Manchester United did not grant Jose Mourinho’s request for the club to sign Ivan Perisic as they were put off by the Croatian’s €65 million price tag, according to the Mirror.
Perisic was consistently linked with a move to the Red Devils for the second season running after impressing at the FIFA World Cup in Russia, scoring in both the semifinals and the final as Croatia finished runners-up, with Mourinho singling him out for praise on television whilst working as a pundit in Russia.
However United did not wish to shell out the money that Inter were asking for as it would have gone against the club’s new transfer policy, which prioritises the acquisition and promotion of younger players over splashing the cash on more mature profiles.
Mourinho felt Perisic would be the perfect player to solve United’s problems in wide areas ahead of the new Premier League season, which begins this weekend, but chairman Ed Woodward’s contrasting philosophy on recruitment means that he will have to find other solutions without the Croatian.
