GdS: “Derby draw could spell the end of Pioli’s reign”

The Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Inter’s 2-2 draw yesterday in the derby could signal the end of Stefano Pioli’s reign in charge of the Nerazzurri.

The paper reports: “The Zapata goal may have finally ‘sentenced’ Pioli. The impression is that there are very few chances of reappointment for the 51-year-old. Two points in the last four games have scaled back ambitions of a team that is in serious danger of finishing outside the European spots. A potential disaster which the blame you could not just place on the bad start had with Frank De Boer at the helm.”

It also reports that Inter will be looking for replacements and have linked the club with Diego Simeone once more, but have said that the friendhip between Javier Zanetti and Simeone could play a big part.

“The diplomatic work of vice-president Javier Zanetti may be important as a good friend and sponsor of Simeone,” The paper says.

“Inter would also be looking at Antonio Conte, Jose Mourinho, Marco Silva and Jorge Sampaoli. However Pioli could fight off the advances of any other coaches by accumulating 18 points in the final six matches and finishing in the Europa League places.”
