Beppe Bergomi: “Inter Must Do Everything Possible To Keep Lautaro Martinez”

Inter legend Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Bergomi has sang the praises of Inter striker Lautaro Martinez and discussed the continued media speculation regarding the youngster’s future.
“He is an excellent player and he is growing, we will see what he will become,” he began an interview with Milan based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, which appeared in today’s print edition.

He was then asked if he thinks Inter can do without the 22-year-old or if they must do everything that they possible can to keep a hold of him amid continued links to Barcelona.

“This is a difficult question. He is a player that is growing and he is exploding, he is coming out of his shell, unlike Antoine Griezmann, who has been talked about as a potential replacement.

“Lautaro still has his best years ahead of him and whilst Griezmann is still good, he is going down. This is why I say that Inter must do everything possible to keep him.”

Next he was asked whether he thinks Inter have what it takes to keep a hold of the former Racing Club player, who is under contract until 2023.

“He has a release clause and there is a lot of money at stake. If Inter receieve it all then they can think of going and getting someone else.”

Bergomi was then asked who he would opt to replace Lautaro with if he does indeed leave the club in the next few months.

“I would always keep Lautaro but if I had to replace him, I would go after RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner. He has impressed speed. If Inter get the €111 million for Lautaro, they must go after someone who is quick. Modern football is based on physicality and speed and Werner is fast.”

Next Bergomi was asked about the prospect of Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud joining the club to serve as a back-up option to Romelu Lukaku.

“At the age he is, he can adapt well to the role. He must understand, if he has not already done so, that it is an important task, because Inter, with two top strikers, must have two other top level ones behind them. Being able to count on someone like Giroud would be massive. He can help out a lot.”

In conclusion, Bergomi was asked if he thinks Inter teen sensation Sebastiano Esposito should be loaned out next season to help aid his development: “For me, you have to play, to have experience to get back ready.”

Inter & AC Milan Open To Playing Remaining Games Away From San Siro If Season Resumes

Inter and AC Milan have given the green light to play away from their San Siro home if the season resumes without games being played in the north of Italy according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

The football season is currently on hold due to the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic and it remains to be seen whether or not it will be possible for it to resume.

There has been no shortage of suggestions when it comes to how the season could safely resume with one of the suggestions being not playing any games at all in the north of the country, which has been the worst impacted by the virus.

Inter and AC Milan, alongside other clubs such as Atalanta and Brescia, would have to play the remainder of their games away from home and the report states that Inter and AC Milan are willing to do this due to their belief that health and safety should come first.

Inter & AC Milan’s Owners Intend To Proceed With New Stadium Project Despite Current Crisis

Despite the current Coronavirus crisis, Inter and AC Milan’s stadium project will not be halted and will still go ahead according to a report in today’s print edition of Corriere della Sera.

Officials from Inter, AC Milan and the Milan city council met again yesterday via video call to hold more talks over the project and during the talks the clubs confirmed their two ownership group’s intention to still invest around €1 billion into the project, that will lead to the employment of some 5000 people.

The report from the Milan based newspaper goes on to state that the same distance between the parties remains when it comes to all of the extras being built in addition to the new state-of-the-art stadium itself.

Inter and AC Milan have long wanted to build shops, hotels, restaurants and offices in the area to help them re-coup their investment and breath a new lease of life into the area but the amount they want to build is seemingly too much in the eyes of the Milan city council.

Inter Could Spend Around €15m To Bring In Mertens, Giroud & Vertonghen

In today’s print edition, Tuttosport have examined the finances that could be involved in Inter’s moves for Napoli’s Dries Mertens, Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud and Tottenham Hotspur’s Jan Vertonghen.

All three players contracts with their current employers are due to expire in the coming months thus meaning Inter could acquire all three of them on a free transfer.

Between signing bonuses and commission fees to agents and perhaps intermediaries, Inter could spend around €15 million, which is far less than the combined €50 million Inter may have had to fork out on transfer fees if all players were under contract.

Mertens has emerged as a target to bolster Inter’s attacking department, just like 2018 World Cup winner Giroud has whilst Vertonghen has seemingly been identified by Inter as the ideal replacement for centre back Diego Godin, who looks set to depart the club in the coming months after just a season with the club.

Stefano Sensi Could Be Important For Inter If Serie A Season Resumes

Stefano Sensi could be an important player for Inter if the 2019/20 season is to resume according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

The 24-year-old joined the club this past Summer on a season long loan with option to buy from fellow Serie A side Sassuolo and got life at the Nerazzurri off to a fantastic start.

However, since sustaining an injury against Juventus in the first Derby D’Italia of the season at the start of October, he has only appeared sporadically due to a number of injury issues.

He has now recovered from his injury problems and if the season does resume he could be important for Inter manager Antonio Conte who could then alternate between him and January transfer window recruit Christian Eriksen.

The report from the Milan based newspaper goes on to state that Alexis Sanchez could also be a big player for Inter if the season starts back-up. The on-loan Manchester United forward’s experience in big games could help and he could come in for either of Lautaro Martinez or Romelu Lukaku when required.

Barcelona Manager Setien: “PSG’s Neymar Or Inter’s Lautaro? Both Would Be Fine”

Barcelona manager Quique Setien has expressed his admiration for both Paris Saint Germain’s Neymar and Inter’s Lautaro Martinez, who continue to be linked with potential Summer transfers to the Blaugrana club.

Barcelona are widely reported to be looking to bring Neymar back to the club, three years on from letting him leave for the French powerhouses and reports in the media have suggested they may need to cough up close to €200 million in order to do so.

As for Lautaro, it is said that Barcelona see him as the heir to Luis Suarez. The Argentine has a €111 million release clause in his current contract with the club but Barcelona are understood to want to do a player(s) plus cash deal for him instead.

“How can I not love all the great players? Neymar is undoubtedly one of them, but now, as things stand, we must consider whether it will be possible or not to sign him,” Setien, who took charge of the Blaugrana at the beginning of this year, remarked in an interview with Spanish radio station Cadena Ser show ‘El larguero’ this morning.

Everything we do will depend on the situation in which the other clubs are in after what is happening. However, both would be fine.”
