FIGC President Gravina: “We Must Plan Dates That Can Give Hope To All Who Love Our Sport”

In an interview with Italian radio station show Radio Marte show ‘Gonfia La Rete’, Italian football federation president Gabriele Gravina has spoken on the continued difficulties that the world of Italian football is facing as a result of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic worldwide.

He started the interview, which was broadcast last night, by discussing why it is important for things to be planned at this time.

“We must plan dates that can give hope to all of those who love our sport. Now is the time to plan and make a sort of census of the situation and the crisis in sport and football.

“We are trying to put things together so that even at this negative time we can still have hope and change something in our world and start over.”

He was then asked how much of a chance he thinks there is of the 2019/20 season resuming at any point with media speculation suggesting it is growing increasingly likely it will not resume at all.

“I will only give up with great difficult. So long as there is a chance, I will keep the hope of resuming the leagues. I will make any and every attempt to achieve this.

“I am aware that it is premature to think of a date at this time but we must think positively. We will try to do our best even if it comes at the cost of asking for support from the likes of UEFA and FIFA.”

He was then asked if he thinks it will be difficult for a unanimous decision to be reached between Serie A clubs on what should happen.

“I think we know very well that when it comes to personal interest it is difficult to have everyone together but here there can be no room personal interest. I am appealing for common sense.”

Next he was asked what date would mean it would be impossible for the current season to be concluded.

“Italy has great difficulty to conclude the season because we have 13 matches to play. Talking about dates does not make any sense but we are aware that we need between 45 and 60 days to complete our season. If we are granted the months of July and August to play that would cover that period.

He was then asking what the FederCalcio’s position is when it comes to the possibility of players in Serie A having their wages cut to help cushion the financial blow.

“When you are in a state of emergency you must be consistent with the concept of solidarity and we must all be aware that there must be sacrifices made. We must all work together and make sacrifices and we will ask the players to do that.”

Next Gravina was asked about the possibility of the seasons being finished via playoffs.

“I only proposed this idea as a last resort but it remains an interesting idea and I hope that one day this idea is shared by the clubs so there can be more interest in Serie A.”

In conclusion he spoke on the possibility of the remainder of the season being cancelled entirely and titles not being assisnged.

“It would be an unpleasant scenario. As long as possible I will continue to reject these ideas.”

Keita Balde: “I Wanted To Stay At Inter For A Long Time, Our Paths May Cross Again In The Future”

In an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio, former Inter winger Keita Balde has refused to rule out the possibility of a return to Inter in the future.

The Senegalese national team player spent the 2017/18 season on loan with the club from Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco and Inter did have an option to buy him but opted not to in the end.

“I really miss Italian football, I grew up in Italy with Lazio and then I also spent a year at Inter. I’m happy to be here at Monaco because I like meeting new people, new languages and having new experiences,” Balde explained in the interview which was broadcast on Di Marzio’s official Instagram page on Wednesday night.

“In the future I cannot rule out a return to Italy. The year I left Lazio I was very close to Juventus, a transfer that did not materialise in the end.

“I was sorry that my adventure with Inter lasted only a year, I wanted to stay there for a long time. I cannot rule out that one day our paths may cross again.

“I kept in touch with everyone, it was a fantastic experience with a wonderful group of players. I still have a special relationship with Candreva, D’Ambrosio and Gagliardini.”

He then went on to share his views on the current global Coronavirus pandemic which has caused football all over the world to come to a halt for the foreseeable future.

“Unfortunately it is a delicate situation all over the world. I have some relatives in Spain, others in Senegal. I am in Montecarlo with my partner and my child.

“There is great organisation here, people follow the advice and the rules. I hope the situation can be resolved as soon as possible so we can return to normal life.”

Balde has made a donation of €50,000 to help in the fight against Coronavirus and he explained that he made this gesture off his own accord and was not pushed by anyone to do so.

“I am a person who does what he can for his family, friends and people I love. I made this donation wholeheartedly, you have to do things without waiting for someone to look for you to do it. I try to give my best.”

Inter Legend Ivan Cordoba: “I Rejected Real Madrid Whilst At Inter”

Former Inter defender Ivan Cordoba has admitted that he knocked Real Madrid back twice during his playing career, with one of those times coming whilst he was contracted to the Nerazzurri.

“Real came in for me twice, before and during my time at Inter. The second time was when Cambiasso arrived in Milan, the intermediary of that negotiation called me but I said no because I had made a promise to Moratti,” he revealed in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport’s Instagram channel.

He then went on to discuss what he has made of Inter’s season.

“It has went very well because they worked with determination. Reaching the top is not easy but everyone is convinced about what needs to be achieved. It’ll take time and those who arrive at Inter must know that Inter has to win.”

Cordoba then went on to speak about current Inter manager Antonio Conte.

“Before he arrived I felt like all other Inter fans. It was difficult to accept because it would be like a Nerazzurri icon going to Juve.

“Conte has given the team a confidence that was not there before. He is a very strong manager and he has already shown it. We Inter fans wanted someone like that with a winning mentality.”

He then went on to sign the praises of Hector Cuper, who was one of the managers he worked under during his 12 years on Inter’s books.

“Cuper is the person who laid the foundations for a winning Inter, it was all born from him. He organised things and I have good memories of working under him. I have a lot of respect for him.”

He then went on to share his opinion on former Inter teammate Samuel Eto’o who played a key role in Inter winning the treble in the 2009/10 season.

“You have all seen what he is like as a player so I will say that as a person, he is someone who always tries to give advice to young people. He was a kind of extra coach. On the pitch he always gave you confidence.”

Next he spoke on compatriot Jeison Murillo and his spell with the Nerazzurri.

“I was very sorry it didn’t work out for him because he showed us that he could have stayed at Inter for a long time. Maybe he was not helped by the fact he was there whilst it was one of the worst times for the club.”

He was then asked which manager gave him the most at Inter.

“I had a lot of managers at Inter so I do not want to name just one. All of them did their best for the team. It is indisputable though that the period started with Mancini and ended with Mourinho was fantastic, these two managers they gave me a lot in those six years.”

Next he discussed what it felt like to win the Coppa Italia in 2005.

“I remember we cheered as if it were a Champions League. We had a party in the dressing room afterwards and I remember that Moratti said on TV: ‘It is nice to see all this joy, but it’s a bit exaggerated.’ We took a great weight off our shoulders and from there on we became aware of our strength.”

He concluded by being asked if Adriano and Ronaldo were on the same level.

“They are two different players and for me Ronie, and Adriano knows this too, was the best of all and played at a very high level.”

Inter Linked Vertonghen’s Agent: “We Are Not Ruling Anything Out”

Jan Vertonghen’s agent Tom De Mul has revealed that he and his client are open to everything ahead of the Summer transfer window.

32-year-old Belgian national team defender Vertonghen’s contract with Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur is due to expire at the end of June and the player himself has already admitted that he has to weight things up.

Vertonghen has been with the north London based club since the Summer of 2012 when he joined the club from Dutch powerhouses Ajax and he could well be on the move in the coming months. Inter and Napoli have both been linked with him due to his status as a pending free agent.

Vertonghen has made 311 appearances across all competitions to date for Spurs with 26 of those appearances coming this season in which he has scored two goals and provided a single assist.

“Jan is still very happy to be in London, it is a city that loves. He is still very concentrated and there is a lot of respect for Tottenham and it’s mutual,” De Mul admitted in an interview with Belgian news outlet HLN.

“It is logical that after eight years a connection is created. We have not yet reached an agreement over a renewal, but we are not ruling anything out.

“There is interest from clubs wanting him on a free transfer but staying with Spurs is an equally interesting option for us. The door is open.”

Conte Has Second Best Points Tally After 25 League Games Of Any Inter Manager In Last 40 Years

Only one Inter manager in the past 40 years has done better than current manager Antonio Conte has after 25 league games played according to a report in today’s print edition of Tuttosport.

Conte succeeded Luciano Spalletti and took charge of the Nerazzurri this past Summer and he has led Inter to 54 points from a possible 75.

Only Jose Mourinho has managed to better this as he had 59 points after 25 games in one of his seasons in charge of the club.

The report from the Turin based newspaper has heaped praise on Conte for the fact he has achieved this with a team who finished fourth in each of the previous two seasons unlike Mourinho who had inherited a team who was already winning and one of the best teams on the continent at the time.

Mourinho, who is now in charge at Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, spent two years as Inter’s boss and helped the club achieve something no other Italian club has in winning a treble consisting of the Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League.
