Ex-Nerazzurri Attacker Alvaro Recoba: “I Was Stupid To Leave Inter”

Former Inter striker Alvaro Recoba discussed the ongoing Coronavirus emergency and his memories with the Nerazzurri in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset on Instagram today.

“I’m happy with what I did, I don’t regret anything. Perhaps my limits were those, but what is past is past. Every moment of my life I lived it my way, with my intensity, believing it was the best thing. Maybe I regret a thing or two. I was a fool because I decided to leave Inter when I shouldn’t have, but I was still very happy for the Treble.”

The 44-year-old Uruguayan then revealed when he could have left the team before the Treble winning campaign.

“I could have left a few years earlier but I was thinking of leaving on a good note, but that year I had reached a point with Roberto Mancini where we weren’t in it anymore and I didn’t even want to fight too much, it wasn’t my way and I decided to leave. But I could have been part of that team.”

He then touched on the passport scandal that he was involved in at the beginning of the 2000s.

“I don’t regret that, the facts went as they went. I declared what I knew, always telling the truth. I always thought I was doing things right but it wasn’t so, then you can’t regret every two minutes of what you do.”

Recoba spoke about his relationship with former Inter president Massimo Moratti.

“I have discussed this relationship many times, he was a good person and he also saw a good person in me. Sometimes I call him, if he knows I’m in Milan he calls me and we meet. The last time we saw each other was in November, my wife and I were in Milan, but I haven’t heard from him in these months.”

He spoke about the first conversation they had after the squad won the Champions League final in Madrid in 2010.

“I was in Greece, as soon as the game was over, I sent him a message congratulating him on everything he had given the team. He replied after 20 minutes and thanked me.”

Recoba spoke highly of his former teammate Ronaldo.

“He was definitely the best team-mate I’ve ever had. The only thing I regretted was seeing him go to AC Milan, but everyone does what they want. He went to Real Madrid, to Barcelona, it wouldn’t be easy to see that at home. But he was the best of his time, besides the ones I played with.”

The 44-year-old discussed the best players in history.

“The best player I’ve ever seen is Messi, for me. I also saw Diego Armando Maradona but I was a kid, then Ronaldinho, CR7, but Messi is the best for me. I never heard from Adriano again, I remember his legs were the biggest I’ve ever seen. He had a power in kicking the ball that I saw in few people.”

He touched on the difficulties that Adriano faced in his career.

“When his father died, he suffered a lot. It must be really hard, he was a very sensitive boy, a good giant. I hope he’s happy now.”

He briefly highlighted the qualities of Javier Zanetti.

“A great professional, who could play even now without problems.”

Recoba touched on the goal he scored in Inter’s famous comeback against Sampdoria.

“I was angry that day. I went in and immediately afterwards we scored the second goal. Then I said: ‘No, it’s not possible’. Then we started to create chances, we were denied two penalties, then Oba Martins crossed, Christian Vieri scored. It was a good time, crazy, at the end there were eight of us in the opponent’s area, if we hadn’t scored, we could have risked a counterattack.”

He spoke about his preference to shoot from outside the box.

“It’s everyone’s choice, I really liked to shoot but it’s a question of each player’s style. At the time it was played with the balls of the individual teams that had different characteristics. Bologna’s balls moved a thousand miles per hour, Roma’s balls stopped on wet ground.”

The former Inter striker spoke about the current Nerazzurri squad.

“They had to do everything perfect to go all the way, because they don’t have such a big, quality squad like Juve. When they had a few problems, they lagged behind, there is Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez but there are no others like them.”

Finally, Recoba spoke about his favourite players at the minute in Italy.

“I really liked Matteo Politano, but now he’s gone. I liked his kind of game, I appreciate the players who maybe miss ten balls but they still get the ball. Then there’s Matias Vecino, who’s making a great path. I was with him and Diego Godin in November. For goalkeepers, I like Samir Handanovic as well as Wojciech Szczesny.”

Inter Midfielder Borja Valero: “Inter & AC Milan Have A Healthy Rivalry”

Inter midfielder Borja Valero spoke about the ongoing Coronavirus emergency and its impact on the Italian people in an interview with Spanish TV host Christian Galvez today. His words were noted by Italian media outlet FcInterNews.

“I am 100% sure that we are going to change our lifestyle for the future. And also, the way we cheer for our team. The Italian sports newspapers are now talking about Covid-19, but also about the future football market, even if there is little meat there.”

He then spoke about the situations in Spain and Italy.

“We’re in the biggest hotbed in Italy. And Spain is the second biggest hotbed in Europe, but fortunately all my loved ones are doing well.”

Finally, Valero discussed the rivalry between Inter and AC Milan.

“Inter and Milan are great rivals, even if they call each other cousins. There’s healthy competition.”

The 35-year-old Spaniard, whose contract expires with the Nerazzurri at the end of the season, is expected to leave in the summer, three years after his arrival. The player has made 15 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 844 minutes. In that time, he has scored two goals and slowly worked his way into coach Antonio Conte’s squad.

Valero was praised by Conte for his professionalism despite the limited playing time at the start of the season. He was key for the Lecce born coach when the squad’s midfield options were limited due to multiple injuries.

Javier Zanetti: “Lautaro Martinez’ Future Is With Inter, Not Spoken About Mauro Icardi Returning”

Inter vice president Javier Zanetti discussed the current Inter squad, the Treble winning side and the upcoming summer transfer window in an interview with International media outlet ESPN today.

First, he discussed his emotions after winning the 2010 Champions League final in Madrid.

“It was the realization of a dream. It was an enormous honour for me to be captain of that team. Inter hadn’t won that Cup for forty-five years, so it was very important for me and for the whole team. We knew it meant crowning an impressive year, with many difficulties but made by great men, of a great team that had made an incredible course. When we went in there, we knew we could do it. Julio Cesar stopped the ball with his hands, looked at Walter Samuel and said: ‘Walter, we are champions’. For me it was a wonderful moment, the best moment of my life. With three minutes to go, I started crying.”

The Nerazzurri legend then discussed the Milanese club’s victory over Barcelona in the semi-finals.

“Yes, we won against the best team because they were the best team without a shadow of a doubt. We won 3-1 at the San Siro. Against Barcelona they were two incredible games, then at the Camp Nou we were this close to the final, we wanted to win it. It wasn’t easy to play, it wouldn’t have been easy 11 v 11, with a man less it was even worse, we had to change the whole strategy of the game. It was an endless game but it was the last step to the dream.”

Zanetti spoke about how it felt to play against Barcelona legend Lionel Messi.

“For me they were two difficult games, Samuel and I had the task of marking Messi. We played with the greatest. Of course, it was a unique opportunity, we played against the big boys. Competition with Messi? You get used to this kind of thing over time, it’s football. We had the finals on the line, we had to write history.”

He described the coach of that team, Jose Mourinho.

“Mourinho is special, for all that he represents. He is a great coach and an exceptional person, he has always dedicated his life to his profession. He conveys a lot of passion, he has a great personality. A motivator, a person who brings out the best in everyone. He is a coach who prepares the games in a unique way.”

The Argentine touched on the UEFA Cup final in 1998.

“The UEFA Cup was my first trophy with Inter. It was a very special evening, in a final with another Italian team, with Ronie… Personally it was a unique evening, it was my first trophy and unforgettable, also because I scored the second in Paris.”

Zanetti discussed today’s Inter squad and the coach Antonio Conte.

“The coach is working really well and you can see the results. Thanks to him the players have improved and now Inter can count on a squad of great value also economically. A mix of promising youngsters and experienced players. It’s a long way to go but I see a good future ahead of us.”

He didn’t know the future of Inter owned striker Mauro Icardi, who is currently on loan at Paris Saint Germain.

“I don’t know, we haven’t talked about the market yet. With the problem we’re experiencing worldwide the most important thing is health. Then we’ll have time to think about all these things.”

Zanetti then moved onto discussing Inter star Lautaro Martinez, who is being followed by Spanish side Barcelona.

“Lautaro has improved a lot in the last year, also thanks to Conte’s work. When we scouted him with Milito and he played in Argentina, I remember how much we believed in him from the beginning. I see him happy at Inter, he identifies with the club. We believed in him. The way I see him, he’s happy here, he identifies with Inter. The rumors about Barcelona? I see his future here.”

The former Argentina defender then discussed the current Argentina squad.

“I see a squad with a lot of grit, it makes me happy. Copa America will be a great opportunity, there will be more time. Argentina is always in my heart.”

Finally, Zanetti spoke about his counterpart at AC Milan, Paolo Maldini.

“Meanwhile I have great respect for Paolo, I’m an admirer of his career. A Milan legend, his father was one, then he, now his son is in the squad. All the times I met him I always did it with respect and admiration. He represents Milan, like I represent Inter. For me Inter is my family, it’s part of my family, it has values in which I have always reflected myself and I have always defended the Inter jersey as my life. I’m happy with the relationship that has been created with Inter and their fans.”

Inter Will Loan Brazao Out Again Next Season With Clubs From Italy & Spain Interested

Gabriel Brazao will be loaned out again for the duration of next season according to a report from Italian news outlet FCInterNews.it.

The young goalkeeper is currently out on loan at Spanish second division side Albacete, who he has made just four appearances for across all competitions to date, in which he has kept a single clean sheet.

It has been widely reported that Inter are going to shake up their goalkeeping department for next season but Brazao will not be part of the club’s goalkeeping department next term.

As things stand, the goalkeeping department will consist of Samir Handanovic as number one, Ionut Andrei Radu as back up and one of Tomasso Berni and Daniele Padelli as third choice.

Inter want Brazilian youth national team goalkeeper Brazao to continue his development by getting regular game time and as per the report the Nerazzurri have already had enquiries from Italian, Spanish and other clubs.

PSG Waiting To See If Inter Owned Icardi Wishes To Join Them Permanently

Inter have made their mind up about several of the players that they have on loan at the club according to a report from La Repubblica.

Inter are not interested in keeping Alexis Sanchez and he is therefore set to return to Manchester United but it is a different story for Stefano Sensi.

The Nerazzurri would like to keep him and could activate the €25 million option they have to buy him or they may however opt to negotiate a new loan deal with Sassuolo for Sensi, who has spent large spells of the season out on the sidelines due to injury.

Inter also have several players out on loan with loan clubs having options to buy and two players seem set to be bought outright.

Joao Mario and Ivan Perisic are likely to be purchased by Lokomotiv Moscow and Bayern Munich respectively but it remains unclear what will happen with Radja Nainggolan and Mauro Icardi, who are on loan at Cagliari and Paris Saint Germain.

As per the report, if Cagliari do not sign Nainggolan, he could be sold to Fiorentina whilst it also adds that PSG are waiting to see what Mauro Icardi wishes to do.

Rivaldo On Inter Linked Messi: “I Don’t Think Messi Would Leave Barcelona To Join Any Other European Club”

Former Barcelona player Rivaldo has shared his belief that current Barcelona player Lionel Messi will not leave the club anytime soon amid links to other clubs in the media.

In the past few days Inter and Newell’s Old Boys have both been linked with the 32-year-old multi-time world player of the year.

The Argentine national team player has even taken to social media to distance himself from the rumours and labelled them fake news.

“Inter’s president Massimo Moratti said this week that he could bring Lionel Messi to the club and resume his personal clash with Cristiano Ronaldo in Italy, but as I’ve said before I don’t believe that the Argentinian would leave Barcelona for any other European club,” Rivaldo began a column for betting company BetFair.

“I think he has no reasons to leave Spain, but if that happens one day then he could sign for a club from China or MLS, but only when he stops being so decisive for the Catalan outfit.

“Even if a move to Inter could be financially encouraging for the player, I suspect that wouldn’t be enough to convince him and I think this is more like propaganda from Inter’s president than a real possibility in the next transfer market.

“Of course, Inter is a big European club that have recruited excellent players in the past and managed to win some important titles, but I can’t imagine Messi changing club while he is still at his best level at Barcelona.”

Rivaldo, who spent five years with Barcelona between 1997 and 2002, then went on to discuss reports that have also linked Messi to Premier League club Manchester City and reiterated his belief that Messi is unlikely to be going anywhere.

“There were also rumours about potential interest from Manchester City, but their manager Pep Guardiola considers Messi to be where he should be and is still playing at a high enough level to help Barcelona very much.

“So, to sum up I consider that these are just rumours and believe Messi should finish his career in Europe after representing just one club. If he does leave, then it will be to China or a north American club where he can enjoy a different environment with not as much pressure and competitiveness.”

This season Messi has made 31 appearances across all competitions to date. In 2640 minutes on the field, he has scored 24 goals and has provided a total of 16 assists for his Blaugrana teammates.
