Lega Serie A are set to ask the Italian government to assist financially to help try and cushion the financial blow that the league could incur as a result of the global Coronavirus pandemic according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.
Due to the pandemic, Italian football, like football across the continent, is on hold and it is as yet unclear when things will actually resume.
Lega Serie A employed financial experts Deloitte to assess the potential damage that could be caused which has a huge range.
Should the league resume and finish, there will be a loss of ‘only’ €170 million but in comparison to what the loss would be if the league does not finish, it is fairly small.
As per the report from the Milan based newspaper, Deloitte have estimated that in the event the league does not finish, Serie A will lose an enormous sum of €720 million.
