Samir Handanovic’s performance in the 2-2 draw with Torino has been scrutinised by Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.
The 34-year-old shot stopper’s gaffe when it came to reading a long ball from Torino’s Iago Falque left Toro captain and star man Andrea Belotti with an empty net to slot home in to. Moreover, he was slow to react to Meite’s shot, which albeit deflected, was a very weak effort.
“The performance of the Nerazzurri goalkeeper has brought back the theme of the double role of the Slovenian, often Dr. Jekyll with his decisive actions, but sometimes Mr. Hyde for inaccuracies and moments of absence.
“Handanovic has won plenty points for Inter but the meetings in which he became the protagonist for the wrong reasons are not as rare as perhaps thought. While they are ultimately sporadic they are often decisive episodes. Not wanting to rely on Daniele Padelli, Inter today have no solid alternative to question the ownership of Handanovic in goal, something that can happen on the other side of the Naviglio [at Milan who have Pepe Reina as Gianluigi Donnarumma’s back-up].”
