Former Coach Gigi Cagni: “Inter Will Still End Up Being Juventus’s Main Rival”

Former coach Luigi Cagni believes Inter will still end up being Juventus’s principle rivals for the Scudetto this season but has warned Luciano Spalletti to stop talking about the increased pressure on the Nerazzurri’s shoulders.

Cagni’s coaching career spanned almost 30 years and included spells in Serie A with Piacenza (twice), Verona and Empoli, with his most recent job coming at boyhood club Brescia during the 2016-17 season.

Inter have picked up just one point from their opening two league games this season and are now under pressure to beat Bologna on Saturday.

“I’m surprised that Spalletti has been talking about there being too much pressure on Inter this season,” Cagni told RMC Sport.

“If you build a team like the one Inter have built this season then it’s only normal that expectations increase. Spalletti is an experienced coach and he should know that. He knows the truth but isn’t saying it.

“Luciano can’t blame the media and the excessive pressure surrounding Inter [for their poor start to the season], it’s not a credible excuse.

“Inter are a great team with a great coach: their fitness levels will improve and eventually they will become Juventus’s main rivals this season.”
