amount they will lose due to the situation, the report continues. They will also submit a request to the Italian government to suspend paying the players’ salaries for this period, in order to help the clubs economically. Other requests will also be made to help the clubs work more efficiently, such as amending some laws.

Italy Coach Roberto Mancini: “Juve Are The Favourites, Lazio In The Running But Inter Are Also There”

Italy coach Roberto Mancini discussed the Coronavirus emergency, it’s effect on Italy and the postponement of the upcoming European Championship in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

First, he discussed the fact that many Italians are talking or singing from their balconies during the lockdown.

“Very much. It’s the most authentic Italy. It represents us. We are the ones who give the best in the difficulties, when we hold each other, help each other and put all our humanity into play. These people, after so much pain and so much fear, would have deserved the joy of a European Championship to distract themselves and escape again.”

He touched on whether he would move his loved ones to a safer place oversees, if he had the chance.

“I don’t even think about leaving Italy, because I feel safe here and have full confidence in our doctors who are doing a heroic job. I want to feel close to those who are in trouble. And I say this as a simple citizen, not because I have an institutional role and represent Italy.”

The former Inter coach discussed how he keeps in contact with his squad.

“Over the past few weeks, I’ve called a few players, especially the injured and doubtful ones. I’ve been working on the friendly matches with England and Germany and I’ve started to set up the European Championship system. Everything was cancelled. I confess I felt disappointment. I stopped.”

He discussed whether condensing the final third of the season in the summer would still be a legitimate way of finishing the season.

“After what happened, the players will be so eager to play that enthusiasm will compensate for fatigue. I’m convinced we’ll be back to having fun again.”

Mancini then spoke about the title race between Juventus and Lazio, as well as Inter.

“Juve are the favorites, but it is an open fight. Lazio are in the running, but I also say Inter. Precisely because the situation will be exceptional, a new planet, it’s impossible to make scientific forecasts. There could be surprises. The important thing, however, would be to start again, because it would mean having recovered our normality. That’s why I’d wait until the last minute before cancelling the Tokyo Games. The Olympics is too important. It’s too good. It would be the celebration of the world that has left fear behind.”

The former Manchester City coach spoke about the idea of cutting players’ salaries for the period that they cannot work.

“No use making decisions now. Let’s wait. I’ve said it, I think positive, I’m sure the league will restart and be completed. Then, if all the games are played, the problem will have less weight. The players still have the sense of responsibility to respond in the right way to any needs.”

He discussed what he thinks about when he imagines the return of the national team.

“The national anthem and me listening to it standing in front of the bench. After what we’re going through, it’s going to be a wonderful, powerful emotion. I’m already waiting for you.”

Finally, Mancini gave a locker room talk to all of Italy.

“Let’s continue to play like this, as a team, with generosity. Let’s respect the rules, let’s stay at home. And we’ll come out of this game better than we came in.”

Brescia President Massimo Cellino: “The Season Should Be Ended, If Anybody Wants This Scudetto Take It”

Brescia president Massimo Cellino discussed the Coronavirus emergency, it’s effect on football and it’s wider effect on Italy in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

“What recovery, what season to finish, I think about next year, only that. The cup, the Scudetto… Lotito wants it? Take it. He’s convinced he has an unbeatable team, let’s give him that idea.”

Cellino then discussed the statement made by fans from Lombardy calling for the season to be ended, considering the incredibly hard impact the Coronavirus has had on the northern regions of Italy.

“Have you or haven’t you read the statement from the Lombardy fans? They don’t want it to start again. They forbid it, not the federation. Life first. Life, damn it. There are others who bring oxygen to hospitals, others who mourn their dead, others who are still intubated. No more games this year. Think about the next season. Some people still don’t realise what’s happening, and that something is worse than the virus. I don’t believe in miracles. I stopped doing that a long time ago. Let’s reset. How many games were played?”

He justified why he thinks that the league should be totally called off, considering that 26 out of 39 games have been played.

“That’s one third of the league left. The season’s gone, if anybody wants this damn Scudetto, take it. It’s closed. That’s it. And I don’t talk like that because Brescia is last in the league. We’re last because we deserve it. I deserve it first. A third of the league has been ended, and then a third of the players’ salaries, a third of television rights and a third of taxes are cut. It’s the easiest way to make things right.”

Finally, Cellino defended his decision to push for a return to training, despite his words calling for the end of the season.

“The truth is another. After the last match we were thinking of continuing training in groups of two, three players at a time. A dozen mini-sessions a day. We have a huge sports centre, fifteen hectares of lawn, and to develop the program, one trip, two kicks to the ball, we needed trainers, not coaches. The ones we called are not technicians, but basic trainers. I ask why have the Coaches’ Association complained.”

Serie A, like many other leagues around Europe, has been postponed until further notice due to the Coronavirus emergency in the continent. UEFA have agreed to postpone the upcoming European Championship in order to allow leagues to finish with regularity, although there are still many unanswered questions.

Torino President Urbano Cairo: “Claudio Lotito & Aurelio De Laurentiis Are Trying To Take Advantage Of The Situation”

Torino president Urbano Cairo discussed the Coronavirus emergency, it’s effect on Italian football and those that don’t understand the extent of the problem in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper La Stampa.

“If I think that in the league meeting on 10 March there were still those who were talking about training and getting back into the game, it’s logical that time has been lost. Those topics, to hear them now, seem alien.”

The Italian then discussed his reaction to some club president’s pushing for a quicker return to training.

“I said it immediately, ‘if we don’t take drastic decisions, even moving the fans will contribute to an exponential increase in the number of those infected. This emergency has compacted us, there are more units than before. Many hawks have become doves even though there is still some left who want to do the phenomenon, who break the front to have advantages. Cunning, small caboose attitudes. This is not the time.”

He didn’t shy away from the fact that he was referring to Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis and Lazio president Claudio Lotito.

“Ask them. Just, it seems crazy to me to make a theory based on the contagion data. To say ‘my region has no problem’ with such an evolving situation is an unfortunate phrase. Then the virus explodes in Fondi and then… The other teams don’t think like this.”

Cairo tried to understand why these presidents are thinking like this.

“I suppose because of sporting interests, maybe to take advantage of the preparation.”

The Torino president spoke about when the football season would end.

“It is pointless to venture into predictions, in the face of a pandemic we can only sail along what we see. Fixing a beginning or an end is meaningless now, but if we go back to the closed doors games then it is the most likely.”

Finally, Cairo spoke about the request to pay players less for the months that they cannot work due to the emergency.

“It will be inevitable. We are faced with a systemic problem that is in danger of imploding without any major measures. I think the players are the first not to want it, they’re guys who have heads. We need to limit the damage here, then we’ll think about economic reconstruction. Soccer as in all other sectors.”

Serie A, like most other leagues around Europe, has been postponed due to the Coronavirus emergency. UEFA agreed to postpone Euro 2020 to next summer to allow the leagues to finish with regularity, but the situation is still unclear and there are many unanswered questions.

Inter May Look To Sign Sassuolo Midfielder Manuel Locatelli In The Summer

Inter may look to sign Sassuolo midfielder Manuel Locatelli in the summer, as a replacement for the departing Borja Valero, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

The report details how the Nerazzurri and Neroverdi have a very good relationship, further improved once Beppe Marotta joined Inter. The Milanese club will activate the buy option on Italian midfielder Stefano Sensi in the summer and may use those discussions to bring up Locatelli.

The 22-year-old Italian midfielder can play as a mezzala and a backup for Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic, the report continues. He would only cost Inter around €25 million, a low price considering his young age and great potential.

Locatelli, who is contracted to Sassuolo until 2023, has made 21 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1656 minutes. In that time, he has provided three assists and become a core part of the first team after settling in.

Inter are considering offering 27-year-old Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic a new contract in order to protect him from interested clubs, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

The report details how the player has shined under coach Antonio Conte this season, becoming one of the best registas in the world. At the end of the season Inter CEO Beppe Marotta will meet with Brozovic to discuss a contract extension.

The Croatian midfielder, whose contract expires with the Nerazzurri in 2022, has made 32 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2715 minutes. In that time, he has scored three goals and provided five assists.
