Rafa Benitez Assistant At Inter Amedeo Carboni: “Moratti Promised To Sign Javier Mascherano & Alexis Sanchez But Changed His Mind”

Former Roma and Valencia left back and assistant to Rafa Benitez at Inter, Amedeo Carboni, discussed former Inter coach Hector Cuper as well as Benitez time at the club, in an interview with media outlet 90min yesterday.

“I think it was an accident. He is a coach who didn’t like to change. For him the team was always the same for 9 out of the 11. Maybe he wasn’t able to convey the necessary peace of mind. He was very introverted, he didn’t laugh much. But he was an exquisite person.

“The last year he was in Valencia, Inter scouts came to see us. One week I was called by Mario Corso who was an Inter scout. He asked me how to get to the pitch and, so, I brought him. All week I took him to training, the last day I made a joke.”

Carboni discussed the joke and how Carboni wanted him to join Inter.

“I told him we were going to have coffee and instead I took him to Cuper’s office. Then the coach wanted me at Inter, I said no, and they signed Gresko.

“After May 5th, he told me it was my fault. When he asked me to follow him, I told him, coach, you can’t go to Inter with a 36-year-old man, they’ll kick you out.”

The 55-year-old Italian then spoke about how he helped Rafa Benitez sign for Inter after Jose Mourinho’s departure in 2010.

“I took him to Inter. I was a friend of Marco Branca’s, so much so that I accompanied him to Milan. The problem there is that he arrived after the Treble. Then there was the South African World Cup, there were 15 of us on tour plus the Primavera. A lot of them were late. We, basically, didn’t have any preparation.”

Finally, Carboni spoke about the difficulties Benitez had with president Massimo Moratti and his downfall with the Nerazzurri.

“We agreed with the president to buy three players, Mascherano, Alexis Sanchez and another midfielder. At first Moratti agreed, then, I don’t know why, he changed his mind.

“There were discussions and after Benitez did that interview which he did to get himself kicked out, in my opinion. He accused the president who had promised him players. In January, then, Moratti bought a lot of players. We laughed with Benitez, they wanted to fire us.”

Carboni worked with Benitez as a consultant at Inter after the summer of 2010, straight after Inter’s Treble winning campaign. The player could have joined Inter in his career and potentially been the starting left back over Vratislav Gresko, the man who is often the scapegoat of Inter fans for the 5th May 2002 loss to Lazio. The moment has often been considered one of the most heart-breaking moments in Inter’s history, and Brazilian star Ronaldo sobbed on the bench after being substituted off by Cuper.

Ex-Inter Striker Ivan Zamorano: “Barcelona Can’t Afford Lautaro Martinez, Edinson Cavani Could Replace Man Utd’s Alexis Sanchez”

Former Inter striker Ivan Zamorano discussed Nerazzurri forward Lautaro Martinez and some potential replacements the Milanese club could sign in an interview with Mexican broadcaster MisionTUDN yesterday afternoon, local time.

“I really hope Lautaro stays at Inter. Lautaro is a young guy, 22 years old, Cavani is 11 years older and has enormous experience in different clubs. But Cavani’s arrival has nothing to do with the sale of Lautaro.”

The 53-year-old Chilean then highlighted how the Blaugrana cannot afford to pay Lautaro’s €111 million release clause and how the 22-year-old is the future of the Nerazzurri.

“Barcelona have economic problems that don’t allow them to sign Lautaro, in my opinion he’ll stay, I have no doubt. Cavani can be an alternative to the starters.

“There are many rumours, Sanchez will return to Manchester United and Cavani can occupy that space in the forward department. But I guarantee that Lautaro is the future of Inter.”

Finally, Zamorano discussed how the Blaugrana must offer Inter multiple players in the Lautaro deal due to the fact that they cannot afford his release clause.

“Barcelona must put €100 million on the table, which is the least that Inter has asked for Lautaro. Conte likes Vidal very much, for sure, but first they have to offer €100 million.”

The Blaugrana are incredibly keen to sign the 22-year-old Argentine striker, who is contracted to the Milanese club until 2023. Lautaro has formed a formidable partnership with Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku and has been one of coach Antonio Conte’s stars this season in the squad. Lautaro has made 31 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2437 minutes. In that time, he has scored 16 goals and provided four assists.

Inter midfielder Borja Valero showed himself hard at work in training in a post on his Twitter page yesterday.

The 35-year-old Spaniard, whose contract expires with the Nerazzurri at the end of this season, initially struggled to earn playing time under coach Antonio Conte this season but showed his professionalism when he was asked to fill in due to the club’s midfield injury crisis earlier this season. He has made 15 appearances this season.

Valero posted the photo alongside the caption: “Training session.”

Photo – Inter Defender Diego Godin: “Great Desire To Return To Playing”

Inter defender Diego Godin showed the Nerazzurri squad hard at work in training in a post on his Twitter page yesterday.

The 34-year-old Uruguayan defender, who is contracted to the club until 2022, has struggled to adapt to coach Antonio Conte’s tactical system this season. The former Atletico Madrid man is not experienced in a three-man defence and was often benched in favour of 20-year-old Alessandro Bastoni.

Godin posted the photos on Twitter alongside the caption: “Another week of good work! A great desire to come back soon to play!”

Udinese President Pozzo On Inter Linked Juan Musso: “He’s Very Similar To Handanovic, Another Year With Us Good For His Development”

Udinese president Giuseppe Pozzo discussed the future of Inter linked goalkeeper Juan Musso in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Mestre based newspaper Il Gazzettino.

“We fully share the opinion that another year here would be good for his growth. He’s still young, he has plenty of room for improvement. He has an excellent physical structure and I think he’s very similar to Handanovic.”

Pozzo moved onto discussing the possible restart of Serie A, which could start in the second or third week of June.

“I’m not the one who asked not to start again on 13 June, but later. The athletic trainers are asking for it. I didn’t invent anything, I simply gave voice to a physiological need of the players and those who have to prepare them.”

Finally, Pozzo spoke about another player linked with Inter in the past, Rodrigo De Paul. The Nerazzurri considered signing him in the January transfer window before they secured the signature of Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen.

“He’s matured and now he’s a very reliable player. It’s useless to hide the fact that he’s a player who will one day sign for a top club.”

Inter have been looking for a long-term replacement for captain Samir Handanovic. The Slovenian shot stopper will start for the Nerazzurri next season as well, but may be phased out over the coming seasons as he looks to retire. The Milanese club have been searching hard for the perfect replacement and believe Musso may be that player. The 26-year-old Argentine goalkeeper has kept nine clean sheets and conceded 38 goals in 27 appearances so far this season.

Italian Media Reports Torino Very Interested In Signing Inter Owned Striker Andrea Pinamonti

Torino are seriously interested in signing Genoa striker Andrea Pinamonti, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

The report details how the 21-year-old Italian is a product of Inter’s youth system and was sent out to Genoa last summer on a loan deal which had a buy obligation attached, should certain conditions be met, which they were. As per the agreement with Genoa, however, Inter will purchase the player back in the summer.

Torino have been following Pinamonti for some time now, the report continues, and the club’s sporting director Davide Vagnati previously wanted the player whilst he was working with SPAL. Pinamonti would be able to play as a replacement or alongside talismanic forward Andrea Belotti, being a strong option for the Granata.

Pinamonti has made 22 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1585 minutes. In that time, he has scored four goals and provided three assists.

Inter Linked Mario Götze To Leave BVB On A Free Transfer Amid Interest From AC Milan, Lazio & Roma

Inter linked Borussia Dortmund forward Mario Gotze will be a free agent in the summer, and has already been offered to AC Milan, Lazio and Roma according to a report from Italian media outlet TuttoMercatoWeb.com.

The report details how the 27-year-old German forward will not be signing a new contract with the German club, where he has played for the majority of his career.

The club’s sporting director, Michael Zorc, confirmed that the 2014 World Cup winner would be departing in the summer, saying: “Mario is a really good guy and we made the decision together after a meeting. Our working relationship with him will end in the summer.”

The Nerazzurri have been linked with many players who will be a free agent in the summer, the report continues, with other examples being players like PSG’s Edinson Cavani or Napoli’s Dries Mertens.

Many clubs are likely to look to sign free agents in the summer, in part due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, which has heavily affected the transfer market.
