Reports coming out of England suggest Inter star man and club captain Mauro Icardi is set to sign a new bumper €7 million per season contract renewal with the club.

A report from the Sun suggests Inter tabled the offer that will see Icardi tied down to the club until the end of the 2022/23 club, adding an extra two years on top of his current deal with the club that was signed back in October 2016.

The report from the British tabloid also suggests that Real Madrid had seriously considered reinvesting the sum they received for the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo in the 25-year-old.

“His wife, who is also his agent, fuelled speculation earlier this year when she stated that big clubs were ready to meet his release clause.

“Real Madrid were poised to make an offer for the striker after pocketing £90m from the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo. Fans of the Spanish side were excited at the prospect of welcoming the Argentinian to the Bernabeu, but it seems that the plan [Icardi had] all along was to stay in Italy.”
