“Mauro is becoming a top player.” This is what Stefano Pioli had to say about his striker after Saturday’s win against Chievo Verona. And in today’s edition La Gazzetta dello Sport puts the Inter captain amongst the top players in the world and they have the statistics to support it. For the third year in a row, Icardi has reached 15 goals in a season, something Ibra and Vieri were the last players to do. And with his goal against Chievo Verona, the Argentinian now is just one goal short of Borussia Dortmunds Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the race for the golden shoe. So far Icardi has scored 69 goals and is getting closer to pass Alvaro Recoba who has 72 and has a better goal average in the championship than players like Alessandro Altobelli and Benito Lorenzi to name a few.
