Inter manager Luciano Spalletti spoke to Premium Sport after his sides 1-1 draw away to Fiorentina in the Serie A at the Stadio Artemio Franchi after Giovanni Simeone equalized in the dying minutes following Mauro Icardi giving the guests the lead.
Spalletti began by talking about how difficult a week it has been for his Inter saying that: “this week there have been so many things that have happened unfortunately. Nagatomo was struck down with flu, Ranocchia with the injury he picked up against Lazio, who gave everything in order to be available for tonight’s game.”
The former Roma coach then went on to speak about the game against Fiorentina saying: “sometimes the team loses the ball too easily and creates problems for itself. Sometimes we lack a bit of spirit, a bit of strength because it is not characteristic of us. We need to do much better. They managed to find an equaliser when they were pushing forward towards the end of the game, but before that we had our opportunities to make it 2-0 because they were leaving spaces at the back but we failed to make any of them count.”
Spalletti reacted angrily when asked about Inter’s possible transfer market dealings saying that: “if I say that we are lacking players then it is me who has to go into the locker room. Right now we are lacking in numbers but what can I do? Should I go in there and tell these players that they are not good enough? Why don’t you journalists go and tell them? I need to continue doing my job and accept my responsibilities. You can all see that I missing a central defender it’s there for all to see. We’ve said it about seven hundred and fifty times, if you keep asking me the same question then we are going to have a problem. For months you have been asking me if we are missing a central defender, even my mum who is eighty years old knows these things. We no longer have the players, we are finished. Come to Appiano Gentile and count them, we have none left.”
Returning to speak about the game Spalletti concluded by saying: “there were a couple of times where we couldn’t quite get out and if we had then we could’ve had an opportunity to score the second goal. In the end they started to push forward and force the issue more and we found ourselves piled up in the penalty area too many times.”
