Ex-Inter Midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron: “Lautaro Martinez Is Unlikely To Make A Mistake In Front Of Goal”

Former Inter and Lazio midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron discussed the Coronavirus emergency, Inter midfielder Stefano Sensi and Nerazzurri striker Lautaro Martinez in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports 24 earlier today.

First, Veron discussed how the Coronavirus emergency is unfolding in his native country, Argentina.

“It’s been a week since football has been stopped and the situation is becoming a bit heavy in our country. The government has set restrictions, we have to stay at home. As for the club, I feel for the guys, trying to understand how they are. As a club we have provided the infrastructure that we have in case the situation becomes more difficult.”

The 45-year-old Argentinian then discussed current Serie A players that have similar qualities to the ones he possessed.

“Sensi and Luis Alberto look like me. Maybe Sensi has some of my characteristics. When I moved to Italy, they let me do little, because coming from Argentina the tactical part wasn’t my forte. In this sense Eriksson was the coach who understood me the most, with him I expressed myself at my best, he gave me complete freedom. Another player I like a lot is Luis Alberto, he is having a great season and he has some characteristics in which I see myself again.”

He revealed why he wore the famous knee bandage for so long in his career.

“The sash I wore on my knee? It started at Sampdoria, with a dear friend who was also at Lazio and Inter, Sergio Viganò, a masseur. At the time I had a small problem with my knee and out of habit I wore it until the end of my career.”

Finally, Veron spoke about Inter forward Lautaro Martinez and Juventus star Paulo Dybala, both the future of the attacking department in the Argentinian national team.

“They are different players. Dybala is a player who can not only play as a second striker, but also as a trequartista. I don’t think Lautaro can do that, but inside the area he’s a player who is unlikely to make a mistake in front of the goal. They can play together, they’re young, they have a lot of years to improve everything they’ve shown over the years.”

Lautaro, who is contracted to Inter until 2023, has been linked with Barcelona heavily throughout this season, after impressing under coach Antonio Conte. The 22-year-old has made 31 appearances across all competitions so far this season for the Nerazzurri, for a total of 2437 minutes. In that time, he’s scored 16 goals and provided four assists.

Lega Pro President Francesco Ghirelli: “When The Crisis Is Over, The Country Will Need Our Football”

President of Lega Pro, the organisation that runs Serie C, Francesco Ghirelli discussed the Coronavirus emergency and its effect on football in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

“The main issue, as Minister Spadafora, with whom we are in contact, knows well, is related to the economic sustainability of the teams. The aim is to offer clubs a useful operational support to effectively and flexibly apply the rules of the decrees, such as the ‘Cura Italia’, which contain various provisions for the world of football. The third is aimed at ‘sustainability for the reformulation of the regulations for the 20/21 season’ through the revision of the licensing system, the modification of the self-regulation code with a view to containing costs with the aim of guaranteeing the economic-financial sustainability of clubs. The fourth, labour law, focuses on the repercussions of the crisis in the management of employment relations, training sessions, ordinary layoffs, salaries, job security.”

Ghirelli discussed the work Lega Pro are doing with both the AIC and the AIAC to provide support and solidarity to players and clubs.

“We have set up a table with AIC and AIAC to share efforts with an approach based on solidarity. Finally, to be close to all 60 clubs, Lega Pro is establishing, again through PricewaterhouseCoopers TLS, a centralized service of assistance on tax, social security, labor law issues.”

He then spoke about the next steps that need to be taken during this emergency.

“The next step of the Committee will be to evaluate the economic impact that the crisis linked to Covid-19 is having and will have on our clubs. Data that we will bring to the attention, through the action coordinated by President Gravina, of Minister Spadafora, so that there is a plan of action by the government. In the last decree we entered by right, for the first time, as an integral part of the Italian productive system.”

Ghirelli explained why Lega Pro asked for a return of part of the tax credit for the clubs.

“What was behind the request of some time ago, today of enormous topicality, to return part of the tax credit to us? We used what we received to make structures, training, territorial protection for young people. The investments will produce interventions in infrastructure that will attract capital and this will allow the clubs to innovate and have places for the training of young players and players giving opportunities for a virtuous economic-financial policy and, therefore, capitalize. It means employment, job opportunities for young people with multidisciplinary skills. I’m thinking of the youth sports centre or even more so the multi-purpose stadium.”

The Lega Pro president highlighted how the request could have been blocked by the European Union.

“The resources that the tax authorities gave at the beginning will return to the tax authorities at the end and/or during the investment. Back then, it was said that there was the obstacle of the European Union because this type of intervention would have been State aid, today we can proceed.”

Finally, Ghirelli touched on how Serie C is dealing with the crisis and how important football is to the people.

“We in Serie C know that when we come out of the crisis, we will find ourselves at the request of a place, the stadium, in line with the values between men and women, of the rediscovery of social football. From this point of view, we are ahead, for some time we have been thinking about how to equip ourselves because the endemic crisis imposed it on us and because this culture is in our DNA. Soon the country will need our football.”

Serie C, like Serie A and most other leagues around Europe, has been postponed due to the Coronavirus emergency. Players, like the rest of the Italian population, are remaining at home in order to try and stop the spread of the contagion.

Santos President José Carlos Peres: “I Wanted To Give Inter A Fast Track To Sign Yeferson Soteldo But I Haven’t Heard From Piero Ausilio”

Santos president José Carlos Peres discussed former Inter striker Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa and Yeferson Soteldo in an interview with Italian media outlet Calciomercato.com earlier today.

“We picked up Gabriel Barbosa at the bottom of the well, he had a low morale after only being on the bench at Inter and on loan at Benfica. He’d already lost value.”

Peres then revealed that Santos made Inter an offer for the Brazilian striker, but it wasn’t enough to convince the Milanese club.

“We fixed him up and made him feel at home. He played a lot and scored a lot. He wanted to stay here. I called Inter and offered Lucas Verissimo plus €4 million, but they preferred to give him to Flamengo for €20 million paid in installments. It’s a shame.”

He also discussed 22-year-old Venezuelan forward Yeferson Soteldo, who Inter have long been interested in.

“Ausilio asked me for the player himself, but he stopped in front of my request for €35 million. Soteldo is a young player, who has sensational skills, he is a player who decides the games. All the big teams in Brazil have asked me for him, Premier League teams like Everton want him, and he has many requests from Spain.”

He then revealed how Santos were willing to give Inter an advantage in the race to sign the player, but the Nerazzurri haven’t acted upon it yet.

“I, despite the disappointment we had with Gabigol’s situation, wanted to give Piero Ausilio a fast track, and with a counter-proposal of €20-25 million we would have sat down to negotiate, but he hasn’t been heard from again.”

Soteldo, who is contracted to Santos until 2022, made 34 appearances across all competitions last season, for a total of 2818 minutes. In that time, he scored ten goals and provided six assists, impressing with his quick feet and ball control.

Gabigol struggled in Europe but found his form in Brazil, and last season guided Flamengo to both a domestic league title and the coveted Copa Libertadores.

Inter Linked Lucas Martínez Quarta’s Agent: “It’s A Source Of Pride That Javier Zanetti Recognises Lucas’ Talent”

Inter linked Lucas Martínez Quarta’s agent, Gustavo Goni, discussed the Nerazzurri’s interest in his client as well as the player’s desires in an interview with Italian media outlet FcInter1908 earlier today.

First, Goni revealed that he hasn’t been in contact with Inter recently.

“No, we haven’t had any contact with the Nerazzurri lately.”

The agent then discussed whether there is an agreement with Argentinian side River Plate, where Martinez Quarta is contracted to 2021, to leave in the summer.

“There’s nothing definite yet. But if there is an offer that satisfies both parties, the matter will be resolved positively.”

He revealed that Martinez Quarta has been followed by other European clubs as well as Inter.

“There are many clubs interested in the player. They are not from Italy, but for the moment there are no concrete offers yet.”

Goni spoke about the 23-year-old Argentine defender’s desires and what he wants for his future.

“Lucas is very quiet and focused on the commitments he will have to face with River Plate. His summoning with Argentina for the Copa America was very likely, unfortunately with this Coronavirus emergency the tournament has been suspended. As far as I’m concerned Lucas, because of his characteristics, he could play in any league in the world. We will see what will happen, we will evaluate and make a decision together.”

The agent discussed his client’s conversation with Inter executive Javier Zanetti.

“I know they had a phone contact a while back. It is surely a source of pride that someone like Zanetti recognises Lucas’ talent.”

He revealed that Martinez Quarta is confident playing in a three-man defense, the usual system of coach Antonio Conte.

“Since the beginning of the year, River has been playing with a three-man defense. The good thing for Lucas is that he is able to play in all three positions of this system and he has shown it on the pitch.”

Finally, Goni refused to suggest that Inter were closest to signing his client out of all of the interested clubs.

“It wouldn’t be wise to say that because no one made a formal offer! The real thing is that he’s a River player and he’s at a wonderful time in his career. We’ll evaluate the rest in due course. No hurry.”

Ex-Inter President Massimo Moratti Donates €1 Million To Lombardy Region To Help Fight Coronavirus

Former Inter president Massimo Moratti, who is the president of Italian energy company Saras, has donated €1 million to help fight the Coronavirus in his home region of Lombardy, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Sardinian newspaper L’Unione Sarda.

The report details how the 74-year-old Italian wants to help fight the contagion in order to reduce the dangers to the Italian people and assist the hospitals in their fight against the virus. Moratti discussed the donation, saying: “In this moment of collective emergency, hospitals are the structures that are required to make the greatest effort and their role is fundamental to combat this virus.”

The former Nerazzurri president then spoke about why he decided to donate the money specifically to help the Lombardy region, despite many parts of Northern Italy being in the same or similar situation, saying: “We feel the duty to concretely support the Lombardy Region, which is among the most affected areas and which, among many difficulties, is facing the emergency together with the health structures of the territory, united by a spirit of responsibility, courage and dedication.”

Moratti took over as Inter chairman in 1995, selling the club in 2013. He reportedly invested €1.5 billion of his own money into the squad and helped the club rise to the top of football. Under Moratti’s reign, the Milanese side won five league titles, four Coppa Italia trophies, four Supercoppa Italiana trophies, a Champions League during the Treble season, a UEFA Cup after beating Lazio in the final and a FIFA Club World Cup.

Luca Caldirola: “I Didn’t Want To Join Inter As A Kid, I Was An AC Milan Fan. Now I Cheer For The Nerazzurri In Milan”

Benevento defender and Inter youth product Luca Caldirola discussed his reluctance to wear the Nerazzurri shirt after growing up as an AC Milan fan in an interview with Italian broadcaster DAZN earlier today.

“When Inter called me I was 7 years old, I didn’t want to go. I said: ‘I’ll never wear that shirt’. It was my parents who spurred me on. I remember that in the derby that was won 6-0 by Milan, we were in a tournament, Antonio Caracciolo and I, we rejoiced like crazy despite being in the Inter youth system.”

The 29-year-old Italian then revealed how his experiences made him change his allegiance in Milan.

“Then, after many years at Inter, in the end you get the black and blue, so now if there is a team that I hope wins, it’s Inter and not Milan.”

Caldirola, who is contracted to Serie B side Benevento until 2021, only ever made one first team appearance for the Nerazzurri, after spending 11 years in the youth system. He spent time on loan with Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem before joining Cesena. A returned to Inter on loan but again failed to make an impact. He has struggled for playing time his whole career, making 199 first team appearances across his career, in Italy, Germany and the Netherlands.

This season, Caldirola has made 27 appearances across all competitions for Benevento, for a total of 2402 minutes. In that time, he has scored two goals and help the side keep 14 clean sheets.
