Zanetti: “Be among the contenders”

SHANGHAI – In an interview with Chinese television channel Sina TV, Inter’s vice president Javier Zanetti ran over the most memorable moments in his playing career before touching upon the start Roberto Mancini’s men have made to 2015/16, which currently has the squad topping Serie A.

The Argentine legend began by saying: "I had a lengthy career because I love football and everything I did was driven by great enthusiasm and top professionalism. This is the most important thing for a footballer."

"I was captain for a very long time and it was always an honour to pull on that armband. Now I’m trying to convey everything I experienced as a player to the guys in the first team. At times in my career I was chased by some big clubs, but I always said that I wanted to stay at Inter and make history with this club."

He then moved onto his success in Europe’s premier club competition: "Winning the Champions League was a dream come true. I will never forget that night in Madrid, it will remain in the hearts of all our fans and it has a special place in Inter’s history."

He then wrapped things up with a few words on this year’s campaign. "We are aware that we still have an awful lot to do and many matches to play. Our aim is to get back to being among the title contenders and that is what we are doing. I hope we’ll have some great successes at the end of this season."
