Inter Defender de Vrij: “We’ll Think About Playing Again When The Time Is Right”

Inter defender Stefan de Vrij has admitted that Inter manager Antonio Conte and the Inter coaching staff are keeping a close eye on him and his teammates during the current period.

All of Italy is currently in lock down in a bid to try and contain and prevent the spread of Coronavirus and as a result Inter are not playing matches nor are they able to be at the club’s Angelo Moratti Sports Centre training ground.

The players, as per various reports, have all been given individual plans to follow both in terms of fitness plans as well as nutritional plans.

Many players have posted photos and videos of themselves working from home on things like exercise bikes and the nutritional plan is being helped by the fact all the players are getting pre-prepared meals delivered to them by the club nutirionist.

“The coach always tries to stay close to us even in this period, he is in contact us all even if not physically but through messages,” he remarked in an interview with Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV earlier on today.

“His staff also try to stay in touch with us. There is more activity on group chat. We are a close group and I think we will return as we were before.”

He then spoke on Coronavirus and how the club have been looking after the players.

“It is always a fight that we try to win, as we do in football we can be united as a team in this too. Inter’s professionalism is high, they are delivering food to us and bikes.

“In my opinion it is not the time to talk about football though, we have always played one game at a time and now we we are playing another one that we are trying to win. We will think about playing again when the time is right.”

Italian PFA President Tommasi: “Making Players Train Now Is Dangerous”

In an interview with Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, Damiano Tommasi, the president of the Italian players association, has discussed the possibility of the members having to take pay cuts.

Multiple reports in the media in the past few days and weeks have suggested that clubs could ask players to take wage cuts to help out amidst the financial crisis that has been caused as a result of the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic.

To start the interview, Tommasi was asked if he thinks Italian football federation president Gabriele Gravina’s idea of resuming play on May 3 is a realistic one: “”I think what the British did in saying games will not be played until a certain date is a better way.”

He was then asked about whether he thinks players should be training at this time with a number of Serie A clubs reportedly pushing to be allowed to resume training.

“I do not know what people who thinks players should be training are thinking. I do not want to be controversial but training two months before the possible resumption of the season makes no sense to me and it is also dangerous.”

Next he went on to discuss the potential of members having their wages cut on a temporary basis to ease the financial blow clubs will suffer.

“The players are the first to be interested in the sustainability of the football system. We are aware that this is a topic to be addressed but not now.

“Firstly the damage needs to be quantified and only once this is done will we know if the season will end or not. The issue of cutting wages should be dealt with in due course. A possible 20-30% cut? We are not able to force the members to accept it.”

Lega Serie A Set To Seek Financial Assistance From Italian Government

Lega Serie A are set to ask the Italian government to assist financially to help try and cushion the financial blow that the league could incur as a result of the global Coronavirus pandemic according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

Due to the pandemic, Italian football, like football across the continent, is on hold and it is as yet unclear when things will actually resume.

Lega Serie A employed financial experts Deloitte to assess the potential damage that could be caused which has a huge range.

Should the league resume and finish, there will be a loss of ‘only’ €170 million but in comparison to what the loss would be if the league does not finish, it is fairly small.

As per the report from the Milan based newspaper, Deloitte have estimated that in the event the league does not finish, Serie A will lose an enormous sum of €720 million.

Inter Hope To Start Training Again At Start Of April

Inter hope to be able to start training again from the beginning of April according to a report in today’s print edition of La Stampa.

Inter are one of a number of clubs hoping for this to happen but there are some Serie A clubs out there that are pushing to be allowed to resume training from this coming Monday.

As per health officials advice, team training will not be able to take place until at least April 13 but training could resume on an individual basis before that.

Any new Italian government measures, which will likely be announced before or on April 3, when the current measures expire, are likely to have an impact on when clubs can get back to training.

As things stand it currently remains unclear when the football season will resume although the Italian football federation president Gabriele Gravina has stated he is hopeful of play resuming at the beginning of May.

Italian Players Association Willing To Help Out Amid Football’s Coronavirus Induced Financial Crisis

Italian clubs are continuing to consider the possibly of cutting players wages in a bid to mitigate the financial impact of the current situation according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

Clubs across the globe have been and will continue to be hit hard financially in the absence of football and as per the Milan based newspaper, Serie A clubs have the belief that they can request their players to take temporary wage cuts to help out.

Clubs are working on the basis that they pay their players to perform week in week out but with no football to be played for the foreseeable future, players are not doing what they are employed to do, albeit through no fault of their own.

The report goes on to explain that there are still no real negotiations happening with the Italian players association regarding the possibility of wage cuts but it is understood that they are willing to do their part but need to know how much their members will have to contribute.

Former Fiorentina Director Corvino: “Castrovilli Would Be Ideal For Inter”

Former Fiorentina director Panteleo Corvino has shared his belief that Gaetano Castrovilli would be an ideal addition for Inter.

Inter have been strongly linked with the Italian national team midfielder for a few months now as they look to bolster their midfield department.

Castrovilli has been one of the revelations of the Serie A this term and is also understood to have interest in his services from Roma.

Speaking in an interview with Turin based newspaper Tuttosport, Corvino, who was the one who brought Castrovilli to La Viola, he addressed reports suggesting he could be available for €40 million.

“€40 million for Castrovilli? Yes, but only for one leg! Inter want him? In a three-man midfield, he would be ideal for Conte.”

He then went on to share his view on the comparison that some people have made between him and Barcelona and Chile star Arturo Vidal.

“They are different players. Vidal plays more angrily whilst Castrovilli is more elegant. We are taking about two great players.”
This season, 23-year-old Castrovilli, who is under contract with the Florence club until 2024, has made 26 appearances across all competitions to date in which he has scored two goals and provided three assists.
