Luca Toni: “Inter Owned Icardi Isn’t As Complete As Spurs’ Kane”

Legendary Italian striker Luca Toni has shared his belief that Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane is a more complete player than Inter owned Mauro Icardi.

Kane and Icardi have proved to be two of the most prolific goalscorers of their generation. Kane has netted 181 goals in 278 matches across all competitions for Spurs whilst Icardi has netted 124 goals in 219 appearances across all competitions for Inter.

Icardi is currently out on loan at reigning French champions Paris Saint Germain and he has been just as prolific in the French capital as he was at Inter with him having netted 20 goals in 31 appearances across all competitions for them.

“Who is the best striker in the world who is under 30-years-old? Harry Kane. He is a true centre forward and scores a lot of goals. With him only being 26, he still has room for growth,” Toni began an interview with Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

“Icardi? He is not as good. I would say Kane is a 9/10 and Icardi is an 8/10. Icardi is just as great a finisher as Kane but he is not as complete and must participate more in the build-up. He has improved playing alongside top players like Neymar and Mbappe.”

Toni enjoyed a 22 year playing career between 1994 and 2016 and he himself had some very prolific spells at clubs especially Palermo, Fiorentina and Bayern Munich when he was at the peak of his powers. He was also very much prolific in final few seasons as a professional with Hellas Verona with him scoring a goal almost every other game.

Inter Not Allowing Players To Leave Milan Amid Ongoing Coronavirus Crisis

Inter have been clear with the players that they must respect the quarantine rules that are in place according to a report from FCInter1908.it.

Following Juventus defender Daniele Rugani testing positive for Coronavirus, Inter ordered their players into quarantine as a safety measure just days after taking on Juventus, even though none of the players were showing any sort of symptoms of the virus.

Soon after all of Italy was placed into lock down by the Italian government in an attempt to try and contain and stop the virus from spreading any further.

The report goes on to state that the Inter players are under strict orders that they cannot leave the city of Milan which is different to how some other clubs and leagues have went about things with some others allowing players to return to their native countries to self-isolate in the midst of the global Coronavirus pandemic.

Emiliano Viviano: “Inter Didn’t Sign Me As They Realised Handanovic Was Going To Recover Faster Than Expected”

In an interview with mediagol.it, Emiliano Viviano has opened up on the training stint which he had with Inter earlier on this year.

Viviano was called in by Inter for a trial when number one goalkeeper and current club captain Samir Handanovic sustained a hairline fracture to the small finger in his left hand and Viviano even underwent a medical but in the end the club opted not to sign him and rely upon Daniele Padelli whilst Handanovic was out.

“I had a medical so they could see my physical condition but the Nerazzurri management realised that Handanovic would recover faster than originally expected and they did not want to upset the existing hierarchies at the club,” he began.

“It was only normal that before they made any decision I should have taken a medical and trained pending the results of the tests they were doing on Samir.

“It was nothing out of the ordinary and I was perfectly aware of the situation. I would have been happy if I had joined.”

The veteran shot-stopper remains a free agent following his release from Portuguese giants Sporting near the end of last year.

Throughout his x year playing career, the 34-year-old has represented a total of eight clubs all of which have been in Italy with the exception of Sporting and Premier League side Arsenal.

He has made 409 career appearances across all competitions in which he has conceded 523 goals and kept a total of 125 clean sheets.

Inter Legend Veron: “Dybala & Lautaro Martinez Are Different, Sensi Is Similar To Me In Certain Things”

Legendary Inter midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron has dismissed comparisons being made between his compatriots, Juventus’ Paulo Dybala and Inter’s Lautaro Martinez.

“They are different. Dybala can play as a second striker and also as an attacking midfielder, Lautaro cannot but inside the box he is a player who regularly finds the back of the net,” he started an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia which was broadcast earlier on today.

“They can play together, they are young and still have many years to improve everything they have already shown in these years.”

Veron was then asked if he could name the best midfielder that he played with and he went on to admit that there was no shortage of top midfielders that he played with during his playing career which spanned two decades.

“It is difficult to name just one. In the midfield when I was at Lazio I had Mancini, Simeone, Nedved, Conceicao, whilst at Parma I had Fuser and Fiore. At Inter I had Davids, Gonzalez, Cambiasso and Figo.”

Veron then went on to discuss comparisons that have been made between himself and current Inter and Italian national team central midfielder Stefano Sensi: “Maybe Sensi does have some certain characteristics that are similar to mines.”

In conclusion Veron went on to reveal that he still holds Italian football close to him having spent a large chunk of his career in Italy.

“I always follow the Italian league, I spent 10 years there and I cannot detach myself from it. I’ll be back when I can to watch, I like Italian football and the league is recovering. In the past it has been among the best, we hope that everything can pass soon and that it can recover.”

Veron spent two years on Inter’s books between 2004 and 2006 and made a total of 74 appearances across all competitions for the club in which he scored four goals and tallied 11 assists.

Inter Defender de Vrij: “I’m Thriving Under Conte & I’m Learning A Lot”

Inter centre back Stefan de Vrij has discussed how he has found life in quarantine as part of a live question and answer session which was broadcast over Inter’s social media channels earlier on today.

“The situation we’re living in isn’t easy, but we have to adapt and do the best we can while we wait to defeat this virus. I train twice daily and when I’m not doing that, I watch TV and read, a lot: I’ve already read four books in this time,” he started.

“Inter fans are incredible, they always pack out the stadium and they get right behind us on and off the pitch. That’s really important for us players and I try as much as possible to repay their faith: on the pitch and with small gestures off it.”

de Vrij went on to speak about how he has found working under Antonio Conte and what it is like to play alongside Milan Skriniar.

“I’m thriving under Conte and I’m learning a lot. I’m happy and we all try to follow his instructions wholeheartedly. Skriniar? He’s a top defender, a great guy and a real pleasure to play with.”

Next de Vrij spoke on his experiences of the Milan derby.

“My two goals against AC Milan have both been great, and obviously the last one was important in our historic comeback.”

de Vrij then reflected on his career as a footballer and spoke on who he supports and how he initially started out as a striker before eventually. becoming a centre back.

“I’ve always thought of football as my favourite sport, even though I tried my hand at tennis. It was my dad, who was also a footballer, who gave this passion to me. As a kid I used to support Feyenoord, a team I then went on to play for.

“To begin with I was a forward, then I gradually dropped back into midfield, then when I was 16 I played full-back and finally I moved to a more central position in my first-team debut. I had many idols during my childhood, but I always had one goal that inspired me: to become a better version of myself.”

Next de Vrij spoke on some of the toughest opponents he has come up against in his career and also spoke on his Dutch national team teammate Virgil van Dijk.

“I’ve had to mark a lot of top players in my career, like Messi and Ronaldo. Recently I also had to face Mbappé: he’s very fast and difficult to keep up with. Van Dijk? He’s an extraordinary teammate, and I can learn a lot from him.”

He was then asked which of the 338 games he has played in his professional career is the best game he has ever been involved in.

“One of the best games I’ve played in is definitely the 2014 World Cup game when we beat Spain 5-1 and I scored, an unforgettable match.”

In conclusion de Vrij insisted that the aim will continue to be to keep on improving once training and the season resumes again.

“When we return to training, we’ll resume our work and aim to keep improving. Stepping out onto the pitch is a great feeling, but for now we’ll stay focused on other things: most importantly staying at home.”

Rivas, who is under contract with Inter until the end of the 2021/22 season, was then asked about what his plans are for the immediate future: “In the meantime, I would like to win the league and give priority to my health. I would like to stay at Reggina.”

Former Inter Goalkeeper Bordon: “I Hope Handanovic Can Win Trophies Soon, Inter Could Reach Juventus’ Level With A Few Reinforcements”

Legendary Inter goalkeeper Ivano Bordon has shared his hopes to see current Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic pick up some silverware shortly.

Handanovic has been ever reliable for Inter since his arrival at the club in the Summer of 2013 from fellow Serie A side Udinese but has yet to pick up any sort of silverware.

The 35-year-old shot-stopper was named club captain little over a year ago after Mauro Icardi was stripped of the captaincy and has kept 114 clean sheets in 324 appearances for the club.

“I hope he is able to win some trophies soon. I think he is a lot like me. He is calm, he does not get upset,” 1982 World Cup winner Bordon told Turin newspaper Tuttosport.

He also discussed what kind of player he thinks Inter should be looking to bring in next season to act as his deputy.

“I am old school and I think the goalkeeper must be old school too. The goalkeeper is a particular role, the mental aspect of it is very important.”

He also spoke on the current gap between current Italian reigning champions Juventus and Inter and what he thinks Inter need to close the gap with their arch rivals.

“I think there is only a little gap between the sides and that with a few reinforcements Inter could reach the level of Juventus.”

Bordon started his professional career with Inter in 1970 and would spend 13 years with the club before leaving to join Sampdoria.

Bordon made 381 appearances across all competitions during his time with Inter which also he won four trophies in. Between 1999 and 2001 he also served as Inter’s goalkeeping coach.

Italian PFA President Tommasi: “Some Presidents Of Italian Clubs Are Like The Musicians On The Titanic”

In an interview with Rome based newspaper Il Messaggero, Damiano Tommasi, the president of the Italian players associations, has spoken on the difficulties that playing on beyond June 30 would bring in terms of player contracts.

There is complete uncertainly as to when the Serie A season will resume although several figures high up in the Italian game, including Italian football federation president Gabriele Gravina have stated that May 3 could be the date when play resumes.

If this is the case, it is expected that the season will be able to conclude by the end of June but Gravina has admitted in some interviews that the season may have to go on into July, perhaps as far as the middle of the month.

“There are an infinite number of players who, respecting the rules, have signed for other clubs, with a contract in effect from July 1. There are loans that will expire and people who will become free agents,” he started.

“On June 30, the clubs have to present their budgets and that’s a problem for them. A delay will have to be studied, a moratorium will be made, extending the contracts.

“We can’t exaggerate this delay. The beginning of next season can’t be moved too far, since, at least we hope, there will be the Euros.

“Of course. I repeat: the schools are closed, a championship or more than one can also be closed. It would be a big problem, but unfortunately, we don’t choose these things, but the Coronavirus does.

“We are all loaded onto the same boat, in the same uncertainty and with equal fragility.”

He then went on to hit out at some club presidents for the way they have acted in this situation with it understood many presidents have pushed to have training resume right away amongst other things despite the obvious safety concerns attached.

“They are like the Titanic musicians, who continue to play while the ship sinks. If you don’t understand that the situation is serious, I fear that the dates will be disregarded.

“Up north, the phenomenon is constantly growing, as well as in the rest of Europe. It was correct to give a temporary horizon, almost as a form om optimism. That’s OK.

“But there’s still a lot to do. At the beginning, it seemed that the phenomenon concerned the lower area of Lombardy, then moved to Brescia and Bergamo. It’s unpredictable, we don’t know what will happen in the south.”

He concluded the interview by adding: “Logic tells us that we must behave well, rigorously. It’s not about being catastrophic or optimistic, I just try to be realistic. We will start again, but in safety. And where it is needed, we will respect stricter measures.”

FIGC President Gravina: “Starting Again On May 3 Is Just An Idea, We Want To Complete The Season In The Best Possible Way”

Italian football federation president Gabriele Gravina has confirmed that resuming play on May 3 is simply just an idea for the time being.

Italian football has been on hold for a few weeks and looks to be on hold for the foreseeable future too as a result of the ongoing Coronavirus crisis and Gravina has spoken on numerous occasions lately about when the season could start up again and has always used the date of May 3.

Speaking in an interview with Italian radio station Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli earlier on today, Gravina admitted that May 3 is just one of a number of potential dates currently being thought about as dates when play could potentially resume.

“There is nothing scientific on May 3, it’s a hypothesis. We are working on some options for the calendar, but today every forecast is without foundation.

“We have to work on the hypotheses and the hypothesis of starting again on May 3 would mean the season could finish on June 30 but it is also conceivable we could start again on May 10 and 17.”

He then went on to stress that people must be realistic given the currently unprecedented situation.

“We must be realistic as there is a general crisis, and football is not the top priority. Optimistically speaking we can say that there is still a possibility of saving the season but we must be sure not to damage it.

“We want to complete this season in the best possible way, aware that we are living in a state of emergency.”

A number of potential solutions to conclude the season have been suggested in recent weeks including playoffs at both ends of the table and Gravina went on to speak about this idea.

“Playoffs are an idea but there are no established terms. This is a marginal idea compared to the conclusion of the league. If you can play with playoffs it means that some league games can be played.

“We are working and there are different ideas. The league table could be frozen or titles may not be assigned to try and safeguard the competition. Today we must be responsible.”
