Marco Materazzi: “All the changes haven’t been good for Inter, keep Pioli, Icardi has learnt to work outside his comfort zone”

Marco Materazzi spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport, answering a number of Inter related questions:

What is Inter’s biggest evil? Organic defects, mental frailty or coaching error?

“Inter have a lot of quality players, who they signed for 30 million to 40 million, not free. Three bad games can not change the judgement of a coach. It’s to do with the transition from Moratti to Thohir and Thohir to Zhang, each change was inevitable. Only the tailor has been the same for the past 7 years but these changes aren’t good for the club.”

Recently you made comments towards Piero Ausilio…

“I did not say those things because I have it in with him. Although I am still waiting for a phone call for clarification: I did quit a year before saying “Come work with me” and “I’m still waiting.”

What would you do if it happened today?

It is unreal to think that it would happen today, I would not go back. Anyway, I would like to be part of a team of people you trust and who only want the best for Inter. Someone like Oriali, if I have to name a name.”

Would you like Conte on the Inter bench?

“I’ve said Pioli deserves reappointment and do not deny it. But if your team reaches a Champions League spot, which among other things would not have problems to have done so in the past, you have to be just happy. Do you think if my time had come Nesta I would be sorry? “.

Is Medel better in defence than midfield?

“Medel has done really well in a three-man defence, but he is still adapting to a role that isn’t his. Against physical forwards, it could be a problem.”

Icardi is a great striker, what do you think of him as a captain?

“Icardi scores 20 goals per season, which seems pretty good to me. He has also learned to work outside his comfort zone and now does things he didn’t used to. The team chooses its leader, aside from who wears the captain’s armband. Icardi seems no less of a leader than anyone else.”
