Inter legend Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Bergomi remarked on what Inter’s poor start means for their ambitions this season in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.
“We need to understand where we start from. If we talk about Inter as a new anti-Juventus then the expectations become very high. In this aspect, I am on the side of Luciano Spalletti. Luciano is right to say that Inter is in the group of pursuers with Roma, Napoli, Lazio: The games in August I have to take with a pinch of salt, it takes time. We must consider that Inter are also paying for the World Cup final as the Croatians in the squad only have 10 days of training in their legs.”
Bergomi then came to the defence of goalkeeper Samir Handanovic who had a rare off day.
“Handanovic’s mistake gave Toro a way back in to the match, but in his years at the club how many times did he save the result?”
Bergomi concluded by comparing the Inter of today to that of Jose Mourinho’s triplete winning Inter.
“It is no longer the time of Mourinho. That team was different from that of today, it was consolidated with the victories of Mancini, Mourinho had real champions.”
